  1. One thing worse than an EC gig? A snooker tournament..............
  2. Years ago I managed to get tickets to see Eric Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall, in a lower tier box. Eric came on to do some acoustic stuff as an opener, but the corporate do in the next box along almost drowned him out. I asked them to keep it down, and am sure most of them didn't even know who EC was and realise he was performing then.
  3. Whilst this probably goes on, I don't think the Fender strings pictured by the OP are fake, just updated spec and packaging. I heard (I think on here) that Elixirs are the most chosen brand to knock off, presumably due to their higher r.r.p. & hence more profit for the fakers.
  4. Absolutely, couldn't agree more!
  5. Okay, time for something a bit more soulful. Great song from an ace band.
  6. I've experimented (in a very unscientific way) with having my GK Neo 410 both directly on the stage and also leaving it in the base of it's flight case i.e. on castors. Don't know if it's because I've had years of doing it but I always prefer the sound of it not on wheels. Of course , different stages can affect this massively, but I do like that resonance for some reason. Auralex & other isolation products / cabinet stands etc do have a lot of love on here though, so I may be in the minority on this one?
  7. Many years ago at a rather dodgy northern nightclub , we found a dart in the wall just between me and the drummer that someone in the audience had thrown during our last set.
  8. Been buying Fender strings for over a year now. They have all been the same as yours in the pic, and came from an authorized dealer. Fender have rejigged the packaging recently, that's all. They used this packaging prior to yours, far as I know the strings haven't changed for a while now.
  9. Great drummer, and not a bad singer too - remember seeing him with Paul McCartney doing some nifty BV's.
  10. This ^^^ Just don't get why they waste their money to be honest. Just like the same people videoing it on their phones, I reckon a lot of people just go to gigs to say (and brag) they've been rather than enjoy the moment / event. There's definitely a new generation of people who can't concentrate on anything for very long, or stand not using their phones for more than a few minutes. Looks like Jack White thought the same too - . https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/jack-white-phone-ban-gigs-shows-concert-white-stripes-experience-mobile-cell-hand-in-a8175986.html
  11. Apparently she asked for Cliff Richard!
  12. Just read this, sounds interesting. https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-bbc-is-letting-you-download-more-than-16000-free-sound-effect-samples-from-its-archive?utm_source=Adestra&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=22495&utm_term=1272076&utm_content=390112
  13. BBC4 seem to be having a Latin evening tonight. At 9pm there is 'Buena Vista Social Club', which if you haven't seen it is a wonderful film, directed by Wim Wenders and featuring some amazing Cuban musicians including bassist Orlando Lopez. Ry Cooder was involved in the production too, and plays on some songs.
  14. I think since the old named 'rhythm' and 'lead' players gradually morphed into being 'guitarists' there has been a steady decline in the importance of being able to play chordal parts/non solos at the right tempo. We auditioned for guitarists for a band a few years ago, and out of maybe 8 players, only 2 or 3 could play the songs properly all the way through and in time. The others fudged around the chords and the tempo until the solo and then thought they'd impress us by playing it overly distorted/widdly and loud. Needless to say they didn't get the gig.
  15. The clip on / pedal / rack tuner debate is alive and well then?!! I used to have a rack tuner, but in some instances when using a house DI box before the amp it meant manually muting my amp in order to tune. The children's clip on device means I can accurately tune my bass anywhere, with no cabling and no problem muting anything (other than remembering to turn the bass down which I occasionally forget....) Must admit to liking the stealth D'Addario one above though ^^^
  16. If you're using Tuff Cab paint, I've found the best results to be had are by using a textured roller rather than a brush. Great product IMO. http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=TUFFCAB1_BK&browsemode=manufacturer
  17. Me too. My child's clip on tuner does a good job for me thanks. Keeps me in tune and doesn't affect the tone at all.
  18. Another one here. Don’t even like using a pedal tuner (more cables to affect the signal etc).
  19. Haven't seen that one before! I always remove my clip on before packing the bass into the gig bag or case to prevent damage. Also some can be easy to knock into the 'on' position and run the battery down.
  20. Me too. Only problem I ever encounter with clip ons is when tuning a semi or fully acoustic bass / guitar whilst there's a lot of noise going on. On a solid bass mine is 100% every time whatever the environment.
  21. Free delivery on this one, still silver though....... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TC-Electronic-UniTune-Clip-Clip-on-Guitar-Tuner-/352266002982

  23. Probably because it makes them lots of dosh, they might still enjoy it, and it's all they've ever known?
  24. I keep a log of string changes (OCD or what....) and mine work out at around 2 monthly intervals too, after which I feel they've had their best. If funds allowed I would definitely change them more often . Interestingly, the EXL's on my Dano Longhorn don't get changed as often as my Fender. Think it's because the 'deadness' of the older strings seems to suit the instrument / band more. Quite handy as the short scale ones are often harder to obtain / more expensive than the regular EXL's. Have thought about some flats for it too at some point.
