1. As an aside, I don't think the effects would have had much to do with it - sounds like a hot amp at a hot gig ! Go with Dad3353's excellent advice on giving the insides a good old clean out. Does the fan seem to shift a decent amount of air ? - if it's gunked up it could need replacing.
Don't forget to bias those 201s properly - they're fussy buggers when it comes to current...
Wildo, thanks.

Yes - seen the Kreuzer, but the AlemFET has a vero layout ! I'd love to try making my own boards - one day maybe.
  5. That's stunning. I'd have that off you in a trice if I could even slightly kid myself I can afford it. Good luck with the sale.
If it's going in a 1U then you've got space for a 'Mids' knob, surely…?
It has mids the connections are down at the bottom right Here's the schematic it's taken from. https://sites.google...chemRevised.png The vero layout misses out the resistor on the supply (current limiting ?) and the bright switch.

I'm mulling this over as my next project - a JFET-based version of the Alembic F-2B preamp. I've always fancied building a 1U bass preamp - though this would be a good place to start. Anyone built anything similar ? I did have a version of the 'Flipster' JFET version of an Ampeg Portaflex, but didn't like the EQ that much.
  8. Naaah, it's all bits of wrong.
This is the one I have used. What I think would help is a boost on the clean side, I am thinking of the LPB-1, as I have the parts already, but I am not sure where to insert it. Can anyone help?
If I'm reading it correctly (I hope !), the transistor on the right is acting as a buffer for the clean signal, and the pot mixes the clean and effected sound. You could put your booster inbetween the board and the pot. I'd be wary of using an LBP-1 as they invert the phase of your signal, which won't get on well with the effects loop. Could you change the circuit slightly to get some variable gain out of the 2nd transistor ?
  10. Sold my Status T-bass to Ash. Lovely guy to deal with, kept in touch and made the whole process a pleasure.
  11. Fingerstyle, I usually play over the neck pickup, so rest my thumb on the pickup when playing the E. I can float if needs be, but I find this way to help with damping.
  12.
Go over Thomann's head and contact Sandberg directly with this issues. I'm sure that they'll take care of you and find a way to make Thomann deliver you a perfectly biuld and setup bass. It's bad enought that these passed Sandberg's QC but it's even worst that Thomann is trying to sell them. These basses need to go back to the factory and be fixed/binned.
Agreed - I think Sandberg would be very interested to know. Sandbergs are a high-end bass - I'd expect a flawless instrument if I were to buy one new. (Very unlikely to happen, but still.... )
It's not the brightness. Turning on the red actually, physically turns the others off, even though the blue and green can be on together. And it's a common anode, so there is only one resistor.
OK, hopefullly someone else has had more experience with them.
  15.
...with a bad attitude.
Me? Awww, c'mon...I play nice. Most of the time
The problem is that when the red part is on it completely takes over, I don't mean it outshines the other colours, the other colours won't glow. It will do the green and the blue at the same time, but if you have either the blue or the green glowing and you kick in the red, the other colour will shut off and you just get the red. The green and blue at the same times looks rubbish. Is this normal? I think this pedal might be cursed.
Could you tweak the values of the current limiting resistors to tame the relative brightness ? I'm guessing here as I've never used an RGB LED.
  17.
Now that looks good! Bit worried that the blurb continually refers to overdrive, hopefully it can be used simply a a volume boost... GAK also suggested the Behringer PB 100 - even cheaper - but the tone knobs look like unnecessary extras.
How much the LPB-1 overdrives is really down the to slight variations in component values in a given unit. I've modded mine to reduce the propensity to overdrive, but bear in mind it's not a terribly flat boost. I'd try and get hold of a 2nd hand MXR MicroAmp, it does roll off slightly below ~12Hz but I reckon only the cetacean members of the audience would mind For those who are interested there's a detailed analysis on the Electrosmash site here
  18.
Fancy starting a band ?
As long as you don't mind a smoker of any kind....
  19.
"Only bass guitarists with video samples will be considered." I am surprised they didn't ask for a Urine sample as well.
That really would be taking the piss. You set 'em up, I'll knock 'em down

  22.
I was wondering if the "no smoking of any kind" was a drugs reference
I'd imagine so... "Right, we're quite strict about smoking in the band... you don't smoke cigarettes do you ?" "Good God,no...just crack"
  23.
Seems such a shame not to gig favourite/valuable instruments for fear of having them stolen. Hardly worth having them.
It is indeed a shame, but I know I'd be heartbroken if it got stolen or damaged, so needs must when the devils gets his bus pass out...
  24.
Fear of theft is the reason my 73 Precision stays home most of the time.
Same here - I have a stunt Jazz (a Squier CV with upgraded pickups) that goes to any dodgy spots and my 85 MIJ Fender Jazz stays at home.
