1. I've just switched from Cubase to Reaper and I'm very impressed. You get a 30 day trial period and I bought a license after a couple of hours. Jas
2. As said above, there are some very good second hand Basses around for that money. If you really want a new one, then this should be something that might tick all the boxes? http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_affinity_p_bass_pj_bk.htm I have an Affinity P and it is a very good Bass. Jas
3. I have a Zoom H2 and have used it to good effect during Rehearsals and gigs to gather info on the sound of mine and others bands. The recorder never lies and if there are any problems then the recording will show you. For example In my previous band, we had a new female singer and she was very average at singing, but the rest of the band loved her. I recorded a gig and played it back to the rest of the band, including the singer, to prove that I wasn't just being negative, but she really couldn't sing to the required standard. The guitarist made himself look stupid by saying that the recorder made her sound 'off'. Have a listen to your recordings and be honest with each other. Jas
4. It was really strange Ubit, Kelly picked this person out in the crowd and was making a big deal out of it. Obviously having a bad day? I can't see the problem with taking pictures. Jas
5. I went to see Stereophonics on Wednesday in Bournemouth. I was not impressed at all. I felt that the band didn't really want to be there, like it was all too much effort. At one point Kelly started having a pop at someone in the audience for taking pictures, really going at them and swearing. There was very little interaction with the audience and it was all a bit flat for a band of this quality. Jas
6. GAS is a terrible affliction that can strike at any time. I have been suffering from a particularly heavy bout of GAS over the last few months. It has eased a little recently but I know it will be back.... Jas
7. It's not always just about the gigs. I like the social side of being in two bands and getting together every week. I gig about 40 times a year which is just right for me at this time. A few years ago 15 gigs a year was what I enjoyed. Also, quantity is not always better than quality. I would rather do 10 decent gigs a year than 60 poor ones. Jas
8. I bought a Boss TU2 Tuner from Rob. He sent it the next day, well packaged. The tuner was in great condition, as described in his advert. Good communications throughout, one of the good guys. Jas
9. Stereophonics at BIC Bournemouth in December
10. Yes it did well at the gig on Sunday. As BigRedX says above, it comes with an adaptor for the 12v PSU when you buy it from Thomman, but its not that bad in my opinion. I had no issues with it at all, the transmitter has a nice weight to it, its easy to set up, all in all I am happy with it. It felt very liberating having no lead to trip over Jas
11. You will always get differing views to questions like this, regardless of which band is being talked about. I personally love the Foos and think Dave Grohl is a fantastic chap. Went to see them in Sunderland this year and had a great time, so yes, to me they are THAT good. But I also realise to some people they are not. As for comments about them being for people that don't like music, well your wrong in my case, because I like most forms of music. I enjoy a diverse range of music, including shouty rock for the masses.... Jas
12. Impressive chops, but boring as hell to listen to it for any length of time. When I see these great virtuoso bass players, I often think 'why don't they just play a guitar'? Jas
13.
Be interested to hear your thoughts as I'm leaning towards the Sony
I am very pleased with it, all the reviews are spot on. It is very easy to set up and use. The transmitter is very well made and feels like it could withstand a lot of abuse. I have only tried it out at a rehearsal so far, there is no change in my sound and it's just the same as having a cable connected.... exept it isn't!!! Can't wait to gig it this weekend, looking forward to not tripping over my cable like I normally do! Jas
14. I have been looking at the wireless kits recently and have just plumped for the Sony DWZB30GB from Thomman for £131 + shipping. I looked at the Line 6 G30 but was put off by the reviews of a flimsy battery door. I looked at the Smooth Hound but it was just a little more than I wanted to spend. Can't wait for it to turn up and try it out Jas
15. If we are including bits, then I have another guitar 'work in progress'. Its a replica of SRV #1 Jas
16. I have 7 Basses, 5 guitars and a Ukulele. I don't need this many, I don't go round boasting how many I have got. I have this many because I like playing different instruments as and when I like. People often say I don't need that many instruments, and they are right. I can only play one at a time, in the same way my wife can only wear one pair of shoes at a time from her mighty collection. But I want this many and will probably add to my collection as they give me great pleasure. Also, the Deko deals on the Thomman website are too good to pass...... Jas
17. I own a Hiwatt DR112 PA head. I use it for bass and guitar and it is just the best amp I have ever owned. The clean sounds it produces are just amazing. I used to gig it every weekend in a reasonably loud pub band and it had no problem keeping up with a loud drummer and guitarist even though it's 'only' 100 watts. As mentioned above, it is very heavy so now it only gets an outing if my back is not playing up. Mine is 41 years old and still going strong. I've never heard a 200watt Hiwatt, it must shake the ground!!!! Jas
18. Bought a pair of mics from Joe, well packaged and speedy delivery. Top bloke to deal with!! Jas
19. I have GAS for an SRV #1 strat replica. I've wanted one for years so I think I'll have to have a go at making one, it will be on a budget though. Jas
20. +1 for Ernie Ball Flats. Just put a set on my 5 string fretless and love them. Jas
21. +1 for the SR16, fab bit of kit and can be picked up second hand for less than £50. Jas
22. Like JTUK, I have a heavy rig and a light rig. This is my heavy rig and I love it. Its an old 1974 100w all valve PA head. The cabs I made myself, but they have Goodmans speakers from 1976 in there. I love playing with this rig, such a nice sound, but it is bloody heavy. Jas
23. Shout - Lulu, this is consistently our number that goes down best. We have just started playing Ed Sheran - Thinking out Loud, this is getting a very good reception with a lot of couples getting up for a slow dance ....... Jas
