1. I was only 5 when they split up, although I think they were a huge influence on young bands in years to come. Even if you dont like them, you must accept that before the Beatles nobody wrote their own songs. BTW I was in Abbey Road studio 2 recently, where they recorded most of their stuff, and I was surprised at how small it was!
2. Thanks to sky+ I will slumber happily while it does its business.
3. Maybe if he learned a couple of pentatonic scales then he wouldnt have to churn out his root note uninspiring lines week in week out.
4. They are sitting on it if you look carefully.
5. I would rather play a great gig to an enthusiastic crowd for peanuts than a sh*t gig to one man and his dog for a lot more.
6. I'm the de facto musical director. Any questions on keys or chord progressions seem to land on my doorstep. Pus I make the tea and sweep up!!
7.
Nice one. Picked one up a couple of weeks back, just like yours, put some 4 year old flats on it straight away and took it to rehearsal. It's huuuge sounding. It's now my go to Ska bass. I'm a die hard P Bass player and the slim neck and uncomfortable feel put me off a bit to start with, but I'm getting used to it and love the sound it pushes out.
Sir Horace Gentlemen from The Specials uses a pukka Gibson T Bird these days so I guess it would sound great in a ska band!
8. Cheers Dougie. I may change the stock strings that came with it, I think they are stainless steels of some description and I am a Nickles fan. Apart from that, it came ready to play straight out of the box and needed no tweaking from me!
9. Sorry Blue, I,m afraid that in the UK badass is a bridge.
10.
Cool if that works for you - but I think that's a bit sad. Who is to say what the potential of that new "start-up" band may be? Every band had to start somewhere...
It appears that the OP is in the USA where 'Bar Bands' take things a bit more serious than us Brits in the local boozer on a Friday night playing for beer money!
11. I used the new Thunderbird bass last night in rehearsal. The neck was a lot slimmer then the precision necks that I am used to, It will take some getting used to, but the sound was immense. The guys commented all what a great sound this bass guitar had. This one has the American made pickup. I was a bit worried because I had heard that the these guitars suffered from neck dive but this was not the case. The sound suited a l lot of the heavier songs that we do much more than the fender precision bass, but i still find it a bit uncomfortable the body shape is a lot different but I guess I will get used to it.
12.
Formed my current band -mostly- through Joinmyband. Had a lot of timewasters and complete morons on there but eventually it's paid off and found a group of folk I gel with musically and socially.
Same here. Got together two years ago, and apart from the original drummer we are still going strong.
13. James Jamersons' P Bass was considered unplayable apparently. It had a very high action and old strings and was never set up properly as he liked it like that!
14. I bought an Epiphone Thunderbird classic IV from them last week via mail order. On arrival here in London, I expected to do a bit of work on it to set it up and make it playable, but it played great straight out of the box!
15. I think the OP is in the USA so may not be able to buy stuff from the uk without a lot of import tax etc. Edit. No he is in the uk. That will teach me to look properly!
16. A nut can be difficult for a newbie. I would take it to a guitar tech if I were you.
17. Here ya go! http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?t=42142
18.
While we're on the subject - how do you actually pronounce 'decals'?
Dee Cales
19. Or about 380 euros
20.
Google is your friend...
Blimey! He's at it again!!
21. Ah! Never thought about Googling it. The Rok sak looks interesting.
22. My new Epiphone Thunderbird didnt come with a case or bag and my trusty old Fender gig bag wont accomodate it. Are there odd shaped gig bags out there??
23.
I'm new to Limelight. Am I right in saying they're new basses, made to look old?
Yes
