1. I have just put a Hotrod Thumper in my self-build precision bass and it is so much quieter than all my other precisions, I have six to compare it to and it is definitely lacking, although I do love to tone! Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problem with the Thumper.
2. Thanks for all the great tips/ideas on how to tackle this irritation, but I feel I must point out that there is no way I am going to fall out or walk away because of it, even if it does wind me up, he's my mate, a good mate! and even good mates piss you off every now and then, and as people have mentioned, I can, and do warm up silently, but it would be nice to be able to hear myself so I can adjust settings etc to get my tone right. So yes, in an ideal world, he would be more considerate, but at the end of the day, it's taken me many years to find a guitarist who is not only very good, and have similar musical tastes and ideas, but above all, he is a very decent bloke apart from this minor irritation. TBH, I did not start the thread to have a real bash at him, it was just intended to be a bit of a light-hearted rant really, and wondered if others had similar problems with guitarists.
3.
Yeah the Jazz guy is scarily good, major major chops. But at the same time I feel like their can't really be a true winner when you have several great players from such different styles. Once you get to some of their levels (not really the rock guy) it goes past comparing their skill to comparing the genres and styles, which of course isnt a competition.
+1 I couldn't agree more, which is why I made the point earlier, how can you have just one winner from the combined styles of Jazz, Rock, Classical and Acoustic?
4. Ok, 1st Jazz player 2nd Classical player 3rd Percussive/Acoustic player 4th Rock player What does everyone else think?
5. Thankfully, we don't have any problems at gigs, I have told him he has to cut out all the noodling between songs etc.. and he seems to have taken that on board, its just at rehearsals where he is an annoying *******!!!
6. It wouldn't surprise me, like I said earlier, he is good for a 13 year old, but he was the weakest in his category, IMO
7. All good tips folks, I might just put a few of them into practise next rehearsal.
8.
Actually, thinking about it, when I warm up at a rehearsal I do it in silence. Don't need any volume to warm my hands up! Drummers always banging things and guitarist is setting his effects so I just do some scales in silence.
I do try warm up a bit in silence, like you say, scales etc.. but when you have about 50watts of valve amp blasting away in a small rehearsal room, it's can be very distracting to say the least.
9.
Either he's got to go, or you have.
Trouble is we are good mates and our musical tastes and ideas are very similar, so I think we will be playing music together for some time. I've told him many times about it, but it makes no difference!
10.
Get a headphone amp, like the Vox Amplug, and noodle away to your heart's content....
I have GB Shuttle 9.2 head with a headphone socket, but I would still hear him even with the headphones on!
11. I get so frustrated at rehearsals because I never get the chance to warm up and actually hear myself. Once the guitarist plugs in and starts thrashing away at high volume and without any thought for others, that's the end of it, even the drummer gives me a defeatist look, and we both just sit down and wait until everyone is ready and we go straight in to the songs, and of course it's the same between numbers when we want to discuss something, and nobody can hear whats being said due to the bloody guitard playing away! Is it just me?
12. Watched them all so far with great interest, once we got past the auditioning stage where you had the normal "not so good" players being a subject of some amusement, it has been whittled down to some really brilliant guitarists in their various styles, and this is where I have a problem with it, how can you have just one winner from the combined styles of Jazz, Rock, Classical and Acoustic? Last night a thirteen year old rock guitarist who is pretty good for his age, but more of a showman IMO, won his section and now has to compete with a brilliant jazz guitarist, a brilliant classical guitarist and a very decent acoustic guitarist, how on earth can you compare them fairly, they are ALL good in their own right, but for me, the jazz and classical guys were far superior in every way.
13. Ordered a wiring harness for a precision bass yesterday, received it TODAY (next day), could not ask for better service, and great communication throughout! Cheerz John.

15. Absolutely beautiful!!! And I will say it in English, "how the f**k could you prop up such a valuable bass like that?
16.
maybe that was why, misrepresentation
You could well be right.
17. A bunch of footballers and myself who were bedroom musicians at the time, played an awful version of Browned Eyed Girl at our presentation night a few years ago just for a laugh. I uploaded the video to YouTube a couple of days later just so people could relive the moment, but within a few hours of doing so, I received an email from Van Morrison's management stating that they will take legal action if I did not remove it immediately.
18.
The FFS key's is the chap from Sparks. He has been looking like that for years.
Ron Mael on keys, and his brother Russell Mael was the older of the two vocalists, apparently, FFS stands for Franz Ferdinand and Sparks.
19. Thanks Tom, I love the Fender USA 60th Anniversary Precision, it was a pleasure to do business with you, and great communication too. Regards Brian
