1. as joyo are occasionally known to, errr....ape other manufacturers, i can't help but wonder about a hao rust ride connection with that tone switch.
 2.
Cheers! SFT was high on the list, and is a good start. Wasn't a fan of the scooped Sansamp Bass Driver sound I had before so stayed away from Sansamp bass gear since then. The Mad Professor Blueberry OD sounds good too. TBH I think a fuzz set to low gain settings will get in the ballpark too, as I've always liked how amplike non-gated fuzz pedals can behave.
i was looking for a similar sound to what i think you're after and i found the blueberry was very firmly in overdrive territory - i found it too heavy sounding for the 'on the edge' breakup. i'd go with the SFT, although it is more compressed-sounding than the blueberry iirc.
 3. always interested in a new overdrive can't see any reviews as yet - i do wonder how well a 3-poisiton tone switch will work tho.
 4.
They were all made by Status and still are. The one I had (serial no: 101) sounded really nice ...
it still does i think they're great basses - the only downside is that the bass feels very long-necked at first, but you get used to it. it's a monster live - flat amp, flat eq and that's all you need.
 5. my newly-acquired status shark has blown me away. even tho it's a wider neck than i'm used to, i'd a dream to play and the tone is just amazing.
 6. i've always been a bit dubious of these little valve amps. when you're running valves with such low voltages are you really getting much more 'valve tone' than a well designed solid state design ? i am no expert mind...
 7. not to run with scissors.
 8. um, ok.... it's a small button, round...quite inviting really. although red has undertones of danger. could it be dangerous to press it ? maybe it's the hint of danger makes it exciting... what ? oh....the band muse...i see...
 9.
I`ve had similar incidents - a guy telling me he could "take me in a bass-off".
that just makes me think of this...
 10.
We played a Bikers Rally a few years ago and this HUGE biker comes up to our guitar player, looked him square in the eye (we were on a 3 foot tall stage and I swear they were eye to eye) and said "play f*ckin' Dancing Queen - or else". The rest of the band (myself included) found our way to the other side of the stage. He wouldn't let it go. "Play f*ckin' Dancing Queen".....This went on for around 5 minutes whilst said guitarest was sh*ting himself and trying to play through the set. We cast the occasional glance to see how things were going (some strage notes were emiting from his amp) until eye contact was made where we all just looked away again. Eventually Biker squares up to him, full on in the face and says "nah - only joking mate" and pats him on the back. I swear there were some brown trousers on that stage that night.
what a dickhead
 11. not much you can do except tell him once more, firmly and definitively, that he's not needed in your band and that it's not worth asking again. that's the adult response. if he doesn't want to act like an adult after that, then that's his problem - not yours, not the band's.
 12.
Yep - Nina Hagen
aaah, i thought the eye was painted on her hand ! cool pic !
 13.
...and thanks, deep down I see myself as an insane German woman
who is she ?
 14.
I've been spoiled in previous bands by fabulous, confident drummers. They made my job so straightforward. I never realised
i played with a string of superb drummers and i know you really feel it when you then play with someone less proficient. the worst thing i found was that it sapped my confidence and made me feel like i'd developed a timing problem ! (very much rectified by jamming with another band today) i can only echo the advice above, get out if you can't hack it...i may do soon with my current 'less proficient' drummer. (you have a great avatar btw)
 15.
You have just made my day. Really superb post.
can't add anything else - hats off to you bilbo
 16. just to agree with the above - superb demo vid and fantastic stage garb
 17. sex on fire only joking grounds for divorce by elbow is my current fave - any excuse for fuzz bass.
 18. gas can GAS very clever idea
 19.
I'll say what I say when someone asks me about any new artist and my opinion of them etc. SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO FUGAZI. Thank you.
20.
I think this is more to do with the fact that he is a decent looking 18 year old lad.
you wouldn't even know his name if he wasn't.
 21.
What's the opposite of jazz?
well if yang is the opposite to ying then the opposite of jazz must be.....
 22.
I don't understand why anyone would be in a band, go to the effort of finding a venue etc
i don't understand why people do a lot of things they do for pleasure, but i don't deny that they do derive pleasure from them, nor do i deride them for it. it's horses for courses.
 23.
Well yes, if you don't entain the audience they won't stay and won't bring their friends next time. But without the audience there is no one to entertain. So primarily you need an audience and you need to grow and widen that audience because tastes change and your music changes. Fans drift away and new fans come.
all very true, but as i said it depends on what you want out of it. not everyone approaches bands in the same way.

 25.
The object of playing gigs is to get exposure for your music to a new audience and grow your fan base.
i'd day primarily it's to entertain the audience ! i was going to type a big reply here but when it comes down to it there are as many reasons why people are in bands as there are people. the most i made from any gig in the 25 years i've played in originals bands would struggle to tickle £50, and the most i've played to (captive audiences aside) is ~150. i'm happy with that. i've made some people very happy with my music. rock on !
