  1. My amp tech friend always maintains that when you're asked by a venue for your PAT certificates, you should counter this by asking for their up to date certificate of electrical safety for the venue. Also more stuff here - http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg247.pdf
  2. From ebay (not that I'm suggesting such practice...) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roll-1000-PAT-Test-Testing-PASS-Labels-Non-Rip-40-x-24mm-PASSED-Stickers/111189293839?hash=item19e365fb0f:g:zm8AAOxyDEVSbozG Be careful out there, lot of charlatans around.
  3. From Wiki - In the UK, there is no requirement to have a formal qualification for persons carrying out PAT Testing. The Electricity at Work regulations of 1989 simply state that where required, inspecting and testing must be carried out by a competent person, however does not mention a benchmark for competency. It has become accepted practice, however, for individuals operating as PAT Testers to hold a 2377–22 City and Guilds qualification. PAT Testers in the UK do not need to be electricians or have a background in the electrical industry. An example of a nationally recognised qualification of competence in PAT is offered by City & Guilds: 'Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment – 4th Edition (No. 2377)'.[13] although there are others provided by EAL available.
  4. Nice bass , but not quite sure if this fits the OP's brief again ?
  5. Great link - didn’t realise James played on so many famous albums, including ‘Let’s get it on’ . Thanks for posting.
  6. I got to around 1.40 before cracking up...excellent!
  7. D’Addario Chromes are great for me. Have also used their XL Half Rounds in the past, kind of a half way house between flats and roundwounds.

I use Simple Pure Fine Talc, as it's unfragranced. Mrs CP put some in a jar which I keep in the uke gig bag. If ever I get stopped on the way home from a gig and the police do a search it could be interesting....
  9. Glad I didn't disappoint then...😄
  10. Thought Chic ( and also Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats ) did their best to make it a bit more jolly this week though.
  11. Never been convinced on Bob's supposed affinity with country - think he was given that job after they stopped his other programme, and he maybe decided to embrace it rather than the alternative. ( Haven't heard anyone call it 'country and western' for a while though 🙂 )
  12. Just used a good quality guitar gig bag for mine. May fit a generic guitar hard case like a Gator maybe?

Another +1 for the Countryman. Great preamp and build - tried the Kala and couldn't justify the extra £250+.
  14. Mine was great just as it was really. Heard stories of poor neck joints but mine was solid. Pickups and tuners were enough for me but you may prefer to upgrade - personally don't think the outlay would justify it. Cracking little S/S basses, only sold mine to fund an amp purchase. Black ones cool, have you seen the silver though? 😄
  15. And the madness continues, this time with The Beach Boys. Clips of Brian and some of the band on YouTube saying how wonderful this is etc. Radio 2 currently playing 'Fun fun fun' which is truly vomit inducing IMO. Why can't these be left as the classic recordings they are, and who the feck is buying this garbage?
  16. Your Ashdown cabs will probably be 450 watts (4x10) and 200 for the 2x10 making 650 total handling. The GK head will give 300 watts into 4 ohms ( your two cabs combined) so I really don't think you need to worry on that score unless you are really hammering the rig. Let your ears be your guide - if it sounds like they are farting out then maybe look at upgrading, but using both cabs shouldn't create problems otherwise. I have a GK Backline 300, and it sounds very close to my GK1001RB, both tonally and output wise! Great amps for the money.
  17. JV first series currently on ebay for 2350 English pounds - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-JV-Squier-Series-Jazz-Bass-Fender-logo-full-size-Squier-Series-small/273066974614?hash=item3f940f5d96:g:ZUgAAOSw9NBaggUH
  18. Call any of our crew 'roadies' and you'd get said manual shoved somewhere I couldn't possibly mention here 😂
  19. Not a massive GJ fan, but love this. Our sound guy uses this to soundcheck the PA, sounds awesome loud!
  20. Agreed, although for me carting a Precision around into bars / restaurants in the few hours before a show just isn't practical.
  21. Some great basses mentioned here, although not sure if they all meet with the OP’s requirements regarding weight and budget?
  22. Also forgot to mention the Fender Precision Special - MIM, PJ pickups and narrow jazz width neck. Current/ recent models are active but the first ones if you can find one were passive. Again, s/h your best bet, around the £400 mark.
  23. A Fender Precision Lyte May do the job - sort of scaled down Precisiony body, PJ pickups ( albeit with active preamp) and as light as a light thing. Mine is around 7lbs and has saved me from making a shoulder injury a problem, and long sets are so much easier too. Made in Japan from late 80’s to late 90’s ,they are well made basses that sound fine but can be easily modded to a passive if that’s your thing. Often come up s/h for around £350 upwards and are a well kept secret / well worth it IMHO.
