The fan fret design belongs to Novax. They licence it to others.
Bevelled horns, scratch plate shape etc are not breaches. The companies didn't try to protect them 50 years ago so have lost the chance.
The Gibson -v- PRS litigation confirmed the USA position of "Confusion at the point of sale" - basically if the buyer wouldn't be confused then there is no infringement. So headstock design and logo is the important bit.
I like fan frets. I'd have a Dingwall Super J if I had the money.
I've started using my Vintage Deluxe into the FX return of my amp, bypassing the amp preamp.
It's fantastic. Loads of control and great old sound. If the head sounds like that, then I'll get one.
If you want to run it into the front of an amp, the regular model is fine. If you want a great DI and maybe just use it with a power amp or the FX return in a head, get the deluxe.
Can't go wrong really.
Yup.
I use the Vintage deluxe as my preamp into the Fx loop of my amp. In front of that I have a B7K, Super Symmetry, Duality Fuzz, ThorpyFX Muffroom Cloud and a univibe, and a Bass Synth Wah.
Works great.

no, it's yet another cost and layer of bureaucracy to bands that just play at the pub a couple of times a month, it's a hobby not a profession for most people

And if your PA crushes someone's head when it falls over you'll be sued for several million. Even if you don't have a house to take (they will if you do) your earnings will be subject to a garnishee order for the rest of your natural life.
Or you could have a PL policy for under £100 per year.
I'm looking forward to this.
I had the original but it didn't have as much drive as the rack preamps - so I'm hoping the new one does do the fully saturated thing like my SVP-BSP does.
If I pitch up to the local orchestra and say "bassist" then I'd be handed a Double Bass, not a bass guitar.
If I just said "bass player" - I'd be asked what instrument? There's a good chance I'd be lumped with the bass clarinets.
So it depends on the situation and who I'm talking to.

490,000 BCers eh?
Sorry for the grump, Roland. However, your eagerness to inform everyone about your new purchase struck me as vacuous because it lacked any real information. I'm sure your opinion will be worth reading when you post it.
