Shimming neck pocket to raise neck
fretmeister replied to shoulderpet's topic in Repairs and Technical
Definitely rout out a slot for rod access. You'd have to raise the neck in the pocket by at least half a centimetre, maybe more otherwise. -
Just about to say this. Easy way to spot - if the amount of things that can be switched exceeds the connections on a stereo plug then the footswitch is doing more than just connecting and disconnecting things and is actually sending product specific instruction signals.

String gauge when moving from round wound to flats

I always go lighter on flats if I can. -
Gig Safety - RCD, Residual Current Devices.
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
Noted. I've ordered a couple of those, thank you. There's only me and an electric piano plugged in (rest is drums and a lot of horns and reeds) so hopefully that will do the job. -
They did have this problem several years ago but I thought it had been solved. I wonder if you managed to buy new, old stock? Might be worth an email to EB's UK people.

I have some village fete type gigs over the summer and no doubt the power supply will be shocking (ahem) at some of them. Can anyone recommend a good RCD? (I've already got EMG pickups - so no ground wire to the bridge, and I'm thinking about taking my wireless as well even though the stage sizes won't need it) ta

Raise the pickups on that side. They are thinner and have a lower output as a result. Raising the pickups just on that side, and maybe lowering them on the E and A side should help balance them out.

Rehearsed with it this morning. It’s very loud and punchy. Great sound with a Super Twin.

I am seriously wondering about what I can off load to look at the Evo5 - if they've sorted the fan noise then...

New Moon and Allianz are the big players. I find New Moon to be a bit cheaper. I just covered (a scary amount) for about £140 to include theft from cars / venues etc. Most house insurance policies won't cover theft from vehicles or venues so it's a no brainer for me.

Youtube has become so important though. More equipment is sold via the internet than in person - and the percentage difference is massive. Some physical shops sell 75% online. Vids from a variety of people is important for that - slappers can have their fave player, the rockers someone else etc. And especially with the cost of returning an online order amp if you don't like it, the videos help people decide what they do not want to buy. A good set of vids cuts down on the amount of returns that the shop has to deal with and avoids that expense.

The wife just agreed to me buying a new bass

You get an Orson! -
It needs more than that. They play their way. They always sound like them. That's the point of multiple demos from different players. At least The Bass Channel has 4 or 5 different players with different styles.
-
Their social media game is really weak compared to others. When others launch a new product there's often 10 youtubers revealing their demo vids on launch day. They are provided with units in advance so there's loads available at launch. They really need to be doing that sort of thing these days. I'm looking forward to the demo - I want to see if I can hear the fans!!

Lets hear it for Tony Franklin's incredible hair

In my youth! I even went for the full Jason Newsted undercut at one point. Just like his..... but with less gig pay! -
Lets hear it for Tony Franklin's incredible hair

TBF you could say that or similar about all his playing, ever. -
Put on a CD at a good volume (EQ is very volume dependent) and play along. Tweak each control at a time and see what it does. Even better if you can have someone else tweak while you play so you get instant signal changes. What it does in the mix is far more important than how it sounds alone. Often they are very different. This process will help you learn what each does on your amp. All amps are a little different. On some the Bass knob could be 40hz or 60hz ish. On others it might be as high as 80Hz. So they are all different, so always ignore the knob positions and trust your ears. Have a look on youtube for Isolated Bass Tracks. These are the actual bass tracks from famous recordings. Listen to the full recording and then the bass part alone. You'll usually find that when heard alone the bass part is far dirtier than expected and may have a bit of a nasal quality to the sound where a lot of highs and super lows have been reduced. Sounds horrible on it's own, but brilliant in the mix. Ultimately though it's just somewhere from 3-5 knobs on most amps. Have a good tweak so you learn to hear what they do.

Medium scale, roundwound steel strings - options?
fretmeister replied to RaNoFuNkY's topic in Accessories and Misc
If it will fit through the tuning head then use whatever you like. Medium scale steels Warwick Black Label are available as medium scale La Bella RX used to be medium but they are no longer on the site. But some places might have stock GHS Super Steels have a medium scale set Rotosound Swing Stainless steel -
With a super twin and a more trad cab you might need to do very different EQ shaping. Traditional cabs are quite often far more scooped as a starting point and the ST is a lot more neutral and very close to flat response. Don't be afraid to use all the range of the EQ controls, it is what they are for.

zoot suit riot. Big band style.

He’s mainly a session player and musical director for some big acts. Also big in American gospel stuff. Monster player.

Because it’s the Andrew Gouche signature model.

I need to remember if any of my basses have rounds on them to try it with that as well as flats!

Finally here. Only had 5 mins with it so far but it sounds good and has that warmth MB amps usually have. Quite different to the RM800 but that's a good thing as I like a bit of variety. Bit of fan noise (not as quiet as the Ashdown) but no louder than a pretty quiet PC that isn't doing anything taxing. Might take it to rehearsal on Saturday to see what happens in the mix.
