1.
There's a gorgeous orange metallic BB414 for sale on the forums. Trust me, you won't be disappointed
Tempting.... I had one in white.Great neck, superb build quality, excellent sound.But.......bloody huge! When I strapped it on it felt like I had a shield in front of me. Useful for the rougher gigs, though!
2. I think you've built my dream bass
3. The ash bodied 214 ticks all the boxes for me. When is the release date?
4.
Ha, same here. Kinda miss it actually.
And me!I miss taking only 20 mins to change strings.
5. Thanks for all the suggestions. Please keep them coming. I better add that the money for the new bass won't be available until I have filed this years tax return.I'm hoping HMRC are kind to me! Second,I can't get on with Jazz bass bodies,or any bass without decent contouring. Neepheid,I've had a Yammy, and I'm sorely tempted to get another one. Chismuzz,I had'nt considered a Peavey.I'll give them a look. Hamfist,ta for the link to the German retailer. The SB2 looks great, and reviews of them seem to be favourable. Anyone got any comments about the ESP LTD Vintage 204?
6.
One of these?
Had one years ago.Great sound, but the body was too big for little me!I also hated the slab look to it.
7. I would have got one for Xmas, but lots of car repairs put pay to that.I'm hoping that this year I can celebrate my own NBD,so I am after suggestions from all BC'ers. The criteria is: must be new £350 max passive no pointy headstocks. Brand name isn't an issue, and I'm not bothered about rosewood or maple on the fretboard. Answers please!
8. Hi Bassix, hope the sale goes well. For anybody reading this,I have owned a Groove from new for about 14/15 years.Strung with flats and played passive they are warm and old-school.Put on rounds and turn the actives on and you can go from ear slicing treble to big-butt bassiness! If I wasn't GASing for a P bass(and I was'nt skint)this would be mine! Buy it now!
9. Whatever you do,keep it musical! All the best fellah!
10. Since become a BC member I have learnt that it does'nt matter how many or few notes you play,or if you stick to the root notes or like to play fluid melodic runs. What matters is making sure that your technique isn't sloppy. I've learnt that a good amp can make a cheap bass sound good, how great flatwound strings are,why you should'nt buy a Bass Centre comfort strap, and discovered a community of funny, witty, compassionate and friendly souls who will offer good advice, humour, and wit. I now have GAS for a P-bass,want a custom made scratch plate, and am in need of councelling after seeing the transvestite Jap bass player on YouTube. Thanks!
11. Fun video and a great song. All the best with it.
12. High end,coffe table,multi laminate neck,multi string basses.
13. I first heard Jerry Scheffs playing on King of America(Elvis Costello). Wonderful player, and top bloke too.
14. Don't do it.Spend the money on beer and loose women instead.
15. Really great stuff.CD on Xmas list.
16. Could be that a Bass Collection Power Bass(Islington Blue)is just what the doctor ordered......
17.
By a used bass. That way you get a load more for your money and you don't end up paying 20% of the purchase price as VAT. The fact that you liked all three tells me that you'll easily find something you'll like as well as these. Why the rush?
Me want NOW! Excuse my 4 year old self, please. If I get it soonish,it'll prevent the Other Half from suggesting a better use for the dosh(such as curtains, food,or paying the bills.).
18. Same problem here. I had a reply to a thread but no notification by e-mail or in the notifications box.
19. No way! It's a definate keeper, plus the fact that it has got loads of chips and scratches, and a thumb rest stretching from the pup to the fret board. I think the re-sale value would be about the price of a four pack of Guiness!
20. I've been given the green light to get another bass, which was originally going to be a Warwick Rockbass Streamer Standard(the one with the passive MEC humbuckers),but as they are as rare as hen's teeth,I will probably give it a miss. A quick trip to Andertons in Guildford has left me perplexed as to what I should choose. As I have a budget of £300-£350(has to include gig-bag and strap locks)my choice is limited, but the 3 I tried all hit the right spot. The SUB4 felt as comfy as an old sweater(albeit one with a monster tone),the VM Squier Jag had a lovely pre-amp(IMHO),and had my favourite P-J configuration, and the P-bass had the simpicity I like. How the f**k can I choose!!Help!! The Jag is the cheapest, the SUB4 the dearest, and they all do something I like. All suggestions gratefully received.
21. No tattoos or piercings.Have hats.Moody bugger.Low intelligence.Laughs at fart jokes.
22. 5 string!!!Thats only one away from being a g**tar!!! But thanks for the offer.
23.
Ive had one of these for a few years . Liked the way it felt -- better than most of the real warwicks -- and could get a good sound at home .But on stage was always too much top or too much bottom . Mine was from thomann and was actually "slightly" active . First I knew about it was when it stopped working after a year and I found a battery in it !!!. When I say slightly active it seemed to be a tone circuit only -- virtually no boost . Eventually I decided I would get rid of the warwick stuff and put a fender p bass pick up in it . ---- What a difference --. now has a really even sound with lots of p bass punch !!
It's the 2 humbucker one that I'm interested in.The original Rockbass design IIRC.
24. The weight could be an issue(back trouble etc). I'm trying to get away from active basses, and Fender stuff does'nt do it for me. Any suggestions?
