1. it's typical isn't it, no sooner do i get my money together and buy myself a pair of Barefaced midgets (the last cabs that i'm ever likely to have permission to buy) then Alex re-invents thew whole cab market and launches an even more impressive range. it's sod's law at work! i must say though that i'm incredibly impressed with the midget stack that i've got and a quick look at the specs of the new super cabs shows me that while the new cabs will probably be even more impressive, they won't fit on the shelf that i have been allocated for bass cab storage so i wouldn't be able to buy the new ones anyway! Matt
2. i haven't got round to trying flats on it yet but it was commented that the low b on my Letts was fantastic, maybe Jon just knows how to get a 34" scale low B to work! (i'm currently using DR Fatbeams) Matt
3. the best way to get a scratchplate is to ask the Bass Doc, he's got templates for pretty much every shape you could ever want and he'll make new ones to fit if there isn't one in his collection. best of all he can do almost any variation of colours and the price will be less than the Fender ones (but the quality is actually better!) Send him a PM and he'll sort you out with whatever you need. Matt
4.
I think that it would match just fine, the colours on the configurator aren't all that accurate. This Basic Ken Taylor is supposed to be the same colour:
ahh, well if the burst will match the body colours then i think it would look very nice but i'm not going to change my vote as i think that the natural will look a tiny bit better. Matt
5. i'm usually a fan of matching headstocks but the one in the picture doesn't really match (too dark round the edges) so it's natural for me.
6. i've got one of the older 5 string rockbass corvettes and it's a nice bass, very light and plays very well, but i only paid 120 quid for it so i'd definately echo the guys who posted before me, get a secondhand german one, you have enough money to be able to pick and choose a little but the one that was posted by Gregbass looks ,ike the one to go for, it's very similar to the one in the OP but german. ignore the wear as it's not that bad and i'd imagine that worse can happen on tour! I actually gave the same advice to a friend a while ago and they ignored it and bought a new rockbass without ever having played one, they didn't get on with it (not really suited to the music they were paying) and it was advertised for sale at about a month old and 150 quid less than it had been bought for! (he then decided to keep it as he didn't want to take the financial hit) Matt
7. i'd go with finding a jazz that you like the look and feel of then converting it to a p/j, contact the bass doc (member on here) and ask about the mods, he will be able to sort you a direct replacement for the scratchplate with the correct cutout for the precision pickup, he might be able to supply a pickup from his stash as well, Depending what the body is like you might not need to rout it out to get the new pickup to fit, if it does need wood cut out then the bass doc could do that too, i know that he converted a 5 string jazz to a 5 string p/j so a 4 should be no problem. your biggest problem is deciding which jazz you want! but buying from the basschat marketplace would be my recommendation. Matt
8. i'm the muppet in the green howies t-shirt. i'm sure there's a picture of me actually holding a bass somewhere!
9. i did run a search on the amps and cabs for sale forum before i posted. if i didn't have the midgets i would have had this myself! Matt
10. Just spotted this on gumtree, top deal for anyone wanting to jusmp the queue and save a few quid! http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/barefaced-bass-super-15-bass-cab/1031458377 Matt
11. i think i'm pretty lucky, my wife has let me buy a fair amount of gear over the 5 years we've been married, i've asked every time and the usual reply is "have you got room for it?" i've sold and traded a few along the way to make way for new kit with the exception of the last acoustic guitar i bought which actually came into the house because it's owner was going to Africa for a year and didn't want it going into storage, when they got back i was so enthusiastic about how nice it was that they offered to sell it to me as they were moving to africa long term! i have just agreed the purchase of a piano though as i promised to buy one for my wife before we were married and we've finally seen one that she likes (and i've actually really been trying as well!) and i've promised her a saxaphone when she gets her chartered engineer status as she's always wanted to play (tried to learn when she was a kid but the school had too many sax players so she ended up playing the oboe.) Matt
12. i got as far as buying a 120mm pc fan and thinking about fitting it over the top of the casing (with the extra case removed) but i gave up in the end and bought a different head, i loved the sound it gave and the preamp was great but mine started the classic superfly squeal through one output first then through the other as well so i bought something different. sorry if this isn't any help! Matt
13. I've just put the concrete bass on the bathroom scales and it comes on at 16 pounds 3ounces. For a standard scale 4 string bass. Matt
14. i might have a contender for both, my letts 5-string is 7.5lb and i currently have posession of a concrete bass which those at the north east bass bash will have seen yesterday, i've not weighed it but the general opinion was b*^%£y heavy! Matt
15.
Or the A19 and Tyne Tunnel.
yup if you're heading from that side of the central motorway then it will be worth paying the toll for the tunnel. (i'm coming from Fenham so the tunnel is a very looong way round) i'm still planning on making a tray of brownies to share as well. Matt
16. a quick warning for anyone who was thinking of using the central motorway/tyne bridge on sunday to get to the Bash, it's going to be closed south/east bound from Cow Hill (morrisons roundabout) to the Tyne bridge on Sunday morning (till 1pm they say) the diversions will be fairly pathetic from experience so it's worth taking a different route. personally i'll be using the Redheugh bridge and along the tyne on the south side. 17.
Are you near London? There's a big BassBash in three weeks where you'd be able to try half the amps in Christendom ...
or are you in the north east? there's a bass bash up here this sunday, I'll have barefaced midgets for trial and there will be tks cabs as well which are a smidge heavier but half the price. there will probably be heads from most of the top names there as well. Matt
18. are you anywhere near this? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/212114-south-east-bass-bash-no7-surrey-saturday-21st-september-2013/ i'd imagine that there will be a wide range of Fenders there and as they will be owned by friendly basschatters they should be able to be tried out, there might even be a few for sale! i'd imagine that there would be offerings from other makers there as well that could be tried out/bought. Matt
19. Yeah we're going to take the line out from the guitar amp and then fix it with the software as best we can, if it still sounds bad then we'll rethink and try again. Matt
20. We did consider a studio but we don't play well individually, it's more about the interaction and the live sound, the plan is to set up the gear and record during an extended practice session, we only need to get half a dozen songs down to show that we can actually play. We're a 3 piece band with only one singer and want to keep it very live sounding. We did have a go at this before but suffered from an overloud guitar as we mic'ed it, we're going to use the line out feed this time which should help a fair bit.
21. thanks for that video, looks like a great way of recording drums, i think it might not suit the punky rocky bluesy stuff we're doing right now but it will be perfect for the acoustic folky stuff our guitarist is writing. the se microphones are on my watch list as are the red5audio ones. how good is the red 5 bass drum mic? does it punch above it's price tag or is it just good enough for the 45 or so quid? anyone tried it up against audix/akg/shure? would we be wanting to upgrade after a couple of sessions? i think our drummmer would like something that would work for micing his cajon at acoustic gigs with his other band (probably with the audix i5 on the front as well) Thanks Matt
22. Hello! My band are looking to record some demos mainly to give to local pubs to get some gigs. We've bought a zoom r16 and already own a shure sm58 beta and an akg d5 but we're lacking any drum mics, our plan is to use a 4 Mic setup with a bass drum Mic, a snare Mic and a pair of condenser overheads, but we've got no real idea what mics to go for. We need to keep the overall cost down but would rather not have to upgrade everything if we decide to record some original material at a later date. The current idea is to buy either an audix d6/d4 or an akg d112 for the bass drum and an audix I5 for the snare but the overheads are harder, I guess a max budget of 150 for the pair so I'm thinking that secondhand is probably the way to go. If the mics would be good for acoustic instruments and vocals that would be a bonus. So what do you guys recommend? Matt

I'm a fan of singlecuts, so much so that i bought one! this one will be at the North East Bass Bash if anyone wants a closer look or a bit of a noodle. Matt
24. does anyone have an Aguilar tonehammer 500 amp they could bring along? or a markbass littlemark? I would love to hear some different small heads through the midgets. i'm not sure if the concrete bass will be making anappearance, i've got hold of it but it needs a fair amount of tlc to get it playing and i might be pushed for time before the bash.
25. I'm trying to get hold of a concrete bass that my friends late father built, thought i might get a prize for heaviest bass at the bash.
