1. I have to agree with dmccombe7, I think there are too many sub-sections as well, I tend to just look at a couple of them at most.
 2. I still enjoy BC and will continue to log in to it most days, but I really don't understand why people get so upset by people who have opinions that are different to theirs, and start arguing and insulting them personally.
 3. I posted this a couple of days ago on the "Rickenbacker" thread, and maybe this is contributing to why some people are not posting so much nowadays. "What is happening to BC lately, there seems to be so much anger on it these days".
 4.
It's a fair question. I bought it more than 20 years ago the same way people buy basses on this forum. There always isn't an opportunity to try an instrument before purchase. I recommend anyone thinking of buying one to try one.
Fair enough, I've bought basses without trying too, luckily, I've had some good ones.
 5.
A question to the OP When you spent all that money on the Rickenbacker, did you actually try it out first, and if you did, did you not notice the "horrible tone and lack versatility" at the time? because if it really was as bad as you say (and I don't disbelieve you), why on earth did you buy it? Please don't think I'm starting an argument with you, I'm just curious.
And I'm still waiting to hear why he bought it in the first place, seeing as it was so bad.

 7. RRP £69.99 but this totally useless guitar can be yours for the bargain price of £32 http://www.ebay.co.u...=item51cdf8db06
 8.
Question, who uses and pays for rehearsal space, pros, musicians on the road, younger musicians living in apartments with no attic or basement? I have never played in a band that didn't rehearse in one of the members basement. Is that unusual? Blue Our rehearsal space. Blue
Basement? you wont find many basements in the "little old UK" Blue! Unfortunately, most of us have to hire rehearsal studios to have a full session together.
 9. What is happening to BC lately, there seems to be so much anger on it these days.
 10. The OP was talking budget mics, and as I said earlier, I could hear no discernible difference between the Behringer and teh Shures, I was skeptical about them when I bought the first set, but once I started using them, I immediately sent off for another set. For me, and a lot of other people on here, they are very good mics for the money. It really depends on the OP's funds, we all have different budgets and needs, some people buy Wals and other high-end basses, while others are perfectly happy with Squiers and the like.
 11.
Just ordered the 3 pack of behringers xm1800s for £29.00 including case and free delivery. Cant beat that and also some great reviews on amazon as well as here. Cheers guys
You wont regret in Bonzodog. They include the three mic stand adapter clips that are worth £10/£12 on their own, and they all fit nicely into a neat little case.
 12.
The packet of three Behringers are the XM1800S - don't know how they compare to the XM5800 but we have them and have used them as the main vocal mics with no problem. £32 for the three. http://www.amazon.co...y/dp/B000NJ2TIE
+1 I have TWO packs of these which I use with my Zoom R16 recorder, I have compared them side by side with my Shure SM57 and SM58 with vocals and instruments including my acoustic guitars, and the is no noticeable difference that I can hear, they are as sturdy and reliable as the Shures, so if you can get past the name, you wont regret spending between £25 - £30 for THREE of these superb mics. Unbelievable value at less than a tenner each!!! Behringer XM1800S Dynamic Mic 3-Pack https://www.soundbas...n_IJBoCq2zw_wcB http://www.dv247.com...e-3-pack--15816

 14. Could it be the undercover policeman from Allo Allo who is selling this? "Gid Moaning, I was pissing by the door, when I heard two shats, you are holding in your hand a smoking goon, you are clearly the guilty potty!"
 15.
I've had the five-string version of this bridge on my bass for several years and it's been fine. My only minor grumble is that the through-bridge string holes are too small for most B-strings and needed to be drilled out a little larger. Is the chrome on the Gotoh slightly nicer looking, or do they just have better photography?
Just placed them side by side, absolutely no difference in the finish at all. On double checking, the cheaper one is probably a gnat's whatsit narrower at the end where the strings go through, but it really is only very slightly narrower, and wouldn't make any difference to sound and performance IMO.
 16.
i have the one on the left (the chunkier one) on a fretless squiervmJ - the extra thickness of the base plate and the saddles meant that it couldnt be lowered sufficiently on the grub screws to a satisfactory reasonable action height without shimming so instead i channeled out a shallow pocket to drop the base plate so the surface of the base plate sits flush with the surface of the body - that was with a fretless neck but even allowing the hight of frets on a fretted neck the saddles would be all the way down to their minimum height with grub screws protruding unless of course you fitted shorter grub screws hope this helps im usually averse to brand naming too but the gotoh on the chunky bridge isnt really all that readable/visible unless you have a punter in the audience with a telescope in which case you could just move about it to stop him/her focussing for any length of time which might be adequate to scrutinise your hardware choices
I have both, and I placed them side by side, the Gotoh is not chunkier, they are both the same, I think the pics makes the Gotoh look chunkier, but believe me, they are not. I've used at least five Gotoh's in the past, and never had a problem with the base plate being too thick.
 17.
I have always favoured the 203 but that's because I have an aversion to accessories with names on (Seymour Duncan Basslines etc). No logic to it I accept but that's what makes me so loveable. ;-)
Fair enough, but £50 with a name stamped on it, or £13.95 + free P&P no name, but with string-through option?
 18. Just thought this might of interest to some. I have put together quite a few custom basses over the past few years, mostly precisions and jazzes, and I've nearly always favoured Gotoh 201 bridges which I think are excellent, but just recently I bought a Squier VM precision off eBay for a giveaway price and thought I would upgrade the bridge, but I didn't want to spend £50 on a Gotoh 201 which would be half of what I paid for the bass, so I hunted around for something cheaper and found this at Northwest Guitar Parts. http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I studied the pics and thought that it looked very similar to a Gotoh, and at £13.95 and free P&P, it had to be worth a punt. A couple of days later it arrived, and it is virtually identical, but with the advantage of being string-through as well, it's very well made, (apparently in the Wilkinson factory) and an absolute bargain IMO, I will be definitely be using these from now on. Here's a picture comparison, I have both in my possession, and there really is hardly any difference between the two.
 19.
singles? Sorry, I'm a little lost now
Me too!
 20. I took Gary's '75 P bass off him recently, top guy, great communication, a pleasure to do business with.
 21. I love the sound and the energy of the band, but the singers voice is just too much for me I'm afraid. Get a good frontman who can really sing, and you would certainly be a band that I would like to see.
 22.
So I must be going through a premature mid life crisis of something of that nature... After many years of pent up GAS (pardon the pun)... I think I've reached nirvana, if that's possible... I spent years gathering a nice little collection of pre ernie ball basses (started when I saw Simon Gallup in Orange), but have now just wittled down to two! and Ampeg rigs (hats off to Gene). Only to realise that there were so many other Amps & cabs that I hadn't tried... And so the Gear Acquisition Syndrome kicked in... From H&H to Trace Elliott to Hevos to Genz Benz and everything in between... Any who to cut a long storey short... Right back where I started again... Ampeg all the way...
Please come back to us in a year's time and tell us you are still "gas free", I'd be surprised if you are!!!
