1. I'm curious to know how the stats alongside threads/topics work on here. For example, a couple of hours ago I put three "wanted" adverts in the "items wanted" section, and although the stats say that I have had no replies and no views, in actual fact, I have had personal replies to two of them already, so people are viewing them even though the stats say otherwise.

 5. Hi Do you still have the Hipshot BT8 for sale? Cheers Brian
 6.
This seems to have regressed into a 'covers vs originals' thing again. I like both - there are good bands and bad bands. I do find the attitude of some of the guys who play in originals bands a teensy bit smug and condescending, though. No need for it, really. If you find yourself in an originals band that flicks your switch then well done you. But 99.99% of originals bands I have seen or heard fall short of the mark as far as my tastes are concerned. I'd rather watch a good covers band like that in the OP than a second rate originals. No question.
Totally agree with all this.
 7.
It's on the iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk..._Train_A_Comin/
Yep, I will catch the second half later today.
 8. I set the recorder on Tuesday and went to bed. Watched it last night, and it finished half-way through the programme. I forgot to adjust the clock to winter time, and of course it started recording early!
 9. What will happen to the Genz Benz 3 year warrenties, and who do you contact?
 10.
School bass. Are you kidding? I wanted to do o level music but as only one other person wanted to we couldn't Music lessons were a balding middle aged bloke trying to engage teenagers in 1975 by playing Shadows albums on the education authority style record player which we could make jump by stamping on the floor when he turned his back to draw a crotchet on the blackboard.
The Shadows? I would have loved to have been able to listen to artists as modern as them in our music lessons! We were made to listen to composers such as Bach, Mozart, Brahms, etc.. Yes, I know they were great composers, but being a teenager at school when The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, etc, were just starting to hit the music scene, classical music was the last thing us 60's kids wanted to listen to. As for the school band? no chance for kids like me, only the posh kids who had their own cello's, wind instruments, or were lucky enough to have had piano lessons got anywhere near it, and of course, it was all classical stuff anyway, so of no interest to most of us. To be quite honest, I think that our music teacher just wanted to have an easy time, he would put on a classical record, sit at his desk with his eyes closed obviously chilling to the music for the full 30 minutes, he never taught us anything about reading or understanding music in any way.
 11. I was YouTubing Wudtone guitar finishes, and in the column next to it, I noticed this video. I know it's not bass related, but like most of the comments on YouTube, I think it's really creepy that kids so young, can play so well! Please forgive me if this video has been shown before. 13.
The Yamaha DTX kit was @ £3-400 2nd hand. Through a decent PA, this sounded pretty good. But then he's a really good drummer & can even make the kitchen pans sound awesome.
It would seem that my mate has got himself a pretty decent kit then? I'm looking forward to hearing it.
 14.
I play with a drummer that uses a Jo Becky kit which looks like a normal kit but you can control the volume for smaller venues, once you factor in the cost of the kit plus the top end processor and a good pa I'm not so keen, as a bass player I don't really enjoy trying to lock in to the sound coming from the foh either.
This is all new to me, but wouldn't the drummer have a monitor next to the kit, so that the band can hear the drums from behind them? Please excuse me if that's a daft question!
 15. How much do you have to pay for a half decent kit, as my drummer mate has just bought a Yamaha electric kit for just under £2,000, would that do a good job?
 16.
At this stage, I'm unclear about whether band leader meant 200 songs before we start gigging (ha! - fat chance) or 200 songs somewhere/sometime down the line (and even that would take virtually constant rehearsing), or whether he was trying to make some sort of statement and/or gauge reaction. As I said, it's a brand new band and I'm trying hard to keep my opinions to myself, turn up on time, play the bass and go home. Personally, I don't need or want a full-time pro wedding band and I can afford to tag along for the ride for the time being. At the vey least it gets me out and playing with people rather than YouTube. We'll see how it pans out over the next couple of months but I will keep on checking the usual "Bassist needed" websites.
How come you don't know whether he wants you to learn 200 songs before you start gigging, why did you not ask him? Just because it's a brand new band, doesn't mean you shouldn't have an opinion, or ask questions, quite the oposite really, if you don't really think that his request to learn 200 songs is reasonable, then you should say so, and if he still says that's what he wants, then is this really the right band for you? if the answer is no, then be fair to him and tell him straight, so he can find another bass player who is happy with the situation. I have to admit that I wouldn't want to learn 200 songs either, but he has been upfront with you, and if you don't like it you should move on, not hang around until you find another band, which by what you are saying, is what you are doing. This might sound harsh, but it's obvious that he wants to earn a living from the band, whether he will or not is questionable, but he would have a better chance of doing so, if all the band members were committed.
 17. Met Geoff this morning to hand over my Barefaced S12, and although I was sad to see it go, I know it will be well looked after and much appreciated! Buy or sell with confidence, Geoff is a top guy! All the best mate.
 18.
Brian How about I bring my Compact up with me tomorrow, just so you can get an idea/feel for the size and weight? Just a thought. Cheers Geoff
If you don't mind Geoff, although I really don't know whether I will continue playing after the move, but it would give me chance to see one in the flesh, all the other brands I can get to see in the shops. See you in the morning. Cheers Brian
 19. Thanks for all the comments so far BC'ers. Yes the S12 is now sold, to be quite honest, as much as I liked it and it is quite light, I actually found it a bit bulky, which made it difficult for me to lug around with my back problem, I had a Genz Benz Shuttle 2x10 cab before, it was much smaller and lighter, and easy to pick up in one hand, but I sold it because I thought the S12 wouldn't be much different, but it is unfortunately. Now that I will be moving sometime in the near future, I don't know whether I will play again, but if I do, I will definitely need something more manageable, because if I'm struggling now, I dread to think what I will be like in a few years time. So being forever optimistic, I thought I would start this thread so that I can start waying up the options and build up some GAS, just in case I do find a band in my new home town. As for the Streamliner, I'm holding on to it for now.
 20.
http://www.lemonrock.com/defunkt We are at The Lord Haig, kicks off about 9. If you do get there, make sure to come and say hello. Its always good to catch up with Bass Chatters.
I know The Lord Haig, I've been there a few times, if I can get over I will certainly say hello thats for sure.
 21. Ordered the loom for my P bass yesterday, arrived this morning. Great service! Thanks John
 22. I've just checked their website, and the evening rates for studios 1, 2, 3 & 5 are £16 per hour and studio 4 is £18.50 which should have been £74 for four hours, you payed £54 so it looks like you got away with it.
 23.
I play mostly pub gigs, plus a few social clubs. Genz Benz Shuttle 6 in to two markbass 2 x 10"'s. Works really well for me. Mix of rock, soul, pop, funk, with Fender P or G&L SB1 Prior to this set up I was using Trace, awesome sound & awesome weight. Playing in Hertford this saturday if you want to check out the rig.
Where, and whats the name of your band? I might just do that.
 24.
Seriously mate, we need to know more. What rig would it be replacing? What sort of bass do you favour? What sort of music? I could offer a suggested micro-rig right now (Gallien-Krueger MB500 into Barefaced Midget) and that would do a job for me. Whether it would do that job for you, too ... who knows?
I am selling my Barefaced Super Twelve and Genz Benz Streamliner 9.0, but will be keeping my American Standard Precision. Probably playing all the usual pub-fayre, classic rock, blues, etc..
 25. I know almost nothing about amps/power/wattage etc.. so could you keep any answers reasonably simple, so someone like me can understand please? I am in the process of selling my rig because I am moving soon, and I'm not sure if I will continue playing, but if I do find a band in the nice little town that I am moving to, we will almost certainly only be playing the local pub circuit, where most of the pubs will be no more than average size. I'm not getting any younger, and I am now suffering with incurable back problems, so I want to keep my new rig as light and as portable as possible, so what would you more knowledgeable people recommend? I want to have enough power to not have to go through a PA, but I want my rig to be light and portable. Thanks in advance.
