  1. It now has some brand new D’addario 45-105 nickels on it with the action nice and low. In the past I’ve had TI flats on it and that was excellent too. Awesome for recording too!
  2. on Facebook Ashdown said they were getting plenty of customer feedback about them being too noisy hence the new quiet system. But no doubt it depends on what your use is.
  3. On Facebook Ashdown confirmed the fans are silent AND that newly built 600 have the silent fan upgrade too!
  4. I've always wondered why some bass cabs go to 20kHz. My Super Twin tops out at 4kHz and that's plenty for anything other than really cutting Marcus Miller top end - which I don't like anyway.
  5. Signal degradation on long signal runs with high end attenuation Noisy clacking when switching on and off. Often pickup environment noise The fad about true bypass started because some buffered pedals had poor quality buffers in them. Here's Vai / Zappa's guitar tech explaining it with Pete Thorn A good buffered pedal is always better than a true bypass one. "Tone suck" - usually that high end roll off - is caused by the long cable run that a TB pedal preserves because there isn't a buffer. Most amusingly the so-called boutique pedal industry has led to more TB pedals giving longer signal paths.... and because of that there is now a wide variety of standalone buffers to be mounted onto pedal boards. The pointlessness of a TB pedal has actually caused people to need a new product on their board! It's amazingly ironic. They just need to stick a Boss TU-3 at the front as a tuner and all the Tone Suck disappears instantly!
  6. Can't do it! It changes every day. Could be Sheehan one day, Dunn, then Claypool, then 'Nard, Deacon, Newsted, dUg etc etc.
  7. It's just a tweeter control. If you already have your treble control turned down quite a lot then you won't notice much if anything. On the other hand if your amp treble is at full then you'll notice more and the tweeter deals with those upper frequencies
  8. I am really enjoying this amp. It's a step up again from the Marcus Miller one I had. It's really punchy and the EQ is now my favourite on any MB amp I've had.
  9. Sandberg Superlights are probably the lightest solid body bassists around. The TT4 (jazz type) come in under 3kg They have the Lionel Shortscale that they will build as a Superlight - and the V and T style basses (P and J really) are available to order with 32 inch scales as well - and again can be ordered with the Superlight woods. It's about a year from order to delivery but you won't find anything lighter with those sorts of specs.
  10. Trent Guitars did a thread about the design on the fretboard https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/229261/i-made-a-bass/p1
  11. SOLD AND GONE. Selling this lovely Fender Urge ii Stu Hamm bass. I have owned this for years and years and it's a wonderfully sounding instrument with IMHO the best neck Fender ever put on a bass. It's somewhere between a J and a P with an oval profile that is really comfy. The only reason I'm selling is because it's 4.1kg / 9lb in weight and my medical issues mean I can't cope with that anymore. Another unique thing about the bass is the pickup arrangement. It's Jazz / Precision / Jazz with a very clever switching arrangement that controls all 3. With the switch at the rear it is just a J as you'd expect, with a balance / pan control. With the switch in the front position it is just a P. The balance control does nothing. In the middle it's all 3 pickups on - but with the Jazz pickups still controlled by the balance. So you can have Full JPJ. Or you can have the neck J with the P. Or the P with the bridge J. There's a great preamp system too that is very powerful. It's 34 inch scale and the finish is far more metallic in person. The bass is 16 years old so of course there are some little marks here and there, but so far I haven't been able to photograph them. Marks you can see in the pics are reflections from the room. I'll get outside later to take some more. It's currently got some very dusty D'Addario Pro Steels on it (40-100 iirc) but I will stick some fresh strings on - probably 45s as that's what I have. I'll finally get to use the Dunlop polish set I got for christmas too! When I got it used at least 10 years ago I didn't get a case or a bag with it, so it's collection only from Northants. I'm looking for about £1250 ono. The only trades I would consider would be Sandberg Superlights - ideally a very lightweight 5 string example, but any Superlights would interest me. EDIT - I've had some trade offers but they've all been too heavy. Max weight for trades is 3kg. So it's really only Sandberg Superlights as I don't think there's anything else that light. I'll try and do a bit of video when I get the chance. ta
  12. Bryan Beller shared this on IG, noting the NHS are doing their thing but there are still financial hardships and asking if anyone can buy a sub on Steve's bandcamp page to help out. https://www.instagram.com/p/CfpBoFbPJzl/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
  13. I hope not. True bypass is usually a terrible idea.
  14. All your answers are here
  15. Having to take it off a board to get to the other controls is a crap idea. Apparently this is part of a new line of smaller pedals. The width savings seem to be no better than swapping from fat jack cables to EBS flat ones. It's a NO from me.
  16. No idea of money yet
  17. Anyone you like - but buy a separate proper insurance policy for it as well. Secursus has a good rep on TheFretboard forum
  18. Ed Friedland already has that title, for the last 20 odd years!
  19. Gigged it today. Very pleased.
  20. Line 6 and Boss make very capable budget ones now. Can't go wrong with either to be honest.
  21. I like the yellow - and I saw in the presentation there were some made with a blue cab - still with the yellow speakers. I really liked the look!
  22. Anyone found any prices yet?
  23. The cabs seem to be very deep, and although 15.75kg for a 410 is amazing I'd still want some tilt back wheels on it! It's not quite as light as the GR AT410 (but a bit lighter than the AT410+).
  24. Could be - especially if they were shifting the cab builds back to Italy. Can't be an easy thing to arrange. Personally I don't care where anything is built - it's not enough of an issue anymore. The days of "Far Eastern crap" are long gone.
