I think that's genre specific really. The originals rock / metal crowd is certainly mostly that age bracket. But for the more, ahem, mature player, there's more options in blues, jazz, folk. They also don't seem to give a crap about the age of the members.

Maybe I'll get one and then see if I need the other one then. I've got a big list of things I need to list for sale and if I get reasonable prices then I should be able to get the cab and have quite a bit left over for other toys.

Drive and filters and compressor, octaves etcin front of the amp. Time based in the loop, delays, chorus etc. That’s the usual way.

I think I'm going to take the plunge - off load my BF cabs and get a pair of Energy 2x10 so I can have a vertical 4x10 when needed.

@spongebob A question about the new cab material, if I may? Is the outside a covering like tolex or is the outside the actual material itself? I'm asking because I've seen a buyer review or two where they mention that the cab surface is very easily marked or even dented but only hard finger pressure. From the photos I cannot tell if that is just in the covering (if there is one) or the cab structure itself.

I've just noticed that the EBMM Joe Dart signature - the original with the single ray pickup - uses a 100Kohm pot. Most bass pickups use 250Kohm - what would be the effect of the 100k pot?

If all the ball ends are all the same colour then they could be La Bella. They put little plastic slidey things over the strings to show which is which rather than different coloured ball ends.

I didn't think the pickups would be the same due to the much lauded neodymium pickups in the specials, but I was completely unaware that the lower priced ones often had jazz profile necks. I thought they would all be the chunky ones. I've been collecting parts to make a sort of Joe Dart tribute (his has a sterling neck profile) but I might just see if I can find a lightweight Sub Ray4 and then strip the paint, swap to lightweight tuners, go passive etc.

So have they changed the stock pickup to something more traditionally 'ray like now?

The neck width thing is exactly why I haven't got one. Rays with SLO necks (very jazz like) are rare, and if specc'd on a new one are eye wateringly expensive. I just played with the configurator for a very simple 'Nard Edwards type - natural, blac 'plate, maple board, SLO neck, and the Mono rigid bag they now come with - and it would be £3213.52 including shipping and VAT / import etc. That's the final landed price. Painted options are actually cheaper - presumably because they save the nice looking wood for the natural / stains. I might have to have a look at one of the SUB Rays after this thread! I see LowEndLobster did a review and stuck an upgraded pickup in it too and thought it was very good.

I wish someone would do some good demos of a Central compared to a Ray.

Adjusting a trussrod should never be a warranty issue - it's there to be adjusted by the end user.

I'm looking for a JB body. Ideally it would be: Lightweight alder / basswood / paulownia / cedar - whatever! Either no pickup routs or routed for a MM pickup in the trad MM position. No finish is fine as long as it's ready for an oil type treatment I'd be quite happy if the body was slightly undersized too - say 7/8 size or something as long as a normal Jazz neck would fit on it. Any ideas? I'm planning my very first parts bass assembly and I have no idea what I'm doing really. But the plan is for a passive MM style for a relatively simply first try, and because I can't afford the EBMM Joe Dart signature!

I like them a lot. The 5 - having a 44.45mm nut, would be perfect for me. Probably be nice and light with the chambered body too.

It's either that or they have them built in China or just cease trading.

The prices of overheads they have to pay have got really silly too. I doubt they are making much, if any, increased profit. Energy bills for businesses aren't capped like for consumers.

Lucky man! Still - if you now swap the tuners for Hipshot Ultralites and rip out that unnecessary pickup you'll get that down to not far off 7.5lb! (Yes - I would do that!).

Hand positioning is completely different when at the dusty end compared to when stretched out near the headstock.

I preferred the white ones for feel, and they are a little brighter. Still very nice strings though.
