1. bump for ker-azee price slashage.
2.
I had one many moons ago and didn't think it was all that great. I seem to remember it was a bit of a tone-sucker.
i have to admit i tried very hard to like mine, but sold it in the end for similar reasons. ymmv to the OP of course
3. last bump before gumtree.
4. i really only concern myself with the physical durability of the cables i use. i really don't think my hearing's good enough to splash lots of money on high-end cables.
5.
Sorry, my camera is not working but it is sunburst and is in perfect condition, just needs a change of strings. It is a really nice jazz bass, but I need something a little more suited to rock and metal, so this would be a perfect swap.
thanks, but i'll pass for the moment - it's not quite what i'm after. thanks for the offer though.
6. take the both to a bass guitar exhibition, let them listen to what they started and then see who'll own up to it.
7. have you any pics ?
8. price goes down, thread goes up.
9.
He has no finesse, a completely naive musical approach, uses a bass in a way it was never intended .. but you know what, he's a bit of a genius in his own f***ed up way. We should greatly respect Hooky as someone who did it in the only way he knew how to, and for truly expressing himself and not trying to be someone he isn't. 99% of us are just being someone else with a titchy little gloss of our own personalities as the cream on the huge bass trifle.
plus the one
10. a friend of mine (dogload, you there ?) once complained that if he used a capo he looked lazy, but when i put one on a bass it looked 'arty'
Black metal. Pay attention. It is very nearly Steve Albini. Pretty good band.
oops, sorry. black metal - ok...no bass, tinny. thanks
12.
Even if you don't like Hooky or Joy Division/New Order, this bass riff is utterly brilliant at sorting out the intonation on a bass - I play it every time I get a new bass (which is lets face it quite often) to help me do the setup properly
hahahha - me too !
13.
I always assumed Hook played high on his G string because he didn't have the faintest idea what could be done on the rest of the fretboard.
hook didn't spend his whole time up the dusty end ! transmission and digital spring to mind as two played lower down. there are others tho....my memory fails me on the titles.
14. i'm not offended if you don't 'get' it. but powerful basslines and a great sound do it for me.

so, is the point that death metal supposedly sounds tinny and has no bass ? it feels a bit like i'm watching an impressionist impersonating someone i don't know.
16. ian masters from the pale saints. not that i'd imagine anyone has heard of him, or the brilliant pale saints, which is a shame.
17. who told you i was wearing a wire ?
18. "is it because it is black ?" bump
19. it's interesting what people have said about rats as i've had a few, and modded a few and i've only ended up disappointed with the tone. i found the reutz mod to yield a too 'farty' sound, and although the turbo rat certainly cut less bass, the distortion was too fierce. my current tweaked rat is a turbo rat that was modded by silent fly for better bass response, but then further modded by changing the clipping circuit to a mosfet and a silicon diode. it's nice and touch-sensitive, but i'd like to eventually tweak the gain control to give a better sweep at lower gains. having said that, a rat blended with a clean signal to keep the bass is pretty darn good.
20. the day one of those turns up in black is the day i fall out with girlfren in a big way.
21. fanastic amps - i love my baby baby blue II combo. good luck with the sale.
22.
Would you be interested in a fretless Squier Vintage Modified Jazz in sunburst? Its in mint condition.
if it were fretted, i'd have your arm off, but sadly i only need one fretless bass to play badly
23. a "the strap and case new would set you back ~£100" bump
24. my neighbour is a professional composer and uses things like realstrat and realguitar all the time. they're amazing pieces of software, and yes, i'd imagine most of the 'real' instruments you hear on soundtracks are nothing of the sort. make me wonder how many 'guitar' bands actually use this kind of thing instead of actually recording guitars.
