1. Final Reduction to £525 If it doesn't sell for this silly price, then I keep it!
2. To update you all, I have playing around more with the amp settings today, and I think that I must have been setting everything too wooly in the first place, I have tried different settings to get a more clangy sound, and now the tone pot is actually coming into play giving me far more range. Thanks for all the great advice everybody, and the kind offers from some BC'ers to help sort the problem personally.
3. A few people have suggested that it might be wired incorrectly, and I have checked it against wiring diagrams, and it all appears to be correct. Now without wishing to turn my thread into a anti-Fender bashing, how could instruments costing £1,000+ be allowed to leave the factory incorrectly wired? I've heard some unfavourable stories about Fender's QC, but does this actually happen?
4.
are you near anyone else with a similar p-bass from on here? coffee, chat, a-b the basses??
Thanks Andy, but I have had a couple of precisions over the years, MIM, Squier and now the MIA, and they all seem to have a similar problem, although I would say the MIM probably had the biggest range, although not great. The two Warmoth 54's I put together with Lollars, CTS250 pots, and PIO capacitor 0.047uF, have far more range.
5.
I've got a cheap P-bass copy that had the same problem - the tone pot never seemed to do anything. I had a look under the scratchplate and it turned out the pot wasn't wired up! So that'd be the first place I'd look...
I've checked it against wiring diagrams and everything is definitely wired up correctly.
6.
Dead strings?
Brand new strings, and I change them regularly, so it definitely seems that I have a problem, but then so do many others who have responded so far, and at a guess, I would say it's about 50/50 with some of you getting a full range, and others getting hardly any range at all. Odd!
7. I am going directly into the amp, no DI involved. The tone control definitely works, as it goes from wooly to slightly less wooly, but it definitely doesn't go clangy, which I feel is should at least start aproaching it, and like molan stated, I tend to have it either closed or fully open, because like him, there is nothing in between either. I absolutely love the bass, I got real lucky with it, and I certainly don't want to start messing with it in any way other than maybe a cap change. It does sound great, but it would be nice just to have a bit more tonal range for different situations.
8. Those of you who are gettng a lot of range, have they been modified in any way? I can understand how "same woods" can sound different, but I just don't understand how "same electrics" can sound so different.
9. It has one of the usual orange caps in there, the pots are 250's which compared to other precisions that I've had in the past, seem to be the norm. And none of those had much range either.
10. Right, I've now gone full circle, I started off with a precision, and then I tried almost every other bass you can think of, before coming back to a precision. For me, it just feels right, and most of the time it sounds right, but is it just me, why do I hear very little difference when using the tone knob? As I said, most of the time its cuts through nicely, but it would be great if I could get just a little bit more variation in tone, so is there anything that can be done to make the tone pot do more? I'm not really that clued up on the electrics side of things, and I definitely don't want to go active, so I was wondering whether a different capacitor or whatever would make a difference? My bass is a Fender American Standard 2008.
11. But how can you retire after such an experience, surely you want more?
12. It would seem that most of us work on shift one out, bring one in basis, but in all honesty, I bet most of us usually ship out a bass that's only worth a fraction of the new one, but as far as the boss is concerned, she wouldn't know their true values, so we normally get away with it.
13. I am still wearing clothes that I bought four or five years ago, don't get me wrong, they are all well looked after, washed and ironed etc regularly, and they look fine. Whereas, Mrs Brig will buy something new at least once a month costing on average £70/80 and think nothing of it, so a years worth of clothes for her, is the equivilent of me spending £900/1000 on a new bass every year.
14. BAREFACED SUPER TWELVE As I'm moving soon, I really do need to sell this, so I have decided to drop the price to £525 I wont go any lower so please don't ask, and if it doesn't go, then I will take it with me. The cab is in excellent condition and has only been used for one gig, and a few rehearsals. You are welcome to come and try the cab out. Cash on collection preferred, but I would ship providing the buyer meets the costs. I might consider delivering locally, or maybe up to a couple of hours drive away for fuel costs.
15. GENZ BENZ STREAMLINER 9.0 In excellent condition apart from some of the writing on the back has worn off a bit, which is due to taking it in and out of the case. I have reduced it to £425 which includes the official Genz Benz carry bag that cost over £50 I'm moving soon, so if it doesn't sell, then I take it with me. You are welcome to come and try it out. Cash on collection would be preferred, but I would be willing to ship, providing the buyer doesn't mind paying the cost. I might deliver locally, or a couple of hours drive away for fuel costs. I have decided to hold on to the amp!
16. Great communication, instant payment, and a pleasure to do business with CamdenRob. Kindest Regards thebrig
17.
Just to clarify I don't mean to sound mean, my comment was a bit like, it's good but could be better. I'm sure those guys will grow up to be pretty talented musos.
I think they are already talented, and they do what they do really well. It's sharp and to the point, I love it!
18. They were signed to Elton John's Rocket Music Management, who said "They have a knowledge of R&B and blues at 16 years of age that I have only amassed in my 65 years. They're just like a breath of fresh air." Personally, I think they are great, and I'm the wrong side of sixty. On their album Snapshot, they wrote nine of the twelve songs, so not bad for kids so young. Here's Blue Collar Jane which was penned by them. As for the way they dress? It's nothing new, bands have been manufactured for years, just take a look at the pics below.
19. This sort of thing should not be allowed! I thought I had gotten over my latest case of severe GAS, and now it's started all over again. Please remove before I'm tempted to spend money I can't afford!
20. I had a Ibanez SR500 a few years ago and I had La Bella flats on it, and it sounded awsome! And being active, you can really play around with the sounds you can get from it. I did try out a lot of different brands before settling on La Bella, they ain't cheap, but they are great strings, and you never really need to change them, I had the same set on for years, so in the long run they probably work out cheaper than rounds. I have now moved on to an Ibanez SR1200 which I absolutely love, I think a lot of people overlook Ibanez in their pursuit for the usual precision/jazz/stingray etc.. which are all fantastic basses I might add, but the craftsmanship, build quality and playability of Ibanez is far superior for less money IMO.
21.
Hi there, How old is the streamliner and where are you based please, i am V interested
The Streamliner is 14 months old, and I am based in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.
22. Up for sale is me Genz Benz Streamliner 9.0 and Barefaced Super Twelve. I am looking for £925 for the pair, but I do have them listed seperately as well. I asking £425 for the Streamliner 9.0, and £525 for the Super Twelve. Only been used at home and rehearsals, due to not having a regular band, but I used it for the first time on Saturday night at a charity gig, and it sounded great, and the bassist from one of the other bands used it as well, and he said it was far better than his own rig. In case you are wondering, I really like the rig, but I'm selling it because I'm moving up to Shropshire very soon, and I don't know if I will continue playing, but if I do, I will sort out a new rig at the time. Please PM me if you are interested in grabbing hold of a great sounding rig. Edit: The Streamliner comes with the Genz Benz Gig Bag. Some of the writing on the back of the amp is wearing off, which I think is caused by taking it in and out of the carry case, I have tried to show it in one of the pics, but obviously this makes no difference to the performance of the amp. You are welcome to come and try them out. Collection would be preferred, but I would ship if the buyer is willing to pay the cost. Or I might deliver locally free, or up to a couple of hours away for the cost of the fuel. Thanks for looking.
23. As old old git, for me "Old School" means 60's/70's, Bad Co, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Stones etc... But I would say go for it, as I can go and see a band playing Brown Sugar, Alright Now, Sweet Home Alabama etc, in a lot of venues every weekend, and although they are all great bands and great songs, I would go and see a band playing your type of material, not because it's my favourite genre, but because it's different, and I enjoy variety when watching live bands. Initially, it might be hard to get gigs, but once you do get on the circuit, and the word goes around about your particular brand of music, a lot of people might start seeking you out, and because you are different, you might find you actully get more gigs!
24.
Think the Gryphon is 40 capacity. Still used a 2x15 and 4x12 for my set.
I hope the man at the back could hear you!
