1. anyone who plays a bass, badly or well...occasionally or regularly is a bass player there's enough elitism elsewhere in the world already.
2. tim sold me his squier CV jazz bass - and what a gent he is. kept in contact the whole time, bass arrived well packed and exactly what i was after. if you get the chance to deal with tim, you can do so with utmost confidence. thanks fella !
3. i use 100-40's which i've heard described as light, but suit me horses for courses.
4.
He is Sam Simon-Norris, and he's a fantastic musician, so much panache and sensitivity, I love his playing. Thanks for the compliment mate
not the guy i thought it was, no matter !
5. you can use a passive Di with a passive bass...you don't need an active DI. that aside you could DI after the pedal, yes.
6.
Ah yes, that's BB King.
oh..that bb king...wha ?
7. thanks for the suggestions for a 1st album to listen to.
8. nice to see they've gone down the blend route for the overdrive.
9. the man's a genius imho - bass playing aside, i find his music endlessly fascinating.
10.
If Carlsberg made basses, they would be mass-produced and utterly bland :-)
plus the one !!
11. looking cools as feck, as always nigel who's on guitar ? - he looks familiar
12. my stringing method (which i use on all my basses, including those what have nice happy E-strings) is to angle the end of the cut string though ~90 deg and i usually have 2-3 turns around the tuning peg. the nickels sound great after a few weeks - slight dulling as you'd expect, but the E is as strong as ever.
13.
I can't get there till half past four, can I still be in?
/stands, applauds/
14. ok - i know the odd song by them. one album to start with please...
15. very pretty. i love the sunburst - modern, but not too much.
16. am i the only one thinking 'goldie looking chain' ?
17. lovely ! you must be well chuffed
18. be interested to see the pics !
19.
Bit late to the party I realise, but here goes... CV thickness at nut = 23mm and at 1st fret = 20mm VM thickness at nut = 25mm and at 1st fret = 19mm FWIW, I also checked my late '90s CIJ 62RI, and that's 23mm at the nut and 19mm at the 1st fret. NB I've not got a set of verniers, so these figures have been obtained by using a pile of mountain-bike magazines and a bit of broken ruler - accept them at your own risk!!!
you're a star ! fantastic - looks like it's deffo pointing to the CV...my jazz is pretty much the same as you 62RI. which do you find feels most similar to the 62RI ?
20.
Dunno, but the CV will be closest to your 62RI.
right - thanks, just the sort of thing i needed to know.
21. any ideas ? before i spend the money on something sensible....
22. small amps can help - i use a behringer thunderfunk for most of my home practice, and its tiny speaker doesn't exactly pump out the low end ! and as others have said, some kind of foam does help - i have a bit of upholstery foam i found in the street which seems to help if i want a bit more volume. i've never had any complaints about my bass - i put this down to being sensible with volume. or as we used to call it...consideration
23. i'm thinking of buying myself a 'stunt' bass as i'm now quite nervous of transporting my '86 jazz bass around on public transport. i'd like to get a bass as close to the beloved jazz as possible (i think it's a 62 reissue) and i'm curious as to the thickness of the necks on the CV and VM basses. if any basschatter would be kind enough to measure the thickness of the neck at the nut i'd be most grateful. by thickness i mean measuring perpendicular to the fretboard to the back of the neck
24. so you can sell your 5 year old bass with a photo that makes it look like it was taken 30 years ago ? with degraded image quality ? i dunno, come the revolution....
25. what a dull record.
