Sitting here with my sunburst P Bass and was wondering how the sunburst finishes were done. I imagine there are three different colours blended together. Anyone know how they doit?

Ah, I didnt read it it properly. He didnt actually say what I thought he said. 🙄 Jools’ Holland’s annual New Years Eve Hootenanny TV show will be broadcast tonight at 11.15pm on BBC2. Here I am during rehearsals with my fabulous Ibanez Premium BTB1826 six string bass ready for action! People ask me if I ever get nervous playing regularly on TV shows? My answer is, I only get nervous about all those heavy, swivelling TV lights hanging directly above my head! 😜 The guests on tonight’s show include Michael Bublé, Yola Carter, Junior Giscombe, Jess Glynne, Nile Rodgers, Marc Almond, and our very own Ruby Turner! I’ve been the house bassist on this acclaimed TV show for the past 25 years, and I feel most privileged to have played with so many legendary & iconic artists in the past quarter of a century. For those of you who are able to watch the show tonight, I hope you enjoy it, and wishing everyone a happy, healthy, successful & rewarding 2019!

I follow Dave Swift on Facebook. Yesterday afternoon he posted that he was doing some final hootenanny rehearsals. So it could have been recorded shortly before it was televised.

Well, I love P basses. In fact, I have 3 of them.😋 And a Yammy BB 5 string , which has a P pickup.

I have recently started using Rotosound RB50's. They are quite a heavy gauge, and so far so good from me. I had been using Ernie Ball for years and fancied a change.

This Yammy BB 5 string I bought from Chunky Monkey back in the summer. I,m not really a 5 string player but I took it to a gig and my band loved it.

Paul Mc Cartneys Ram album on vinyl. I discovered it while clearing out the loft and gave it a spin. Its quite well known for the songs on it that take a pop at Lennon.

Hmmm. Here are two different bass tones which I love. John McVie - You Make Loving Fun. Warm round tone. Bruce Foxton - Mr Clean. Rough and trebely and high in the mix.

I love the first albums up to and including Document. They went a bit too commercial after that. Murmur always gets played in my house, even today.

Once she's done that song, everyone will bugger off home. 🤣

This one has two bassists and the guitar player is even playing the bassline on a Les Paul! 😂

Been revisiting this album from my early teens. I loved Mark Bedfords bass playing on this and its predecessor, One Step Beyond. But 38 years later, the amount of treble and fret noise has rattled my cage in my old age. Sounds like flats with the top cranked up. I would probably mixed it with more low end. Still, A great album. 👍

I always do it as I,m forever stepping on my lead. I always wrap the other end round the speaker handle too, just as a precaution.

And me, and I play in a classic rock covers band. Its loud enough on its own but a monster with the NY 121 ext cab.

I play both. A Yammie BB 5 and a Fender P. However, the weight of the 5 plays havoc with my shoulder. So I try to mix and match with the correct song that I can do on a 4, so my shoulder gets a break.
