2.
Update.... Our first gig has now been booked for April 25th @ The Ship in Leigh-On-Sea, Essex. It's a small venue, but sold out within three days of being announced on FB. So, six weeks to go and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm becoming obsessed by everything Bowie and I'm loving it. It's the most alive I have ever felt from a musical standpoint. Just started work on Panic In Detroit and New Killer Star. Won't be ready for The Ship, but time well spent.
Great stuff it sounds a great gig. Will you be posting the setlist here ? Intrigued to see what you went with.
3.
Dee Murray, although generally not underrated by anyone that knows about him. Check out any early Elton John, 11-17-70 reminds me why I love bass everytime I listen.
Definitely. especially with Nigel Olson on drums. Cracking rhythm section .
4. Sorry that's me confusing cabs v combos. Another senior moment. I was only thinking last night while rehearsing with a loud drummer how nicely a 102 cab would work under my combo. What were you thinking of sticking on top of your 102p if you go for it.
5.
Following a recent (still current, in fact) run in with a bad back I'm looking around at lightweight cabs again. I quite fancy the Markbass Traveler 102P, which is still advertised everywhere as 15Kg, but I remember there was a thread on here mid last year saying the 102P had increased to 18Kg when production moved to Indonesia and the cab material changed. That info was posted by Marco himself, although some of his later posts in the thread could have been taken to suggest he was going to review that info, or even maybe review the cab material change. Has anyone on here actually bought a new one recently, and weighed it or compared it with something around the same weight? I'm currently using an Ampeg PF115, which is only just over 20Kg itself. I think 5Kg lighter, along with having the two side mounted handles, will make a fair bit of difference, but if it's only 2Kg less then it's not going to be worth it.
I just had a look athe instruction manual for my cmd102p bought in 2006 and it says 20kg. So have they got lighter and then heavier again ?
6. What Jack and Bilbo said! Otherwise you've ticked all the performances boxes already so nothing to be nervous about other than nerves themselves. Sounds a lovely thing to do together with your girls. Have fun and who knows you could be playing together like PTB in 15 years. How nice is that?
7. Silly love songs Hey bulldog All my loving
8. Sounds like a great setlist to me
9. I have a cmd102 combo and absolutely love it. Have used it with and without pa support in function bands and rock bands. If i were gigging in large venues without pa regularly I'd probably add another 2x10 cab but it has coped with large marquee parties and smsll pubs on its own. Light weight loud and flexible I'd recommend it. Bit of a noisy fan and some have criticised these for sounding a bit sterile but it works for me.
10.
Fingertips? Pah! Who needs 'em ...
True. It'd stop the b***tards tapping I suppose.
11. No a mandolin is one of those chef things for slicing veg and removing fingertips. Far more useful than a 15 string bass, if a lot more dangerous.
12. Madness indeed Sir ! My God I hope I never have to listen to someone playing, tapping, fret w***king or whatever it is one does on one of those.
13.
Bruno Mars. His bassist is other worldly whereas he's a bit of a rehash merchant.
Good call!
14.
That's right. I do so hope that when he/she grows up, they launch an eponymous range of Hitchcock-inspired perfume: North, by North West.
Excellent
15.
Whilst camping with four mates in 1974, I pulled a girl one evening, went back to her place and returned to the tent three days later having spent a wonderful time with a beautiful young lady. The only thing that spoilt it was, she had just bought Tubular Bells and insisted on playing it for the whole three days!
The "piltdown man" chorus bit on side 2 would make an interestisting soundtrack for getting it on !
16. It wasn't me honest. I never had any headphones.
17. All of the last three posts have worked for me too. Especially the amp up and lighten fingers one.
18.
Does the teenage fumbling have to have been with another person to qualify for this thread?
I was discussing most embarassing moments with a mate of mine a few years ago. His was when living at home as a teenager retiring to his room for a spot of er? "Me time" with his righ hand accompanied by Pink Floyd's Wish You Were in the headphones. When he came around there was a nice hot cup of tea on the bedside table curtesy of his Mum.
19. Im not in love 10cc Its the only slow single we had at a teenage party and got played quite a few times once the snogging commenced
20. I have one of these for my MacBook. I just tried a foot on it in slippers. It flexes quite a bit and I'm not sure that it'll work with stomp boxes unless you have a pretty delicate stomp. Would the bending not cause problems with whatever you attach your pedals like Velcro? It's very good for laptops though.
21.
Well if we can mention several, I'd add Forever Changes (Love, 1967...) ... http://youtu.be/Q1L11Y0I5E0
Me too
22. Been playing Cissy Strut for a while . Love it
23.
I really like the "Jazz Era" Joni L.P's.. "Refuge of the Roads" from "Hejira" still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Joni's voice and acoustic guitar blend so well with JP's superbly phrased bass playing. That L.P. has got some classic songs on it that still stand today, "Amelia" and "Furry Sings the Blues" being just two.
My favourite too
