I,m still a bit shocked actually! But this evening I was searching Youtube for some 2 Tone Ska stuff by The Specials for some Sir Horace bass content, when I came across this song which I had never heard before. I was familiar with the 2 Tone stuff as a teenager, but a song called 'The Boiler' which I had never heard at all in 30 odd years came up so I thought I would give it a listen. The singer was Rhoda Dakar who sang lead with The Bodysnatchers. The song (If You can call it that) is a 12 bar rocksteady feel with Rhoda talking not singing the vocal. The subject deals with violence against women and rape. The last 60 seconds of the piece are so disturbing that I needed a large scotch to calm down. I wont post the link on here but the inquisitive among you will find it. Sorry to bring down your evening, but I needed to vent. Hobbayne
Anyone who has seen Mars Attacks! will be familiar with the spectacular incompatibility of Martian brain with Slim Whitman's "Indian Love Call". It occurred to me yesterday evening, as I was forced to endure No Doubt's "Don't Speak" whilst standing in the chippy, that there are some songs that have a very similar effect on me. In the end I popped outside to the newsagent to peruse the motorbike mags rather than have to listen to another second of it. I just can't stand it. I can't stand the singers horrible nasal voice, I hate the structure of the song, I hate the silly guitar solo in the middle, and I loathe the lazy 'Ooh-la-la-la' nonsense and the interminable ending. Having to listen to it actually makes me tetchy and bad-tempered. Am I alone, or do other people have songs that they physically can't bear listening to?
I like that song. And the lovely Gwen Stefani However, that awful Cher song where they do that awful effect on her already dreadful voice really burst my brain!

Been looking at a cover for my Markbass combo. The prices are a bit on the high side for my cheapskate pockets. Is it a worthwhile idea to buy a cover??

I would love a year of birth 1964 precision, but I could not justify spending all that money to gig it down the Dog and duck, or hang it on a wall to look at. That is why i use my trusty faithful which I can afford to gig in sh*t-holes.
Post Modern Jukebox - Creep (Radiohead): I love the original but this is better. It's actually the only Radiohead song I can bear to listen to. There used to be a couple of their songs that had good videos, I used to mute the music because I really, really hated it, and just watch the videos.
Wow! that is good!!

Would you buy an expensive bass from somebody abroad with zero posts on here?? No definitely not!
Are you saying Andy Summers was bad-mouthing Sting?
He chose his words very carefully I thought.
Probably best you don't go to one, then.
LOOOOL!!
The seller might be comfortable with passing on your contact details to the buyer, if it was actually sold. I'd be surprised if the seller would just pass you the buyers details (and slightly annoyed if I was the buyer). And get ready to be royally mugged on the price if you're chasing it down like this, but I guess you're prepared for this. Personally I'd take this situation as a sign that specific bass wasn't for you, and a better one will be along soon.
Was it a bass?

Watched this on the BBC iPlayer last night. A great interview with Andy Rourke about Morrisey and Andy Summers about Sting. About what an arsehole he was!

I have an irrational feeling for buying a Musicman Stingray!

I had that feeling with a Thunderbird bass. After a while it became used less and less in favour ot the P bass. -
When you get compliments on your playing

I once got a complement from the bassist of the next band on a festival. "Nice bass playing mate" he quoth. I just stared at my shoes and mumbled something about the onstage sound being crap. He must have thought I was a right arsehole! -
I have 2 Precisions - A US standard 2008 model in Arctic White and a Bitsa Squier P (In my sig pic) With a S D SPB1 Pup and a narrower Jazz neck, which is my go to bass. My first P was a 1984 JV Squier in Fiesta red which I had resprayed C A R. I have dabbled with Stingrays and Thunder birds, but always gravitate back to a P bass as I have Comfy Slipper Syndrome too.

I bought one of these the other day. My old one only worked out of one headphone after I sat on it. The old one lasted me a few years so I hope this will too. I quite like the useful (but limited) drum machine on it.

I have to buy one because I have lost some of my original ones over the years. I am sure I read somewhere that they have to be 13amp. Is that correct? I need to use on a Markbass combo.

I believe he took over from the guy who electrocuted himself. Cant remember his name but he replaced Jet Harris I understand.

Dee Dee Ramone? He used to play with a P bass hanging down by his ankles. If that aint bad technique i dunno what is!

LBC radio's late night phone in show keeps me amused in the wee small hours. -
More interesting than what? The original bass lines on the records? Than the templated trad root / 5 country bass line? If you play something 'interesting' the best you can hope for is a cold, murderous stare from the bandleader. The worst you can expect is being ripped limb from limb by enraged elderly men in cowboy boots and Hank Williams t-shirts.
Indeed! i was helping out a friend in his country band once. We doing this song called Jambalaya or something. It alternated between C and G and bored me rigid. I tried to spice it up a bit by using chromatic fills and pushing and pulling the beat. The singer glared at me and shouted "Play It Straight!" I never got asked back.

I recently changed from Ernie Ball super slinkys to regular slinkys and noted a marked improvement in tone , playability and fret buzz. The neck did need a tweak though, but it wasnt a problem.

I remember reading about the basschatter who strung along a scammer who wanted money paid into a bank account abroad somewhere. The scammer didnt have a clue he was being strung along. It made hilarious reading
BTW, I love the title of this thread. I like to think of them as 'Our' Stones.
As long as they are not gall stones.
Done. Cheers! I'll be sticking the Ric on there next month. Ooops! I said it.
Dont worry, I dont think anyone heard!
