I know this is a serious subject but when I saw the thiread heading I couldn't help thinking of this!.....
Some of the replies here suggest people over-complicating things. It's not a contract you're being asked to sign, it's just an advert. If you were interested the next step is to ring/email/meet them and ask them about the things you don't know... YMMV of course, but even if an ad basically said 'Ahpook the bassplayer needed for band, age:44 heigh 5'9", glasses, beard, long hair, must like overdrive and Fender basses. Essential to have been born in Essex' I'd still want to talk to them before I made a decision !!

I've only done it once - this was with an originals band a few years ago - 70 min set in one venue, then a quick drive across London to another 70 min set. Very tiring night, but very enjoyable. Bear in mind it's a long night, so food and fluids on hand to keep your strength up ! Good luck and have fun !
They seem to be very honest and upfront about what they want. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to meet them... if it's the sort of thing one was looking for.
Plus the one Looks absolutely fine to me. They're being up-front about what they want, which saves time for both the band and any prospective applicants. If you fit the bill, then the next step would be to get in touch and discuss anything you needed to know - you can't put everything in an advert.
Had my bass built with my name on the headstock.
Good plan...talking of which, anyone seen any of my amps ?
It says hac 54 on the plate, not sure what that's about.
Oh, pish and tush...we're far too uncool the decipher anything to with Factory Records or the Hacienda...you either know or you don't

Just to remember - you can't 'purchase' things any more... ...you have to 'source' them
I scratch my national insurance number under the scratch plate , neckplate or the bridge , that way if your bass ever gets stolen and turns up in crackconverters or somewhere else you can prove it to the rozzers that its yours .
Yep - just what I've always done - postcodes can change, as can names, but the need to pay yer stamp... ...always with us
What if, as has happened to me, somebody nicks your NI number though? I spent ages trying to prove that I wasn't a chef working at Canary Wharf a few years back, it was a f***ing nightmare.
True, but if you've hidden the markings, it's just a unique number.

It's a 'she' ? Wow...how do you decide the gender of a bass amp ?
-
The bass has 51 on it but tthe description says 54 - seems a bit odd?
4 is above 1 on a numeric keypad - I'd imagine it's just a typo !
Just had a brief trawl round 'tinternet and from the photos I could find, the bridge is wrong for a Deluxe...
Jinx ! Exactly what I was about to say
So for 2-4 pedals the general opinion is just to use a standard power supply with a daisy chain rather than a block?
I'd say so - served me fine for years, as long as the PSU's good qualtiy and can deliver enought current all your pedals. You can get some problems daisy-chaining digital pedals due to noise being fed back into the supply and annoying the other pedals on your chain. I'm sure you'll get differing opinons tho !

The Peavey looks great, but I'd be worried about the digital gizmos inside, long-term. Think I'd be looking for the-simpler-the-better.
-
I have a couple of 9v PSUs from www.pedalstuff.com which have done me fine for many years, but I can't seem to find them on the new site any more I know the 'One-Spot' units get a lot of praise. If you're planning on running a few more pedals in the future then getting one that can supply ~1000mA is an idea, then you'll never run out of juice.

Pack it in the hardcase with packing (bubblewrap for example) to stop it shifting about, wrap the case in a couple of layers of heavy cardboard... ...then give Interparcel a ring.

Nice to know I've been playing it the 'correct' way all these years
I would prefer to build a signal generator because this is just as much about the fun of building the project as it is how useful it will be afterwards.
That's a sentiment I can understand ! I've just dug out an old book I have "Audio Projects" by F.G. Bayer (ISBN 9780859340656) which has a schematics for a miniature audio tracer and a pen generator - might be worth seeing if you can get hold of a copy - it's quite a nice little book overall.
Yup, I am back again and asking for more advice... I have been, slowly, going through this thread properly. I saw the stuff about making an audio probe. So I got thinking about building a small, maybe 1w, amp and signal generator, all in one box that can sit on my work bench. I would use banana plug sockets, including the required capacitor for the probe, that way I can just use some of my multimeter test leads, and a 1/4" output jack from the signal generator. I need to find designs for a simple amp and a signal generator. I have seen the Ruby and Cricket amps but I want something clean, no distortion. Is there a way to give those masses of headroom before they clip? Not sure how helpful being able to create different signal waves from the generator would be, but it would be good to have it create a range of signal to include the lowest notes of a bass and highest of a guitar. This would mean I won't have to learn to play bass with my toes, or make a compliant friend to strum for me, when mucking about with the probe. I will be using veroboard and don't want to spend money on a complete kit. Basically, if I need to buy bits that I don't have, I have to be able to get them from Bitsbox, so it would be helpful if there weren't any obscure components. When it is done I will post results if anyone is interested in doing one for themselves.
Instead of a signal generator to create you test tones, could you record a series of notes or tones on phone/walkman/small recording device and use that as a test signal ? Just a thought. You'd still need some kind of probe to inject them into the circuit though. As for the amp - if you're tinking of putting bass through it then a amp with a small speaker it might struggle with the bass. Sorry, these are just musings really.... There are quite a few audio amp chips you could use to make a simple, low volatage amp - maybe a LM386 or a TDA300 ?
The band, silly! Any fans on here? I need a bit of help...
What kind of help ?

There was a Deluxe model with 5 knobs iirc, but I think it had a humbucker at the bridge.

Guitarist - retuning when putting a capo on...
ahpook replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
Nearly all the problems with capos come from strings being pulled excessively sharp. If he's the sort of chap who'll take advice, here are some tips: * Avoid spring-loaded capos like the Kyser Quick Change or the old elasticated jobs. The further up the neck one clamps this sort of capo the more it throws the tuning out. Use something like a Shubb where the clamping pressure can be 'continually' adjusted to the minimum necessary for the strings to ring clean.
In my experience this is the key - over tighteneing a capo (on guitar and bass) will throw the tuning right out. -
It's.....um...ghastly.
The great deity above invented lightweight bass amps for a reason. You have already voted with your feet for the Fusion. I suspect it's only the cool factor that keeps you thinking of the Burman, and that is not enough of a reason when loading out at midnight after a sweaty gig
Plus the one.

valve amps must be connected to speaker cab b4 powering up?
ahpook replied to skidder652003's topic in Amps and Cabs
Just to add another 'not a good idea to run a valve amp with no load' post. It can be a good way of destroying an expensive output transformer
