  1. Wheres Tina? Someone else on bass duties on this vid
  2. No mention yet for John McVie and his simple but effective two note bass line on this track.
  3. We have recently started doing Elvis Costello's Pump It Up in our set. Bruce Thomas holds the whole thing together with that bassline, and the octave jumps to the top E really makes the chorus jump at at you. Its a shame that EC sacked him. Easily the best musician in the band.
  4. Isn't it just a 12 bar in G?
  5. Frank Farian. And Milli Vanilli was his brainchild. The biggest musical scam of the 90's. https://www.thevintagenews.com/2017/12/07/milli-vanilli-scandal/
  6. I got one of these for Christmas from the missus. Brilliant idea, and they work too!! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pickmaster-Plectrum-Punch-Make-Your-Picks/dp/B004SHGBDG
  7. RIP. I have the OGWT DVD with Argent doing God Gave Rock And Roll To You. With Jim playing a P bass with a modified pickguard
  8. Didnt they have plastic cymbals painted gold, so they did not make any sound when they were hit? Would have been quite interesting to hear a band miming with live cymbal crashing.
  9. Blimey! That must weigh a ton! Cheap Trick, Thats the band I was thinking of. Never quite got into them. Must have a listen.
  10. I have a SD SPB1 in mine. I prefer the more vintage sound than the QP's hot output.
  11. Unless you are a builder with big hands and sausage fingers and play a 7 string guitar.
  12. I vaguely remember an article in bassist magazine about a top bassist who commissioned his own 12 string bass. Can anyone help me as to who it was??
  13. Brilliant basses these. My one has become my main gigging bass.
  14. I bought one of these last year as a back up, and also to get a different sound from my P basses. It is a blinding bass for the price. Only downside is its a bit weighty and the output was rather hot. (Sorted by now though) I wish I had basses of this quality in the early 80,s when I was starting out. https://www.gak.co.uk/en/sub-by-sterling-ray4-music-man-black/70599?gclid=Cj0KCQiAs9zSBRC5ARIsAFMtUXGvMET9DYR7dzc_KCGSWfZmKTDYKEj2VeE_mTl_sZQ-g9M2_-qe0uAaAj_LEALw_wcB
  15. Our singer uses a music stand. I would rather he didnt because I find it looks a bit naff. However, he had a nasty accident a few years back, and finds it hard to remember the words, so I understand. Our guitarist has post it notes stuck everywhere with little reminders.
  16. The Greeks post above just reminded me of this S&G song that had me thinking. He died last Saturday He turned on the gas, and he went to sleep. With the windows closed, so he'd Never wake up. Wow!
  17. The Jam - Setting Sons. Bruce Foxtons' plectrum powered basslines inspired me to pick up the bass.
  18. When lost my father there were two George Harrison songs that made it bearable for me. The Sunrise doesn't last all morning, The cloudburst doesn't last all day. All things must pass. All things must pass away. Life goes on within you... And without you. So true.
  19. Well, I braved the freezing London weather to let Kevin have a look at my Nate Mendel P Bass with the stiff truss rod. He whipped the neck off and sorted it out in minutes. He also threw away the shim I had put in there saying I wouldnt need it any more. What top service.
  20. Its a real shop in Denmark St, London. I,m going to pop my P bass in tomorrow. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=stairway+to+kevin&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=xBAoWqrkAu-JgAbL-LTABA
  21. Has anyone had any work done by Kevin. I only just found out about his new luthier business in Denmark Street and may give him a shot.
  22. The bass player in this song is only using open strings. Maybe he hurt his wrist!
  23. I use open strings mainly for hammer ons up the neck. I also like to use an open D string as a drone while playing a little melody line up on the top of the G string over it.
  24. 100% too. I got a bit caught out by Charles Mingus. I have never heard any of his stuff. Kim Gordon also caught me out. I knew Tina Weymoth played a short scale Fender, and did not have huge, hairy arms so that was a bit of a giveaway!
