1. £7,000 bass reviews? The very reason I stopped my subscription, and following lot's of threads on BC regarding this subject, it looks like BGM has learnt nothing!
2. Every amp that I have purchased in the last few years, have always come with both UK and European leads, it's unusual that yours didn't Lozz. On the subject of power leads, I got a 5 metre lead from Maplins, because it is useful for connecting to those far-away sockets, but it is quite a thin cable, and I was wondering, would this affect the sound in any way, compared to the heavier duty ones that come supplied with the amp? Sorry if this a daft question, but I'm not very clued up of the tech side of things.
3.
I hope you do really big loud gigs, 'cos I have the STM 6 & S12T and that's LOUD!!!
Most of our gigs will be just average size pubs and clubs, but occasionally we play larger venues where it's nice to have a bit in reserve to call on, and that's why I see this as the ideal set-up, as it's light and compact enough for the smaller venues, but when you need a bit more, it's there all in one box!
4.
Paging 'legoman', paging 'legoman'. Someone who is very interested in finding about this particular combination!
It will be at least 6-8 weeks before I can review it I'm afraid!
5.
You'll have a bit of a wait though for the cab I'm afraid..... best thing to do is just forget you've ordered it, otherwise you'll be watching the doorbell like a man obsessed.
It's only about a hour into the wait now, and I'm already checking my emails to see if it's been dispatched yet. Seriously though, you are right, I will just have to put it out of my mind.
6. I've gone and done it, I pulled the trigger on Genz Benz Streamliner 900 (£661 at Nevada Music) on Monday, and received it yesterday (Tuesday). And today (Wednesday) about fifteen minutes ago, I ordered a Barefaced Super Twelve to go with it. I've now started the long countdown to receiving the cab, and I can't wait to link these two beauties together, and shake the sh*t out of our very loud guitarist. Is it really only 20 minutes since I ordered the cab?
7. For sale is my complete Genz Benz rig. It is a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T Combo + Genz Benz 210T Cab which is about 18 months old, in very good condition with minimal wear/marks. It is a top quality rig, but I've just purchased a Genz Benz Streamliner 900, and I'm now considering a Barefaced Super Twelve to go with it, so I need to raise some funds to pay for my new gear. I can carry the whole rig comfortably in both hands, and fits into the smallest of cars, but it still pumps out a lot of volume for it's size, and being a Genz, it sounds great as well. It also includes a 'Hot Covers' padded cover for the Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T Combo, but there is no cover for the Genz Benz 210T Cab though. Cost me £1,500 brand new, and is up for sale at £850. Collection preferred, but would consider shipping, provided the buyer pays the cost. I may consider splitting. I'm based in South Herts, and you are welcome to come and try it first.
8. Mark D Phillips....... (Guitar master-bodger/gluethier) No wonder Princess Anne divorced him!
9. I only started playing about 5 years ago even though I am now 60, I've had a few lessons in that time, and if I could afford it, I would have lessons every week, but at £30 per hour, I really can't afford it. Do tutors really need to charge £30 per hour? after all there is hardly any outlay, as most students usually go to the tutor's house with their own bass, the only expense that I can see, is powering up an amp for 60 minutes or so. Of course, I do realise that there is a lot of prep work for them, and I appreciate that they are passing on many years of hard work and knowledge. Most do a great job, and I know they would make me a much better player, but I can't help wondering if they charged a bit less, maybe they would get more work, and still make some decent money from it. I for one would probably pay £20 per hour, but £30 is just too much I'm afraid. If anyone knows of any decent tutors in the Herts area, who would be happy to give me lessons for £20 per hour, I would certainly be interested.
10.
I dont get it, whats wrong with it?
I must admit that I'm a bit confused by this one too. If a young kid or beginner picks a bass, amp, tuner and stand for £50, and it gets them started, then I see it as a bargain! Or am I missing the point somewhere?
11. In that case, he must be aware of all these threads about him.
12. Did I see on another thread about this guy, that he is actually a BC member?
13.
Just got back off holiday so I'm speed reading 69 pages of threads!! Barefaced get good reviews because they deserve it. If I was looking at BF cabs I'd be checking out the Super12T. But the other thought that I would have is; how good will another GB210 sound? 2 210's sound pretty amazing to my ear.
Hi chris_b, hope you had a good holiday, I'm off on my hols myself tomorrow morning, so I am just trying to gather some ideas for some serious 'gassing' while I'm away. I must admit, that I do like the GB 210 and maybe adding another might be a good idea, although the thought of having just one 4ohm cabinet doing the equivalent of two, is rather appealing.
14. After much thought, I will almost certainly plump for a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 head, as it is supposed to be a bit warmer than the Shuttle. Will this work well with the Super 12, and what other cabs should I consider to get the best out of the Streamliner?
15. The amp is a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T Combo, plus a Genz Benz 210T Cab, so if I do decide to go for a Barefaced cab, I would have to replace the amp as it would be difficult to sell the 112T cab on its own, as the cable comes directly out of the cab for connecting to the head. That's why I am interested to know what heads work well with the Super 12 or Super 15, as I will need to get a new one. Cheers for the input so far.
16.
I'll state from the off that I think that Alex's dedication to his work is to be applauded and I enjoy his insight into acoustics to the point where I'll read (and reread) most any thread that the likes of he or BFM post in. Having made that clear and seeing as you are asking for advice on whether 'others' think that a Barefaced cab will best suit your needs; then I personally don't think that it will. That is based upon the fact that you think that the GB cab that you have lacks 'punch' (a term which I'm sure AC, BFM and many others will say is nonsensical and meaningless) and that you play in a rock/blues band. I've played through several of Alex's cabs and it NEVER ceases to amaze me how light they are and I love them for that, however that is NOT one of your considerations, it is purely the sound of the cab and it's ability to sound full and punchy in a rock/blues setting and I have yet to get the sound that 'I' want out of one of the BF cabs as I always feet that they have plenty of bottom (and top) but lack any punch/heft/weight to the tone. Patently they are not going to suit every person and I am NOT putting Alex's cabs down, they just don't suit me... same as an Ashdown 4x10 sounds pants to my ears! One thing that I do find strange is that you've had a cab on order for 6 weeks and THEN you ask for people's opinions!
I think that you have read my post wrong warwickhunt, where does it say that I have one on order? I just want some opinions as to whether it might suit my needs.
17.
Brig, what sort of venues will you be playing? And to what size of crowd? What's the line-up of your new band - one guitar or two? Do you have keys?
Our line-up consists of: Drums, two guitars, Bass and vocals. The size of the venues varies at the moment as we have only been together a few months, and have only just began to get out there gigging, but so far, we have played three outdoor gigs in front of up to 500 people, and one indoor gig in a fair size music bar. But at the end of the day, we are really just a band playing covers, so most of the time we will be playing pubs and clubs, so I wont always need too much in the way of watts etc, but as the Barefaced Super 12 is lightweight, very portable and is 4 ohms, I thought that it might be the ideal cab to cover all likely situations in the future, without having to take a second cab with me for the larger gigs. The other advantage is, Mrs Brig allows me to store the cab just behind the front door, the second cab would have to go in the loft, which is a lot of hassle every time I need to use it.
18. Ok, I have been following a lot of threads recently, where Barefaced cabs seem to get lots of rave reviews. I am not that technically minded, I know nothing about sine waves, dispersion etc. but what I do know is, I play in a band that plays mainly classic (70's) rock and blues, and I want a cab that will cater for my needs, preferably in one cab (4ohms maybe?), that can handle the full power of the head that I team it up with. I currently play through a Genz Benz shuttle 6.0-12T, plus a Genz Benz STL-210T cab, great rig and ideal for the function band that I used to play in, but now that I am playing in a rock/blues band, I feel I need something with a bit more punch. So my question is, how good are the Barefaced cabs, and what cab would be most suited to my needs, Super 12 or Super 15, and what head works best with these cabs? Thanks in anticipation, of the usual great response from all you more knowledgeable Basschatter's out there.
19. Thanks Lozz, sounds like the VT will be just the job. I think I will take the plunge and buy one, and see what it sounds like through my rig before I think about any changes.
20. I originally started this thread in "Effects", but it might be better to post it here. Due to back problems, I have gone down the lightweight route in purchasing a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T plus a Genz Benz 2x10 cab. It's a lovely set up, but it does lack the punch and warmth that you get with bigger and heavier rigs, so I am considering getting a Tech 21 VT Bass deluxe to beef up the sound. We play mainly classic rock and blues, so I am seeking that "old school" tone. My questions are: 1. Will it work ok with my rig, and if so, what settings should I use on the amp, should I set it to as clean/neutral as possible? 2. Would I be better off running it through a power amp into my 2x10 cab, and if so, what power amp would you recommend? 3. Should I consider a 1x15 or 2x12" cab to go with it? 3. Would it sound ok through the PA? I've only been playing a few years, so not really up on the tech side of things, so any help would be appreciated.
21. Thanks for the advice Wally, I will check out whether I can use the Genz as a power amp only, as it would make sense to use my existing rig if I can, and achieve the tone I want with the VT Deluxe, that way I will be able to hear myself on stage, and I could still go through the PA if I needed more volume.
22. Due to back problems, I have gone down the lightweight route in purchasing a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T plus a Genz Benz 2x10 cab. 23. Why so much hatred of tabs, for all those people who can read music, there are far more who can't! Fair play to those who can, but not all people can learn to read music for various reasons, and I wouldn't mind betting that almost everyone has been thankful for tabbed music at some stage in their learning curve. It just seems a bit snobbish to rubbish tabs, just because you can now read music. A bit like a "reformed smoker" comes to mind, and yes I used to smoke, but I don't condemn those who still do.
24. I posted a similar request a couple of weeks ago, but got no response, so I thought that I would try again. What I'm after is the bass tab/music to Bad Company's 'Honey Child', I have searched everywhere without success. I have played it a couple of times with my band, but although it is ok, I know it's not right and doesn't sound as good as it should. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
