[/quote] My first bass was a Burns Sonic too, but with maple board, I paid £15 for it in 1967, and it was already well and truly used, and the paint on the back was almost completely worn away through buckle rash. At a guess, I would say that it had been around for some time, possibly as early as 1960. I swapped it a couple of years later for some fishing tackle, but really wish I still had it now for sentimental reasons.

So all in, it cost me £130, which is a lot, when you consider I only paid around £70 + £5 pp, when I managed to find one over here not so long ago. I have managed to get a jazz body in once 'duty free', but it seems that they hardly let anything in free now, even low-cost items like strings.

I constantly go through the 'basses for sale' section on ebay, but just lately it seems that it's being bombarded to by ads from the states. Does anyone know of a way to filter these ads out?

Go into [i][b]'My Settings'[/b][/i] Click on [b][i]'Manage My Attachments'[/i][/b] Check the [b][i]boxes[/i][/b] alongside the [b][i]pics[/i][/b] Click [b][i]'Delete Selected'[/i][/b] [b][i]Done![/i][/b] [i][b] [/b][/i]

Delete all the photo's you have uploaded that are no longer required. Also, before uploading, open the photo in Paint Shop Pro, or similar photo editing software, and reduce the photo down to 10%, that way it reduces the size of the file, but will expand when clicked on.

[/quote] I think that the knocking is all really "tongue-in-cheek", so I wouldn't take too much notice of it. I must admit that I would love a "roadworn" bass, but personally, I would like it to be genuinely that way. I don't doubt that the "roadworns" are great basses, as so many BC'ers are always singing their praises, so why can't the Mexican factory produce the same instrument without the artificial ageing, as I think that they would appeal to far more people, because I think a lot of people are put off by a brand new instrument looking aged, and if they cut out the aged look, maybe they would be cheaper?

Thanks for the review so far Legoman, looking forward to your thoughts after you've gigged them together. My first proper rig was a Ashdown ABM 575 head, ABM 1x15 & ABM 2x10, which I really liked, although I know many on here, don't really dig the Ashdown sound, which is fair enough, as it definitely has a sound of it's own, and I suppose it's a bit like 'Marmite' really. I had to get shot of it because back and shoulder problems, and I'm now very much on the lightweight route. My Shuttle 6 was a little too clean and polite for me, and so far, having tried the Streamliner through a couple of hired cabs, I think it is closer to the sound I want, I just hope that the Super Twelve will be the perfect match for it.

I took up bass because I thought that it would be easier than playing guitar, and it wasn't until I decided to practise my guitar playing more, that I realised that actually, playing bass is more difficult than playing guitar, well it was for me anyway, as I quickly became quite a competent guitarist, but I would never give up playing bass, I absolutely love it, and my wife thinks the bass is really SEXY!!! I remember the lead guitarist in my old band, who is very talented by the way, played bass at rehearsal on a night I had to cry off due to illness. The following week, he and the rest of the band, all said that they now appreciate just what I do, the guitarist said that he would never be able to play bass in a million years, because you have to feel the music, take notice of what the drummer is doing, and the other guitarist didn't bother listening to anything at all.

[b]Please shoot me down if I'm being stupid here![/b] Jazz and precision necks are interchangeable right? But if you fit a jazz neck to a precision body, surely it wont fit properly. Sure, it will fit where it butts up with body, but as the taper from the body to the nut (38mm) on a jazz, will be different to the taper to the nut of a precision (42mm), wont this create a slight gap from the butt to the 15th or 16th fret, if you understand what I'm trying to say. Am I right, and if so, would it be a noticeable gap?
