  1. Every Thumb NT4 I have owned (5) has not suffered what I consider to be neck dive i.e. the headstock trying to drop below parallel, to the extent where my left arm is doing work to keep it up. Conversely, every NT or BO 5 I have had (admittedly just 2) has had neck dive. I had a BO 5 that I absolutely loved sitting down, but it was unplayable standing.
  2. I'd always recommend trying a Warwick built between 1999 and 2008 in person before handing over money. Dog years for Warwick QC, so many badduns, particularly between 2000 and 2003.
  3. Just looking at the pics released, have they got rid of the nicest (for me) feature, the light reddish wood fretboard?
  4. Brand new unopened set of heavy NYXL strings. Bought two, they don't suit what I need so I don't need the 2nd. Price includes postage. Would happily trade for a super light set, in the unlikely event anyone has one! Now sold, cheers.
  5. TBF that's a pretty good price in 2023 for a Thumb, shops would have it up for £2k.
  6. Think it's safe to say Bass Direct will have a few of them, probably worth keeping an eye out, or even hitting Mark up now if you're serious about wanting one.
  7. Shame about the stripes, that would have been realllly tasty without those, which are a little distracting. Still, cool bass to own, chinese Dingwalls have gone a bit bonkers price wise, but then again what hasn't...
  8. Nice work dude! Sounds great, and what a looker too! Must admit, after listening to the intro of the first track, I did have a quick glance at who mixed the track and did a little smile to myself

    Neural Quad Cortex

This may (or may not!) be of any use or help to anyone considering a QC, but last week my band released a single and its the first bit of bass I've recorded and released using solely the Quad Cortex! For this I used two scenes; one a heavily distorted bass heavy track using Darkglass captures, compression and Bergantino IRs, spit across two lanes (distortion on high mids/highs only); second was a modulated chorus tone for the cleans in the verses. Would love to know what you guys think! (goes without saying, listen with decent phones/speakers!)
  10. Beautiful, congrats!!
  11. You have to look at buying this and dropping 4x more on a used German SSI and wonder how much difference there can possibly be. This has to be the best value bass on the forum!
  12. I don't know why Ibanez persist with the chinese licensed Barts, they're terrible things IMO. So dark and lacking any real excitement in the mid or highs, it's no wonder Bartolini gets a bad name when these licensed jobbies are in so many budget instruments (US Barts are a completely different kettle of fish). I'd much rather they put Nordies or any other decent pickup in and dropped the preamp to save costs etc. Frustratingly, I love the roasted maple neck on some of these, but every one with a neck like that on is equipped with those Barts. And they're an awkward size to replace too (6 string bass pickup shape, so only bar magnet 6 models will fit).
  13. @Willfunk Food for thought? 😂
  14. To me, it feels wide. I have had a few 4 string Dingwalls and long term have never got on with them. Defintely a P feel for me, but I never measured it. Defintely doesn't feel anything like a 38mm neck.
  15. Gets an endorsement from me too! Hugely useful piece of kit, replaced FAR more gear than it cost.
  16. It's not a new one to this thread, but may I present my entry into le club:
  17. Check out my bands new single if you have a minute?

      Very good indeed.

  18. So as well as building the best modern style basses money can buy, you also hoard traditional beauties like this?! 😍 Beauty buddy!
  19. For those who follow my band (and anyone that fancies a little melodic progressive metal), we released a new single today, complete with a music video involving yours truly climbing out of a self dug hole in the woods in the middle of a very cold January. If you have chance, please take a look! Cheers! Spotify:
  20. Lovely bass!! Just for the sake of clarity though, this bass isn't a Masterbuilt bass, it's a special edition model from 2008. The Masterbuilt instruments with all their features didn't come in for almost a decade later 🙂. Still, best corvette you could grab at the time!
  21. Any chance of a video or audio clip of what this sounds like?
  22. Up for sale I have a bit of a unique bass, built by Hungarian luthier Blasius! This bass was built for hungarian musician Miklós Anga Kis to his exacting specs. Year: 2020 Topwood: Black Poplar Bodywood: Roasted Poplar Core Neck: Maple neck with Graphite reinforcement - multiscale 36" to 34" Fretboard: Highly figured Ash Fretboard Pickups: EMG Pickups Preamp: Zolkow 3x Preamp Hardware: Hipshot Tuners and Bridge. Sadowsky knobs. Schaller strap buttons. Since factory, the original EMG DC pickups have been upgraded to the top end TWX pickups, with the original volume/blend control swapped out for the TWX push-pull volume pots to switch between humbucker and single coil mode. The original volume/blend are still taped up in the control cavity. The Zolkow preamp is a thing of genius. It's a 3 band preamp with 12 internal dipswitches that control the frequencies of the bass, mids and treble. Attached is a PDF (kindly provided by Papaya) that goes through how to set the switches for different frequencies (its not in english but its fairly obvious). It also has a battery light indicator which reassuringly flashes green 3 times when the battery is fresh, twice if it's somewhat used, once when it's nearly out and flashes SOS when the battery is dead. (thanks to Peter for this info!) I've given the bass a full setup, neck is dead straight, action very low. The bass is currently set up for drop F# tuning with fresh Payson Drop G set strings and sounds absolutely HUGE, however can easily be reverted to regular B standard without issue with the zero fret. The nut behind the fret is carved from a lovely piece of wenge. Condition is great. The previous owner liked to experiment and added two additional strap buttons on the lower horn and near the arm contour, these have been removed but the small holes remain. It has a couple of nicks and scratches, most significant being the bottom of the fretboard being chewed up a little by someone apparantly using a short allen key to adjust the neck (the nut is quite deep, i'll include a tool with the sale that doesn't damage the bass...). Neck is wonderful and the fretboard is quite something. This bass would cost around £3k new. It pains me to sell but for some reason it's just not working out for me. Fresh pics below taken this afternoon. Also linked is a few videos of the bass in action, the first being made by Blasius and the other two from the previous owner. The bass did not come with any case but I can include a Stagg Ndura gig bag. Collection HUGLEY preferred as I have a distrust of couriers, happy to drive some distance to meet up. Courier a last resort at your risk/cost. Cash is king but trade offers welcome. zolkowpreamps_223_v2_bekotes_hu.pdf
  23. Absolutely stunning, and must say your photography showcases it far better than the studio pics!
