FOUR BASSIST? I'm intrigued! Please tell me more.
-
I was sent a list of seventeen songs the day before an audition about 9 months ago, and I actually learnt them all reasonably well, only to find out at the audition, that they only knew about 4 or 5 of them themselves!
Sorry if this topic has been mentioned before but I am a relatively newbie. I have played in a few bands over the years and am currently in one and setting up another working covers band. I always seem to be in a minority when it comes to being conscious of how the band looks on stage. I don't mean dancing around (although I do prefer to move a bit rather than stand still). I mean the tidiness of the stage itself and what we wear. I have known fellow band mates in the past leave guitar cases and drum cases littered around the stage and leads end up becoming like a plate of spaghetti. I worked the clubs as a singer for years and it used to annoy me when the club would leave stacks of chairs and tables on the stage and also the dreaded shimmer curtain were always half hanging off so I suppose this is where I am getting it from. Do you think this is an issue or am I being over the top? BTW I am not writing in continuous lines for a reason, my post wont let me start a new line or paragraph for some reason!!
BTW I am not writing in continuous lines for a reason, my post wont let me start a new line or paragraph for some reason!! I thought I had a problem with my computer, as I have the same problem, if I want to start new paragraphs, I have to first write in "notepad" and copy and paste into Basschat. So is this a common problem with Basschat users, or is it my computer?
I play in a band fronted by a harp player. I'll ask him if he knows of anyone in your area & let you know if he does.
Cheers!
Ummm... A harp looks like this What the hell are you guys talking about?
Maybe that's why they are hard to find, can't be much fun lugging one of those around!

The harp player who teaches, has recommended one of his students to us, he lives locally, and he is coming along on the 15th May. I will let you know how it goes.
Hey this is our stuff. This was our gig last night..........
Looks like everyone is having a great time, well done!
I know at least two goodones in Cambridge but they both have no transport!
We had one from Cambridgeshire for a couple of rehearsals, and he was brilliant, but he is a paramedic and unfortunately, he found the travelling too much after a twelve hour shift.
Good point. That said, Brilleaux was a fantastic frontman but no Charlie Musselwhite or Kim Wilson. I'm sure almost anyone could master the harp part for 'Going Back Home' in a month or so. Another option is to do it yourself. Jon Paris, bassplayer with Johnny Winter - playing harp on a neckbrace from 25:14
Our guitarist tried doing this on Wednesday at rehearsal, but unfortunately, he tied himself up in knots trying to play the "Wilko" riffs and harp at the same time.
I think they`re all at home sulking after bands started tuning to Eb to stop them getting up on stage & jamming uninvited On a serious note though, once your band is up & running Brig, keep us informed - would love to see a band doing this type of music, and nice & local for me.
Will do Lozz

Strangely, today I was told by a very well known harp player who also teaches harp, that it takes about three years for a novice to reach intermediate level, so add that to the two years already gone, that's five years just to sort out a harp player.

Tell him to move, it's nice in St Albans!

I know this a bass forum, but I just want to see if any of you wonderful BassChatters can help me. I have spent the past couple of years trying to put together a no-nonsense R & B band, that plays music in the style of Dr Feelgood, The Inmates, The Pirates, Nine Below Zero etc.... Our line-up is a drummer, a great guitarist who plays just like “Wilko”, and myself on bass, but we are having a problem finding a blues harp player, I’ve been advertising on all the usual sites for at least two years now, and the only replies I’ve had, are from people who live a couple of hours drive away. So, I was wondering if any of you guys/gals know of any harp players who might be interested in a band like ours. We are based in and around the St Albans area, and will be looking to gig around Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice, but I have decided to give the paint to my mate who is a panel beater, and one of the guys he works with is going to spray it for me.

I have some tins of cellulose lacquer which I'm going to use in my spray gun. Can anyone recommend the best type of thinner to use, because I'm a bit confused after having a google around, as there seems to be many different opinions, as to what is best.

I'm nervous enough as it is, without the added pressure of videoing myself doing it.
Wow. Can you tell us where? best, bert
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p23498?gclid=CKKT0oDpgbYCFeXLtAodnWMAdA

I've just found a place online that sells 6mm bits that are 400mm long, so I will order one now.

The earth wire hole, from the bridge to the control cavity has been drilled (that would have easier to do). It looks like I will have to go in through the jack socket hole, luckily, it’s a 7/8” hole, which gives me a bit of room to work with, but I will be bricking it as I drill through. And where will I get a 12” wood drill bit?

You guys are brilliant, this post is only a couple of minutes old, and already you have come up with great ideas which should resolve the problem.

I have just received all the parts from Warmoth to build a 54 precision, paid a pretty price, especially with the £116.32 duty added on. Anyway, all the parts look great, beautiful bird’s-eye maple neck, and the body is carved from a very nice piece of alder. I checked to make sure everything was ok, and proceeded to apply my own finish to the body. All was going really nicely, and I was looking forward to putting it all together. I then decided to see how well the Lollar single coil fits into the pickup cavity, and to see if the wires will push through the hole to the control cavity easily enough, but to my horror I noticed that there was no hole. I can’t return it, as I have already started to finish it. So does anyone know how I can drill from the pickup cavity through to the control cavity, and what special tools do I need? I have put a few guitars together in the past, and I am practically minded, but I haven’t got a clue how to do this! I have included a photo indicating what is required.
I really doubt a warmoth bass could ever be that cheap. Remember you have to factor in postage and duty at at least 25%. I imported a bass from the USA which cost £323 on ebay. By the time I got my hands on it, it cost me £510.
The £750 total is including duty and taxes, but if when it's finished, it looks the part, and more importantly, plays and sounds great, then I wouldn't be too concerned about resale value, as I would probably keep it forever.

Has anyone put together a Warmoth bass, or does anyone own one? I keep getting drawn to their website, as I believe their bodies and necks are really top quality, and their finishes are supposed to be fantastic. The bass I have in mind would cost me around £600 with duty and taxes, that's everything including the paint job, except the pickup and tuners, which will probably cost me another £150. So all in all, it would cost me about £750, which is a lot of money for a guitar that I put together myself. I do have a fair bit of experience with self builds, but now I want to start a top quality project. What I want to know is, how good would it be, and how would it compare to a production line bass of similar value?
