1. Just watched it on iPlayer. Stevie Wonder - what a legend. What a songbook. What a rhythm section. What a bass player. Some of the comments on here made my jaw drop.
2. Weight?
3.
No! If it plays like a Fender, sounds, feels and looks like a Fender, then it's either a Fender, or something that's as good as one! It's not as though they are factory-built from inferior materials and sold as something they're not - like some real Fenders!
I was getting more at the fact that he builds pretty close replicas of pre-CBS Fenders. Does he fake (sorry, replicate) stuff like pot codes, neck stamps etc as well - how far does it go? I'm sure there's no deceit intended in the first place but what could potentially happen a few years down the line, once an instruments has changed owners a few times?
4. So the guy puts Fender decals on the headstock, and the bridge on that '56 style is stamped 'Fender'. (Is that an original bridge?) Yet they're not Fender basses. Anyone else has a problem with that?
5.
On the plus side, Rent is not particularly difficult as far as playing basslines goes.
It's not particularly easy either - there's some juicy bits in that pad. Make sure you learn Santa Fe, no sight-reading will help you with that one, it's all in the fingering. Could be a good way to impress the audition panel. Definitely go for it!
6. Hmm... tempting... Do you know the exact weight?
7. Exact weight would be good to know...
8. 34" or 35"? What's the width at the nut?
9. Is this Trans Red? (Hard to make out on the photos.) What's the weight?
10. What's the weight?
11. He's on Sister Act at the Palladium. Fantastic player.
12. Great stuff - looks fantastic! LPB is probably my favourite custom colour. Do you have more pictures? Were V&R able to provide you with some provenance for this instrument?
13. And weight would be good as well...
14. What's the width at the nut?
15. This one doesn't look too shabby... http://www.newkingsroadguitars.co.uk/guita...4_Precbass.html
16. I think there's much to be said for the early EB Rays, from about 1986 to 1990. 4-bolt, lacquered necks. Sound a bit more mellow than the new ones to my ears, especially the 2-bands. They seem to go for far less than the pre-EBs.
17.
The last couple of new ones I played were half finished dogs
Half finished? What do you mean by that?
18. Bridge on a 64 would have threaded saddles not the single-groove ones. Decal also looks like a replacement.
19. No I haven't . What are we talking - 10lbs, 11 lbs?
20. Was it heavy?
21. Try Galli nickels.
22. My sunburst P has a Nov 63 neck date, pots date to early 64. Spaghetti logo, black bobbins & clay dots. Hope that helps.
