I'm sort of oldschool when it comes to dirt boxes and always though about using two classic things with bass. First is Rangie style germanium booster with range control to boost not only treble, but also mids and bass. Second is modified Fuzz Face - fuzz fixed at maxed, and instead of fuzz control, there is a pre-gain control to mimic rolling down your guitar's volume knob. Of course it cuts bass a bit, but still works great even in heavy mix.
Very nice indeed - super neat wiring. Can I ask, what tone control did you use before the Ge booster ? - I have a spare one made up from a kit that I dug out the other day.
6. Do you know how old the bass is ? Thanks
7. Is the jury still out on the MXR Bass Preamp ? My vote would be for the Tronographic Rusty Box, but I know that has a 'sound' so it's not for everyone. Mind you - that into an Orange bass stack at last practice...sounded awesome.
8. Bought a VFE compressor from Peter, met up in London - did the deal at Victoria station. Thoroughly nice chap - I'd not hesitate to deal with him again.
9. And Sold !
10. And replied - hope to see you this evening
11. The Joyo Ultimate Drive is supposed to be very close to an OCD.

15. I guess the others have gone walkies over the years. At least it's rattle-free.
16.
Over the past 2 months plastic shims have come out of my Mex P bass tuners. Does this usually happen? Does not seem to be causing a problem. Photo shows one on the way out and the other which came out yesterday.
Are they the metal ones ? Odd they've come out - never heard of it before to be honest.
17. Thanks
18. Velcro Pelmet. Ace name !
19. Time to let the the shark go.... It pains me to sell this, as I've always liked having a Status as I hail from Essex Also it's a cracking bass - beautiful neck, very evenly balanced and a lovely throaty, punchy sound. Wooden necked with graphite reinforcing so very even-sounding all over the fretboard. It's got a few minor dings here and there - there's a tiny dink in the fretboard, about the size of a matchhead, behind the third fret by (but not under) the D-string. Barely noticeable and I'd forgotten it was there to be honest. On the back of the bass there's a large patch of gaffer tape reisdue that came from the previous owner - he tried all sorts of things to remove it, but to no avail. It's not sticky and you don't notice it when the bass is strapped on. It's not pretty but at least you'll always know which Status Shark is yours ! Flickr album here [s]£270 shipped in hard case with Interparcel. UK Only.[/s] SOLD
20. I'd be interested in how you get on. I've generated a lot of ply off-cuts working on my kitchen, which are begging to be put to musical use.
21.
It's a huge, sythny, self-oscillating fuzz. Sounds immense on bass, but has the ability to emit crazy tones and drones between notes etc. Controls are Volume, Frequency (of the oscillating note), Sensitivity (hard to explain in this context, but changes the synth like quality in accordance to your playing), and Threshold (from no oscillation, to oscillating the moment your finger isn't striking a string). Serious noise-makers pedal, and one of the nastiest bass fuzzes I've ever owned.
Thanks for the info. I'll have a ponder.
22. Could you tell me a bit about the Mangler Fuzz - what are the controls ?
