Strangely, today I was told by a very well known harp player who also teaches harp, that it takes about three years for a novice to reach intermediate level, so add that to the two years already gone, that's five years just to sort out a harp player.

I know this a bass forum, but I just want to see if any of you wonderful BassChatters can help me. I have spent the past couple of years trying to put together a no-nonsense R & B band, that plays music in the style of Dr Feelgood, The Inmates, The Pirates, Nine Below Zero etc.... Our line-up is a drummer, a great guitarist who plays just like “Wilko”, and myself on bass, but we are having a problem finding a blues harp player, I’ve been advertising on all the usual sites for at least two years now, and the only replies I’ve had, are from people who live a couple of hours drive away. So, I was wondering if any of you guys/gals know of any harp players who might be interested in a band like ours. We are based in and around the St Albans area, and will be looking to gig around Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice, but I have decided to give the paint to my mate who is a panel beater, and one of the guys he works with is going to spray it for me.

I have some tins of cellulose lacquer which I'm going to use in my spray gun. Can anyone recommend the best type of thinner to use, because I'm a bit confused after having a google around, as there seems to be many different opinions, as to what is best.

I've just found a place online that sells 6mm bits that are 400mm long, so I will order one now.

The earth wire hole, from the bridge to the control cavity has been drilled (that would have easier to do). It looks like I will have to go in through the jack socket hole, luckily, it’s a 7/8” hole, which gives me a bit of room to work with, but I will be bricking it as I drill through. And where will I get a 12” wood drill bit?

You guys are brilliant, this post is only a couple of minutes old, and already you have come up with great ideas which should resolve the problem.

I have just received all the parts from Warmoth to build a 54 precision, paid a pretty price, especially with the £116.32 duty added on. Anyway, all the parts look great, beautiful bird’s-eye maple neck, and the body is carved from a very nice piece of alder. I checked to make sure everything was ok, and proceeded to apply my own finish to the body. All was going really nicely, and I was looking forward to putting it all together. I then decided to see how well the Lollar single coil fits into the pickup cavity, and to see if the wires will push through the hole to the control cavity easily enough, but to my horror I noticed that there was no hole. I can’t return it, as I have already started to finish it. [b]So does anyone know how I can drill from the pickup cavity through to the control cavity, and what special tools do I need?[/b] I have put a few guitars together in the past, and I am practically minded, but I haven’t got a clue how to do this! I have included a photo indicating what is required.

Has anyone put together a [b][i]Warmoth bass[/i][/b], or does anyone own one? I keep getting drawn to their website, as I believe their bodies and necks are really top quality, and their finishes are supposed to be fantastic. The bass I have in mind would cost me around £600 with duty and taxes, that's everything including the paint job, except the pickup and tuners, which will probably cost me another £150. So all in all, it would cost me about £750, which is a lot of money for a guitar that I put together myself. I do have a fair bit of experience with self builds, but now I want to start a top quality project. What I want to know is, how good would it be, and how would it compare to a production line bass of similar value?

I started the post because I was surprised that we had timewasters on here, because as I stated earlier, I have made many transactions, both buying and selling on BC in the past, and they have ALL been pleasant transactions, so this was the first time it had happened to me. As for pictures etc, I always ensure that the photos I use are of the highest possible quality, and my descriptions quite clear as to condition etc.. [/font][/i][/b][font=arial, sans-serif]and you reply immediately, and you get no response.[/font][/size] [size=4][font=arial, sans-serif]I like to give buyers the benefit of the doubt, because they may have had to go out, o[/font][font=arial, sans-serif]r gone to bed or whatever, after sending the original message, so I hang on for a while, but in the meantime, other potential buyers contact you, and out of courtesy to the first person saying they want it, I tell them it is sold pending, meaning you might lose a buyer.[/font][/size] [size=4][font=arial, sans-serif]I don't mind anyone changing their mind, but out of courtesy, all I'm asking is for them to let you know, and I would reply back saying, "no problem, and thanks for letting me know".[/font][/size]

I usually do once they reply back, but if someone is asking me how I want paying, then in the first instance, I tell them, and when they come back to me, that is usually when I normally strike up a conversation with them. That's how all my other transactions have been, whether buying or selling, and I have to say that everyone I have dealt with on here, have been absolutely great, until now of course.

I'm happy to say that I have just sold a couple of basses on BC, but I am rather surprised how many timewasters there are, gassing over the '[b][i]for sale[/i][/b]' section. I need it.[/font][/i][/b] [b][i][size=4][font=arial, sans-serif]How do you want paying?[/font][/size][/i][/b] [font=arial, sans-serif]I replied immediately, and told other potential buyers that it was sold, pending.[/font] [b][i]He never came back to me.[/i][/b] Another BC'er even went as far as arranging to meet to do a trade, I cancelled a prior arrangement I had, and sent him a message back saying that's fine, but again, [b][i]he never came back to me.[/i][/b] I sent them both messages asking if they were still interested in the bass, and again, [b][i]NOTHING![/i][/b] I know they have the right to change their mind, but to leave me thinking a sale/trade has been made, means I am telling other potential buyers, that the bass is sold pending, and therefore possibly losing a sale. Anyone else experienced this? I would like to say that the two sales I made were very pleasant, with great communication from the buyers.
