I love that idea.... although I've just looked at my rig. Italian, Finnish, Japanese amps. British cabs. Australian, Japanese, Dutch, British, Finnish pedals (and 3 USA ones). The yanks will have to up their game!

Just thought I'd share this.

There is no indication yet whether any existing warranties and rights will continue as they are founded in EU law. If a warranty states that the rights of the parties to that warranty are governed by a particular bit of legislation and that legislation has been repealed or amended in such a way to no longer be applicable, then there will be test cases as to whether any removal of rights is retrospective or just from 1st Jan 2021. It won't be the buy spending a grand on an amp that runs those cases as they can't afford it. It will be at a far larger level. Then there will be appeals. Looking after your customers is great, but when looking after them post the thing that can't be named is going to cost a lot more something will have to give. Even the simple action of selling an item will become more expensive due to the extra time needed for customs declarations. Then if there is a problem that requires a refund there will be even more customs hassle to deal with. Thomann would have to supply the customer with proof of refunds so the customer can then seek a refund from HMRC. The handling charge won't be refundable as it's a fee for doing admin and that work was done and the item not working isn't the fault of the postal service used. Similar paperwork requirements will be for when an item is replaced under warranty to try and stop HMRC charging again when the replacement unit lands. Thomann will likely have to provide the evidence to help the customer as HMRC generally don't accept thing generated by us little people. All of that eats into the margins. Wouldn't surprise me to see different prices for UK -v- EU to cover the extra. Or depending on what trade deal (if any) maybe even requiring the customer to pay shipping on returns irrespective of fault - all properly announced before purchase of course. From January onwards there will be people looking to return things just as they do now and then possibly finding out that the protections they enjoyed this year are no longer in place. It will all come down to how much business Thomann does with UK buyers. If it's a large amount compared to the EU nations then they will find a way to minimise the issues. If on the other hand it's a smaller amount than the extra overheads needed to deal with it, then I can see limits put in place. Such as no sales of items under £300 to the UK as there isn't enough of a margin in cheaper items to deal with any problems etc. But no matter how well intentioned Thomann is, they can't do anything about the requirements of the UK and German customs services. That's all unavoidable additional expense.

I've seen some plans for this sort of thing at football grounds and other large places. The one I saw was for Manchester somewhere - raised platforms with room for a max of 20 people. 20 tickets have to be purchased and that gets you a platform. Drinks service to the platform via text ordering. 20 people is quite a large bubble though. Far bigger than most family bubble groups. Sounds pretty good... until the issue of toilets. No mention of how that was going to work.

That's not a Westside thing - That's standard practice in the industry. It's not decided by the distributors, it's imposed by the manufacturers. Often because of slightly different specs / safety requirements in different countries. UK distributors are not going to hold stock of parts that are only used on US models. If an item is not bought in the UK then it's not under UK legislation. If you buy from the USA and they US company gives you a warranty then if you want it fixed you have to pay to get it sent back to the USA, and to come back to you again. You'll also find that some manufacturer warranties exclude cover if a local voltage transformer has been used with the amp. Same applies for an American customer buying a british amp from the UK. It will get worse in January. If you want a nice big Diezel amp you'll get the best deal from Thomann but you'll need to buy it before then to get proper protection (assuming a deal is done to honour those warranties).

Those sorts of threads have been on many forums for years but as far as I know this is the first one where Mesa have engaged with it.

Andertons have just confirmed that Mesa are selling direct to the stores now so there are price cuts. I have no idea how much the Mesa bass amps were before but one that I am familiar with - the Dual Rectifier - was £3100 and has now dropped to £2349. A reduction of £751. I (and others too) have been moaning about Westside and their pricing for years. Seems like someone has finally realised that UK sales were being harmed. For guitar amps the used market shouldn't suffer. Dual Recs sell at £1000 to £1200 and I can't see them dropping much. That's still half price.

interesting! I wonder if that was to be able to put the neck pickup where he wanted it, or whether the bridge pickup tightness was what he was looking for.

I am really enjoying my Ibanez 32 inch scale Mezzo. So much that I'm thinking of getting more. But I'm thinking of buying to modify. Couldn't buy the parts for under £300 so it seems like a cheap way of getting a good body, great neck, tuners etc etc. Just need to get a new scratchplate / pickup etc. I'm tempted to kind of make a 32 scale stingray. There are plenty of diagrams around showing accurate pickup positioning for 34 inch scale. If I want to adjust that for 32 inch, is it as simple as applying a percentage difference the same as the percentage difference between 32 and 34 inches? Or is there something else I need to consider? The OCD in me is already worried that a standard stingray pickup - built for 34 inch scale - will actually have the coils too far apart at 32 inches! (I spent a good hour thinking about using a narrower dual coil like a Nordy before I got over myself!).

I’ve got G70 and G75 and have no problems with EMGs. Stingray can be noisy with small bug type transmitters. Extension cable and moving the bug to the strap cured it.

Tomorrow I’ll charge a 9v properly and then leave the pedal on while I’m working. If I can get 4 hours out of it that will be excellent.

The demos of the BB-1X (the drive pedal) are good for some players and not so great for others. I am curious though! The compressor is ace. No dip and swell, no over compression of the lows, and amazingly low noise floor. I have some rechargeable 9V so I might do a test and leave it on to see how long it will last.

Bought on a rum fuelled whim. Was halfway expecting to send it back when the hangover went, but it’s actually really good. I’m impressed. Dead easy to dial in.

Found the brand of the cable I used for the 9V conversion https://myvolts.co.uk/Ripcord As it happens all the centre neg ones are out of stock at the moment, but maybe they can be bought elsewhere. They work very well.

I do it all the time. Some pedal preamps have a different character to the sound, some just have more useful EQ points for the room. I like to leave the EQ on my sandberg flat when setting up, and then I can have full use of it to tweak it during a performance without having to faff with my amp / pedals again.
