1.
Lovely! If you offered shipping you would open up your bass to a much bigger audience... Just an idea
See your advice and raise you an edit of my original post! Ta!
2. Hi all, at last my Status must go after years of service. I have owned it from new,but now I'm after a PJ bass(possible trade),so here she is. £300 collected from Surrey, but I could travel up to 20 miles to you. Shipping possible(about £30 according to R.Mail website). The thumb rest was added by myself, and is screwed on. The rear strap button has been moved a few times, and as you can see, there are scratches on the body. It's complete with the original fitted case and a set of strap locks.
3. All good advice, folks, but the Status just does'nt float my boat these days. I'll give it some thought over the next week. The cash from the sale could go towards modding the P(j pup plus wiring). Keep the advice flowing, good people.
4. Ok,as you can see from my signature,I own two basses. And like a lot of others,I wish to simplify things by having only one. It looks like the Status will be for the chop, but I have absoloutely no idea of the value of a used Groove with original Hiscox case. It's got some extra holes where I've moved the strap button,a thumb rest and wear and tear scratches on it which will affect the value. So,what price range should I put it in?
5. In the interests of equality,I think there should be at least 2 lebians on this forum. Photo's only,mind......... I always thought a lesbian was one of them astrological signs
6.
Hello, is this going again? OK then... Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead.
F**k!I supported them at the Red Lion in Brentford! Back on track.....I'd back up Rory Gallagher,Richard Thompson or play for XTC.
7. Fender flats here.I tried Status ones but the G was twangy .
8.
I'll be 40 next year and I've long since given up trying to be a musical athlete, but I work hard on understanding what I'm doing and trying to play interesting stuff that adds an extra dimension to a song without being too busy. I still can't take a compliment though, I'm not happy enough with my playing to take any comfort in someone else congratulating me for it.
Ditto, but I'm 44. Long ago I realised that I was'nt nible-fingered,fleet of fingertips or able to concoct a flowing line at the drop of a hat.So I concentrated on playng what was fitting for the song with as few notes as possible. So far so good!
9.
People have had brilliant results with waxing instead of full on painting. There are build diaries somewhere. I think it was Truckstop and his ibanez blazers that I'm thinking of.
I stripped and waxed a friends Samik P bass. Get it totally striped, dye it then wax it.Just make sure that the dye will not react with the wax.
10. Love the look of the EVO. Perhaps a double 'bucker version should be produced(Warwick $$ pup placement?).
11. Prestia's primary instruments are his Fender Precision basses (a purple transparent American Deluxe and a natural ash-bodied short-lived signature model with a reverse split pickup and a 2-band EQ). In recent years he has maintained an association with the Conklin company that provided him a custom built four-string instrument, one of the few in the company's catalog. Found this on Wiki,Lojo. Could it be one of those you've got?
12.
+1 for Fender Flats. Cheap and decent.
Make that a +2. Some flats suffer from a twangy G string ,but these are spot on.
13.
I think the issue here is that not all plywood is created equal... Pop down your local DIY store and buy a piece of generic ply and you'll probably have something not much better than chipboard for a bass body. It'll be made form who know what and be full of voids and badly glued layers. However, find yourself some high quality. void-free, birch ply (sometimes known as "marine play" cause it's traditionally in boat building) Phil
True enough that there are differing grades in plywood(mainly to do with the timbers used),but birch ply is not marine grade. Marine ply has differing grades depending on the end useage(Lloyds and Anchor ratings are for boat hulls in salt water.Standard Marine ply is for making boxes etc which are above the waterline and not for immersion in salt or fresh water). If you want to build a body from ply,get something that is hardwood throughout and not softwood with a hardwood veneer. There will be less defects in hardwood ply.
14. Hohner JJ bass. Bypass switch on the 2 band EQ,puple top(may have been maple). Only jazz bass I have ever liked. Also see Yamaha BBN4. Clubby but comfy neck, passive pups.
15.
I have a girl in each of my bands who are both talented and classy, each good looking. One plays violin / keyboards and one sings. Drunken idiots in pubs come in all shapes and sizes after all.
I was once in a band with two utterly charming and classy ladies. But the following tale may well make one of them sound a little, well, uncouth and lax in the common sence department. We were playing a gig at the Bull and Gate in London's seedy Kentish Town. All was going well, the groove was mighty, and the audience was on our side. Banter between us and them was flowing well, and our lovely singer, who was a gorgeous and curvy lass, had decided to wear a skirt which resembled a pleated lamp shade(it seemed to flare out at the side and was rigid). Feeling parched, she bent down from the waist to retrieve her drink.Drummer and I were directly behind her,and were treated to the sight of her thong. Cue the rhythm section performing a comedy double take and taking great interest in the ceiling. What made things worse was that between her and us was her husband(our keyboard player)who was oblivious to what had happened. The drummer has since claimed that he has been mentally scarred by(I quote)the sight of her tuna canoe.
16. Milty, you are not mad.You just wish to live your life by your own rules. Why should'nt cats have underpants?Yes,you can wear a bison mask when you buy a newspaper. It's your nose, and you can fill it with ricotta if you wish. If polite society can overlook these little foibles, then there IS a band a for you! Seriously, all the best for your quest.
17. I WANT THIS NOW.
18.
Exactly, get a grip people & here's hoping John pulls through.
Ditto
19. A lovely piece of work. Love the thumb-rest.
20.
They really should make a bass with just a simple pick up, passive vol and tone (after all amps do everything else you need), a nice contour to rest your arm, and a neck with precise frets and easy to adjust pegs.
It'll never take off.......
21. My best to the drummer. Take a break, see what happens. It usually comes good in the end.
