1. There was plenty of sweat at the Portsmouth gig!! Jas
2. I saw him at Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms a couple of weeks ago, don't think there was a dry eye in the place when he was playing Bye Bye Johnny. It was a cracking gig/performance and leaves me with very good memories of him. Jas
3. They cost 2100 Yen which is roughly £14, posted. I got the SB30 side dots. Jas
4.
I bought some from the seller in Japan. It arrived in four days. No problems.
Yep, I bought some from the seller in Japan 2 weeks ago and it also arrived in 4 days. Jas
5. Just thought you might like to see the difference a few hours and a roll of new tolex can make to a very tired looking cab. I bought it off a fellow BC'er and just felt compelled to get it looking half decent again. Its a great sounding cab, with plenty of headroom, but its very heavy at nearly 60kgs. I stripped the old tolex off, covered it in new Marshall Elephant grain tolex, painted the front grill and generally gave it a good clean inside and out. As I bought it............... It had no feet, and had been dragged around a bit, wearing out the tolex on the underside completely and the finished cab........... It was very satisfying refurbishing this great cab. Jas
6. Dean Edge 1 Less than £200 and a really nice bass for the money. It plays really well and doesn't sound too bad through a decent amp. I was looking for a backup bass and now I use it as my main bass sometimes. Worth a look. Jas
7. I played at my wedding 13 years ago, it was fun and its only as stressful as you make it. We played for about an hour at the beginning of the evening reception and then a disco took over so I could 'enjoy' the rest of the evening. It went down well and I have fond memories of that day. Also, because it was my 'big day' the rest of the band set up my gear and took it down at the end, so I just turned up and played I wouldn't want to do a full on 2 or 3 sets. Jas
8. I have a Hiwatt DR112 100w PA head from 1974. Its a great amp, has plenty of power and I use it about twice a month for most of my gigs. Yes its heavy, but it is built like a tank, great reputation for quality, sounds awesome and looks great IMO. You don't see many for sale, and I can see why having owned this one for the past 15 years or so. Jas
9. Bought a pair of Pickups from Muzz, great comms all through the transaction, very quick delivery, def a genuine guy, pleasure doing business with you. Thanks Jas
10. I use Solsound on Ebay, seems quite reasonable and its good Tolex. 11. I have just bought a Marshall 4 x 10 cab from Stuee, very good communications, item was as described, nice and easy transaction, pleasure to do business with. Thanks
12. The Fringe are a Gosport/Fareham based covers band who are looking for a replacement Singer/Vocalist/Frontman after the previous one let us down recently and left the band. We are looking for someone who can actually sing, entertain an audience and enjoy playing to audiences ranging from local pubs to large party/festival gigs. We have gigs booked throughout the year, but will only take on the right person. You need to be able to commit to approx 2 gigs a month (sometimes more, sometimes less), be reliable, be able to travel, have a laugh, enjoy what you do and be open to new ideas. The rest of the band consists of Drums, Bass Guitar and Lead Guitar. We have been playing together for a few years and are very tight. This is a quality covers band with a good reputation that we want to build on. The type of music we play ranges from: The Killers, Razorlight, The Specials, The Buzzcocks, Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, The Jam, U2, The White Stripes, Oasis, Kula Shaker, Ocean Colour Scene, Kaiser Chiefs, The Wombats, The Clash, Primal Scream............ you get the idea. We don’t want to play the ‘pub standards’ and we are always looking at new songs to add to the set list. We have our own studio/rehearsal room and usually practice once a week when learning new songs. If you want to give this a go, get in touch and we will sort out an informal get together. Thanks Jas
13. Welcome, I'm sure you will enjoy this site, I used to live in Bognor up until 5 years ago, lived in Chichester before that and have now worked in Chichester for the last ten years, didn't even know the studio was there!!! Jas
14. We use www.keepandshare.com Nice and simple, works well for us and its free. Jas
15.
Agree on the points made about Nevada in Portsmouth - last time I went in there it felt like I was troubling a member of staff by wanting to buy something - is it just bass players that get rubbish service there? How do these places stay in business in the current climate!?
For a lot of these shops, a hell of a lot of business is done online, no customer service required. The online business carries the shop front. Jas
16.
Went into Nevada Music last week as it is my local shop and I'm looking for my next bass, luckily they had a 4003 this time and I asked to try it out and the first thing the guy said was, "You actually gonna buy something then?" I thought I'll let it slide as I can't really get elsewhere currently due to lack of transport. The guy ended up plugging me into an Ashdown Tour bus, so after I badgered him into letting me try it through a worthwhile amp, still out on the shop floor right next time their radio system so had some god awful feedback coming through I decided yes this is the bass I wanna buy but I don't want the mapleglo finish, so I hand the 4003 over to him and he instantly scanned it into the till and said how are you paying for it. I walked out and I am NEVER going to go back in there! Horrible shop, rubbish stock of a few Fenders, millions of ESPs and Ibanez basses with the occasional MM or Ric. Note to Nevada store guy, that is not how to give customer service and convince someone to buy from you!
I had a very similar experience in this shop a few years ago. It's not what I call a traditional music shop, it's the supermarket of music shops. If I want service then I go to a smaller shop, the downside of that is they don't carry as much stock. I have been using the guitar and amp shop in Bognor for the last few years, it's more than twice the distance for me to travel but at least I get good old fashioned customer service from people who actually want my business. It's a shame that some of the larger stores can't get such a simple thing right, Nevada could be such a great store if they got the right staff in there. Jas
17. I've got a Pacifica 112, had it for 15+ years, its a great guitar for the money and has stood the test of time. It plays well and sounds great. If you can pick up an old one that has been looked after you will pick up a bargain as they don't sell for much these days. Jas
18. I have just started learning how to go about recording our band. Listen to the advice from those who know, it will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. I have gone down the laptop and interface route to enable myself to expand at a later date. I felt that the Zoom type recorders were quite limiting for people that really know their stuff. (I hope one day I will know my stuff) I bought a Tascam US-2000 usb Interface off ebay for just over £200 (retails at £400), It comes with Cubase LE and has up to 16 inputs. I use it with my laptop that is more than capable of running Cubase. I have not really had a problem using a mouse to control the sliders yet. I am currently at the stage of being able to record tracks and play around with effects etc, I have not got round to mixing and mastering yet, as I understand it, thats the really hard bit to get right ...................... What I have learned so far is that £500 can be just the begining of 'recording GAS', and I am suffering from GAS in a big way at the moment. Like 51m0n says, its a very steep learning curve, and I am really enjoying it at the moment. Jas
19. I have been a singer/frontman and a guitarist in previous bands, but I have never been happier playing Bass. Only been playing Bass for the last couple of years or so, but wish I had picked it up earlier. I have always been interested in the Bass guitar, and a couple of years ago I bought one, now I am a gigging bassist in a local band and loving it. Jas
20. Have you thought about starting your own band? I keep an eye on 'join my band' etc (even though I am in a band) and there seems to be a lot of other mucicians advertising, and probably even more that just browse these sites looking for someone that is forming a new band. I understand the pitfalls of putting together a new band, it took me over a year to get the right people in place.................. Just a thought? Jas
21. I live in fareham, so not too far west. I rent a seat at fratton park though .......... Jas
22. First off, I am no expert, I've just started playing with recording music. I didn't want to invest too much money in to it to start with, so I downloaded Audacity. I didn't want to spend money on software when I didn't know what I was buying. I have got a Behringer 2442fx mixer which comes with a 'U-Control USB UCA200 2in/2out Audio Interface'. This has solved most of the latency issues because it has the Monitor out. You can pick these up for about £20 or spend a little more for the newer version http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx I am sure you can get much better quality by spending more, and I'm sure others on here will know a great deal more on this subject. I am just starting to get to grips with Audacity and find its a great tool for my level of knowledge and budget. Maybe in the future I will move on to a better DAW? Jas
