1. Bass Direct have a couple in stock. The upper fret access problem is common that type of shape. Same as the T-bird. It's not a shredders bass!
2. No idea. But I love it!
3. I'm very much enjoying my One10 with a Tecamp Puma 300. My amp gas has ended.
4.
Demeter... similarities?
Nah - it looks like the old Engl Ironball guitar amp that has been around for years. I suspect it is a bass version.
5. I've used bass amp modellers for years. Mostly Line 6 stuff, but also Tech 21 I'm using a Helix now and the bass models in it are all very different. There's SVT normal channel, SVT Bright, Mesa 400+, a GK model, B15 model and other stuff too. And the best bit about modern modellers with powerful EQ is that all amp models (even the guitar ones) can be used properly on bass. In parallel signal paths if I fancy it too.
6.
They normally do a "catch up" programme at the end of each series.
A mate of mine used to work on the show. Less than half of the deals offered actually happen. Lots fail in due diligence, sometimes the "offer" is actually given as a straight loan, sometimes the applicant doesn't take it as the publicity from the show is enough to get them what they want without giving up equity. Oh - and the cable needs TWO batteries. 1 at each end. It's a solution looking for a problem. They were on the fretboard forum (the biggest UK guitar forum) in 2014 trying to flog them and there wasn't a single forumite who wanted one. Not even the Russ Andrews power cable buying audiotards.
7. Brilliant funky squelchy noises can be yours for £75 delivered in the UK. Some glue residue on the bottom rubber plate. Vox Big Bad Wah. 8. I love the way this guitar plays, but it has a Floyd and my hatred of them has come back with a vengance (Yes I know - I bought a Charvel and this - they are both going). If Caparison did this with a hardtail it wouldn't be going anywhere Unusually for a shreddy guitar the neck is really quite similar to a Gibson Slim taper neck - a bit thinner than that, but closer to that than a usual super strat. The bridge spacing is like a Les Paul and it has a 24.75 scale. I've only played it in the house. There is a tiny bit of damage at the jack socket where I was hamfisted slotting in my wireless bug. You can see that in the photos. Otherwise it's tip-top. It comes with a very nice padded soft case which I have forgotten to photograph. It's Trans Black Burst, mahogany body with a maple veneer top Dimarzio Tone Zone in the Bridge and an Air Norton S at the neck. 3 way switch I'm not looking at any trades as I want to raise money for a good hard tail guitar. Most likely a Les Paul, but possibly a hard tail Horus if I can find one. £575 ono. Feel free to make offers, I won't be offended. Collection from Northants about half way between Junction 15A and 16 on the M1. I might be able to meet somewhere reasonable too, but of course you can't plug it in at a service station! ta
9.
Dingwall is around £1700 too much for me, sadly.... Specific question - Does anyone know the weight of a Sterling by Musicman SUB Ray5? Ta!
The full fat Ray 5s can be 12lb or can be just over 9lb. They vary a lot so you'd have to try each one. i managed to find a low weight one, and then I got rid of another half-pound by swapping the tuners to Hipshot Ultralites.
10.
You'd be paying a significant amount to devalue your bass by a significant amount.
Or he's paying a significant amount to make it perfect for him so he wants to keep it even more. My own 2005 5 string has twin EMGs and been routed out for them. (Yes I did that to a limited edition one). It is now perfect for what I want. It's not going anywhere. It is correct that modded EBMM instruments get more flack than say Jazzes. I imagine it is partly because of the way the EBMM forum is run with zero tolerance for mods or sometimes even discussions about non-EBMM strings! Quite often the flack includes "Sell it and buy the bass you really want - don't ruin that!" However there aren't any other production line basses with that neck, or with that string spacing. So if body contouring and different electronics are what you need to be changed there is no possibility if "buying the bass you really want" as it doesn't exist. Whenever I get that sort of crap I always ask - What non-custom bass can I buy with that neck and with 17.5mm string spacing etc etc that (for example) already has EMGS or whatever. I've never got an answer.
11. Due to a slight OCD issue I like even numbers. 20,22,24 are all good.
12. I doubt Mesa will help - they will direct you to Westside Distribution and they don't like helping anyone who hasn't bought a UK model.
13. http://images.cdbaby.name/d/o/dougjohns3_large.jpg?v=b9542374-189a-49f0-97bd-417035df5f9e Doug Johns album?
14. In advance in full. No money - don't even load the car.
15. Yup. I like GHS Pressurewounds as a good halfway.
16. For £30 the box models will just be a daisy chain in the box. They won't have isolated outputs. Can be fine if your pedals aren't noisy though.
17. I'm crying. I haven't even seen it yet and I want it and cannot afford it.
18. I gigged my little stack last week. Music Trust gig so several ensembles of various sizes. Sounded brilliant. Extra height of 2 cabs was great for monitoring and there seemed to just be a bit more of everything. Played everything from Bacarach tunes to the Hawaii 5-0 theme!
19.
Is that just because what we have been led to believe as 'the norm'?
I don't think so. A rock show has movement of the players, running round huge stages. Can't do that with a stand.
20.
Because you get very little repeatition of notes, rhythm, or structure that you get in rock/pop. I play in orchestras and in large wind bands. Some of the easier pieces, the music is an aide-memoire since you get to know it after a few rehearsals. But you don't develop that level of familiarity with more complex works, plus as already noted, there are a vast number of articulation, dynamic and performance instructions, as well as notes and rhythm to worry about, plus other performance guidance notes, cuts etc. Typically you get maybe 4 or 5 rehearsals, do concert, start rehearsing new set of music... I don't yet play bass in any group. When I get round to that, it is likely to be jazz-ish probably. Since I don't currently know any bass music, I'm anticipating using a stand, which I do not see as a problem. Maybe over time, if I end up developing a core repertoire that is aired regularly, that requirement will fade. Don't know. I don't see it as a big deal. One orchestra I play in has a partially sighted player. He has an A4 sized tablet. He gets his music scanned and then video reversed so that white is black and vice versa - he can see this better. He has a pedal to control scrolling. The main point is surely that what matters is the end result - if it's a decent performance, what's the issue?
Orchestra: fine Imagine Muse or Metallica with music stands. No.
21.
Agreed about watching the carver. But, It's not always about knowing and learning the charts, that's the easy bit. For reference in certain situations. If there is some kind of mess up on stage or elsewhere, then the Conductor or MD shouts out 'Bar 88..1.2.3', you just do it, or pre show there is section cut (for whatever reason), pencil in the cut. No messing around looking for the music, there is no time (unless you have memorised every bar number as well) the moment has gone. The pad is mostly for reference after a while. IE, tune order etc. It's a safety net. IMHO of course. All this as well.
Hadn't thought about a mad jump to a new section, probably because that hasn't happened to me (yet). I would be screwed unless it was something I had learned on the way like Section A or B or something.
22. Even when I play in the local orchestra I learn the tunes so I don't have to use the music. I treat it like I was in a rock band again. I never look at it during the performance, eyes on the conductor. I am often surprised that even the Grade 8 players haven't memorised them. Some of them could sight read and transpose at the same time having never seen or heard the piece before. But not remember it after a term of rehearsals.
