1. I have a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 head, and would like suggestions for attaching it to my cab securely. Apart from the fact that it could get pulled off quite easily, it also moves due to the vibrations of the lower notes. I have raised the legs on the head so it clears the handle on the cab, but I need to secure it and have thought about velcro, but it would need to go from side to side, because if I go front to back, it will get in the way of the knobs on the front, and the inputs/outputs on the back. I guess this problem applies to most small heads, so your suggestions would be much appreciated.
2.
Cheers Marc, I have contacted eBay in the past with suspected fakes but have no response so its like banging your head against a brick wall... As long as eBay get their cut on fees they don't appear to be bothered +1 for thebrig as he seemed to get the ball rolling with the seller.
Thanks Guys, just glad to help someone from getting ripped off, and also to stop possible eBay/legal action being taken out against the seller, who emailed me several times for information on the bass, he really didn't know that it was not the real thing.
3. When is this obsession with trying to make new things look old going to end?
4. Having spent many years coaching kids and struggling to find sponsors, and also being a big fan of the Blockheads and NWR in particular, I am pleased for you and at the same time extremely envious, but well done Chaypup!
5. I though I might post a few more pics just to show how nice it was, it had a lovely ebony fingerboard too. I'm feeling quite sad now.
6.
That is just gorgeous. I think I said the same when you offered it for sale.
Thanks Paul, it was gorgeous, and I sometimes wish I had kept it.
7. I owned this Musicman Sterling Limited Edition for a while.
8.
Yup, great band - seen them live twice including tiny venue in Nottingham a few years ago....absolutely brillinat live band....closest I'll ever get to feeling what it must have been like to see/hear The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd in their prime. Tho BSmoke are neither of those bands, they just share common roots.
I was lucky enough to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at Knebworth, the Stones topped the bill, and the lineup included, 10cc, Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Hot Tuna, Don Harrison Band to name but a few, great music, the temperature was well in eighties, hey, those were the days!
9. Latest from the seller: Cheers Brian, I will look into it try and find out some more info, because it's pretty upsetting to read comments like your some kind of scammer. I actually rung round a few music shops and they didn't seem interested, the advice I received was bang it on eBay with a £250 reserve and the people buying this kind of equipment will know what there buying, so it will find its own level. Thanks for the advice Ian.
10.
So he now knows for sure it isn't genuine... yet he hasn't amended the listing or relisted it!
To be fair to him, my last communication with him was just over a hour ago, and he was trying to get as much info about the bass as he can, I have sent him the posts from this thread, and he has taken them on board, so I think we should give the guy a chance, there are still two days to run on the auction, so no money will exchange hands before then anyway. Maybe I'm just too naive and trusting, but I really do like to think that not all people who sells things on eBay are out to con people.
11. Ok, bit of an update. I have been in contact with the seller a number of times now, and I can assure you, he genuinely did not realise that it's not a genuine Fender. He thanked me for pointing this out to him, and says he is going to contact eBay for advice as to what to do. I did point out to him that although it's not a genuine Fender Precision, that's not to say it is not worth much, the fact that it almost falls into the vintage category, would mean that it might fetch a decent price, maybe not as much as what people have bid so far, but maybe £100 - £200 to a collector of old guitars. I said that the important thing is not to call it a Fender, because that would be misleading and against eBay rules, but if he advertised it along the lines of: "70's or very early 80's Precision bass for sale" as the heading, he should be ok. In the ad itself, he can go on to explain that it was purchased in the early 80's for him by his late father, and has been in the loft for many years, and although it has a Fender logo on the bass, he doesn't believe it to be a genuine Fender Precision, that way he is not being dishonest about the bass, and it then puts the onus on the buyer to make a decision whether to bid for it or not. I also pointed out that he said it was purchased in the early 80's, which would indicate that it couldn't have been manufactured in 1985/86 which the serial number indicates, and it also looks a bit older than it should do for a bass that has hardly been used, so maybe it could be a lot older than he thinks, maybe even early 70's? and I wondered if it was new or second hand when it was purchased for him? Hope I have done the right thing and given him some decent advice, but if I have got anything wrong, or left anything out, then please let me know, because although he is not BC'er, and there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there, I don't believe he is one of them.
12.
I don't think he's deliberately trying to flog a fake. He doesn't buy or sell other musical gear, and like I said, the Letraset headstock decal wasn't applied anytime this millenium.. Thebrig - did you tell him it's being discussed on a bass forum, & we know what it actually is? J.
Yes I did, I sent him the link, but he can't access the eBay forum without being a member, I might copy and paste the posts and send them to him. As I said earlier, I do actually believe he just didn't realise it is not the real deal.
13.
My bet is on a Squier Affinity headstock with a tuner upgrade and a decal job.
Just what I was thinking, I had one and I seem to remember the more rounded and slightly larger shape. I wouldn't even say that the tuners have been upgraded, they look the same to me.
14. I actually contacted the seller, because I tend to give some sellers the benefit of the doubt. I pointed out to him that in my opinion, the bass is not a genuine Fender Precision. Here is his reply: "I am no expert so I would have no idea, my late father bought me this back in the early 80s" Personally, I think he really does have no idea.
15. Our band has Six Ways To Sunday and Pretty Little Lie in our set list.
16. If people are reporting it, why is it still on there? It's so obviously a fake that is being described as a Fender!
17. Keep plugging away Juliet, you will get there sooner than you think, whatever the reasons/motives for the song suggestions, you will become a better bass player by being pushed a little, that's for sure.
18. There seems to be quite a few cropping up on eBay for reasonable prices, I've seen many German made Corvettes go for less than £500, in fact I saw one go for £395 a couple of weeks ago, and I have sold two German made Corvettes recently for less than £500 in the past couple of years. I think that any Warwick that is pre-2010 will be German made providing it's not a Rockbass.
19.
It may well be that the stuff that "isn't quite right" simply means that someone else in the band can't play it! Unless the bass part is a real hook, you may be able to play a simpler version and most people listening would never know (there's been many threads on this subject before!). If it's something that you just can't play at the moment, then the band have to live with that and move on and find some stuff you all can play, while you practice like mad until eventually you can play stuff like that (don't worry, that will happen), or tell you they don't think your good enough for the band which is most unlikely: there will be songs with guitar parts the guitarist can't play, songs the singer can't sing, and drum patterns the drummer can't get. That's just how it is in most amateur bands. Unless they're all seasoned 1st class pros and you're not, in which case you're screwed. (joke). The guitarist is never going to suggest things they cant play, likewise the singer won't suggest things they can't sing, and the drummer is unlikely to have any sensible suggestions anyway (also a joke). So perhaps your suggestions are a bit tough for them, and perhaps they're not as honest about their abilities as you are about yours! And Icastle and gary mac are right: in a while you can revisit some of the songs you can't seem to play a the moment and you will surprise yourself.
Totally agree with this. unless you are all top notch muso's. we all have certain songs that we can't seem to nail, whether we are bassists, guitarists, drummers, keys, or whatever, most wont own up to the fact they are struggling with it, and will just say they don't like the song. When I look back to when I first started playing which was about seven years ago, I was exactly the same as the OP and thought the band was suggesting songs with difficult bass lines on purpose, but a lot of the songs I struggled on then, I can now play note for note as per the original, and I now tend to play what I think works best with the way the other band members play the song. Remember, there are millions of songs out there to be played, why beat yourself up trying to play something you just can't do at this moment in time, move on to another song, and continue practicing the one you can't play until you nail it, and then go back to them and suggest it at a later date.
20. I spotted it as soon as it was listed, I put it on my watch list not expecting any bids above £50, but it's already had seven bids and is now on £250 with another five days to go. I checked the serial number on the "Avery" labels attached to the bass, and this is the finding: Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1985 - 1986 I don't think so!

22. My brain hurts! I'm lost, but I admire all you guys who are a minefield of information.
23.
Well, at least you could be sure it would biodegrade rapidly. I'd be surprised if it made it through the funeral service.....
What about all the metal bits?
