Strings Direct, Andertons, Thomann, Amazon have various of their products - guitar strings / bass / uke etc.
Still shown on Strings And Things distributor page too.
Why do you say they went out of business?
In an old band a guy celebrating his birthday asked if we could do Enter Sandman and he could sing it.
It was an end of year student union party so we said yes. 2 of the band didn’t know it so we went through it in our 30 mins break.
We got up to do it and the guy started to sing.
turned out he only new the chorus and sang that over all of it. It was woeful.
I'm surprised that many posters here are surprised.
This has been the case for years. The big couriers even stated why several years ago - poorly packed instruments leading to massively increased claims. Shops negotiate their own deals, or use their business insurance to cover any courier based losses. Shops are also less likely to put in a dodgy claim when compared to an ebay deal.
There are couriers out there who will insure properly but most of them require a phone call and not just a web form.
IIRC ParcelFlight are used by Bass Gear for Foderas and the like, and I think UPS will do full insurance if you get a bespoke quite over the telephone.
And for those complaining about them taking the money and then you discovering this.... you know that little "I HAVE READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND AGREE THEM" tick box that you had to tick before the payment was taken.... the details were all in there. You just didn't read it. That is not their fault.
I'd guess at about the £2000 mark as well.
Seems to be the average for artist (non custom shop) US models.
So as with most 50 year old designs with a new paint job and a different pickup - it's over priced.
I agree.
I swap Fender tunes (or ny stupid heavy big plate tuner) for Hipshot Ultra-lights.
And because I'm REALLY anal about such things I go for the Y shaped ones because they are 2 grams lighter than the bigger ones.
On a 5 string bass - like my Ray 5 - I saved an entire half a pound in weight swapping to Ultralites. Might not sound much - but when it's all on the end of a long bass neck the difference is amazing.
I'm with the shop on this.
You bought it in person. They don't have to give you any return time at all if you decide you just don't like it. The Cooling off period for online sales is because you don't get the chance to try it before you buy.
I'm still amazed that clothes shops allow changes for so long after purchase - the amount of people they must have buying stuff and wearing it for a party and returning it must be mental.
I'm pretty matched in speed whether pick or fingers. I was a Sheehan / Harris fan boy for decades.
But some tunes just sound better to my ears with a pick, especially those that could do with a bit of palm muting. I can mute with my right hand when playing fingers but it sounds very different to palm muting.
I like the idea. I've got a Uke bass but the rubbery strings are a bit crap, especially when I sweat.
I'd like to try one. £400 is a bit steep for a travel bass though so it would have to be very good.
