  1. @ikay This is what I've got so far I'll do more as I go through the box of things. I've taken the scratchplate off my Ibanez and the screws and replaced the knobs and just those small changes have knocked off 127g. If I make it passive and lose the battery, clip, preamp, and 2 pots and 2 knobs I reckong losing another 99g would be quite simple. That would be half a pound off for very minor changes. I did notice that the Aguilar P pickup is very light for it's type too. Instead of a bitsa I'm now wondering about modifying my Mezzo instead. I wonder how much paint weighs...?
  2. I have a pair of Yamaha HS7 monitors. They are marvellous. Great at all volumes, more than loud enough for deafening home volumes and really clear. I use them with my helix and for all my PC audio (using helix as my soundcard and interface). 99% of my home playing is with them.
  3. No - Bass Direct. They really need to improve their website game. Live tracking of stock levels has to be the bare minimum these days.
  4. Now that I remember I did have an issue in the house. I eventually discovered it was whenever the tumble dryer was on. It's an ancient dryer and it makes a racket and the bushings are shot. I suspect it was putting out a lot of EM signal. I really need to replace it. I never took the dryer to a gig for the Rush look so it was never an issue at a show!
  5. I would imagine a set of .175 .135 .115 .095 usually used for basses with a low F# but tuned to E standard would be as high a tension as anyone could ever want.
  6. Yes. Unfortunately the shop website didn't mention that it was out of stock and the follow up email that said "We'll send it out next week" turned out to be bollocks. I've chased for another update, but if it's too long or I don't get a response in a day or 2 then I'll cancel and buy something else. I have gigs coming up (the first since lockdown) and I need to take 2 amps, just in case. There's no PA to use as DI box with in an emergency.
  7. I've got a couple of Line 6 G70 units. They are discontinued now. Some reported drop outs in use - I only had that when I didn't follow the start up scanning process to look for a clear frequency. When that is done they've been rock solid. If I was looking for a replacement, I'd get the Shure GLXD16. I nearly bought that the first time round, it was only that Andertons did a really cheap clear out price (50% off) that made me go for the L6 ones.
  8. Existing owners would go nuts if Wal suddenly flooded the market driving the used prices down. And then we'd also get the Klon like "this one pre-dates whatever" price gouging just because one had a different logo on it type nonsense. Maybe Ferrari should scale up their production and sell the cars for £30K as well.
  9. It is now installed. I like it. But ye gods the output is MASSIVE. Cut the bass in my amp quite a lot to make it sound more mid pushed like a traditional P pickup and lowered the input gain. I’m using 250 pots with it. Dimarzio suggest a 500 vol and 250 tone, but the 250 pair sounds good to me.
  10. Sounds like you have a nickel allergy. It's actually quite common. Some people have it so badly that some coins cause a reaction. Finger slip is just practice I'm afraid!
  11. TBF I think BigRedX wasn't talking about moving around or off-axis mic'ing etc. Just that you cannot guess what a 15 is going to sound like until you plug it in. It might be deeper sounding than a 10 but just as likely it won't be. Crossed wires a bit I think.
  12. My action is so low that nobody likes playing my basses. Also, I have had some appallingly built basses.
  13. That's a great list. As I discover more I'll post them in the thread so you can update it.
  14. A nice strap makes things more comfy but no strap in the universe can make the bass actually lose weight. If the body is in pain in the back or core the strap cannot make a difference. The damaged body parts are still having to support the same weight. Also, some wide and comfy straps can weigh a couple of pounds, adding to the pressure on injuries thus making the problem worse.
  15. New Moon for me. Lots cheaper than Allianz
  16. I like a neutral cab and the BF Super Twin is very neutral, or at least the most neutral I've ever used. But as I hardly ever have a gig with a PA and I currently only need 1 sound live I like the amp head to give me the tone I want. But if I wanted to carry more kit I'd be happy to take a Helix and a poweramp, or go direct into the PA if the monitors were good enough.
  17. Bolt on. Simple reason - if the weather goes mental I cannot shim a set neck or a neck through.
  18. I've just weight a usual domed metal knob. 26g and then a plastic with a grub screw knob. 4g So that would be a 44g saving on a 2 knob bass. I've got a 5 string Mezzo with heavy metal knobs on it. That bass is really light already, but as swapping 4 knobs would get rid of about 80g (2 of the knobs are a little smaller) I might as well do that too.
  19. Ceder or Paulownia is much lighter than swamp ash or basswood
  20. Going passive saves between 45-55g for the battery and clip too!
  21. I need them, alas. Sometimes for long quiet sections, and I change the tone depending on the tune.
  22. When did Spike start playing 2nd guitar from back stage during the solos?
  23. I use one of these bags https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00T0OJG5M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 It's a perfect fit and leaves enough room on top of the amp for a couple of cables / sheet music etc.
