      Very good indeed.

  2. So as well as building the best modern style basses money can buy, you also hoard traditional beauties like this?! 😍 Beauty buddy!
  3. For those who follow my band (and anyone that fancies a little melodic progressive metal), we released a new single today, complete with a music video involving yours truly climbing out of a self dug hole in the woods in the middle of a very cold January. If you have chance, please take a look! Cheers! Spotify:
  4. Lovely bass!! Just for the sake of clarity though, this bass isn't a Masterbuilt bass, it's a special edition model from 2008. The Masterbuilt instruments with all their features didn't come in for almost a decade later 🙂. Still, best corvette you could grab at the time!
  5. Any chance of a video or audio clip of what this sounds like?
  6. Up for sale I have a bit of a unique bass, built by Hungarian luthier Blasius! This bass was built for hungarian musician Miklós Anga Kis to his exacting specs. Year: 2020 Topwood: Black Poplar Bodywood: Roasted Poplar Core Neck: Maple neck with Graphite reinforcement - multiscale 36" to 34" Fretboard: Highly figured Ash Fretboard Pickups: EMG Pickups Preamp: Zolkow 3x Preamp Hardware: Hipshot Tuners and Bridge. Sadowsky knobs. Schaller strap buttons. Since factory, the original EMG DC pickups have been upgraded to the top end TWX pickups, with the original volume/blend control swapped out for the TWX push-pull volume pots to switch between humbucker and single coil mode. The original volume/blend are still taped up in the control cavity. The Zolkow preamp is a thing of genius. It's a 3 band preamp with 12 internal dipswitches that control the frequencies of the bass, mids and treble. Attached is a PDF (kindly provided by Papaya) that goes through how to set the switches for different frequencies (its not in english but its fairly obvious). It also has a battery light indicator which reassuringly flashes green 3 times when the battery is fresh, twice if it's somewhat used, once when it's nearly out and flashes SOS when the battery is dead. (thanks to Peter for this info!) I've given the bass a full setup, neck is dead straight, action very low. The bass is currently set up for drop F# tuning with fresh Payson Drop G set strings and sounds absolutely HUGE, however can easily be reverted to regular B standard without issue with the zero fret. The nut behind the fret is carved from a lovely piece of wenge. Condition is great. The previous owner liked to experiment and added two additional strap buttons on the lower horn and near the arm contour, these have been removed but the small holes remain. It has a couple of nicks and scratches, most significant being the bottom of the fretboard being chewed up a little by someone apparantly using a short allen key to adjust the neck (the nut is quite deep, i'll include a tool with the sale that doesn't damage the bass...). Neck is wonderful and the fretboard is quite something. This bass would cost around £3k new. It pains me to sell but for some reason it's just not working out for me. Fresh pics below taken this afternoon. Also linked is a few videos of the bass in action, the first being made by Blasius and the other two from the previous owner. The bass did not come with any case but I can include a Stagg Ndura gig bag. Collection HUGLEY preferred as I have a distrust of couriers, happy to drive some distance to meet up. Courier a last resort at your risk/cost. Cash is king but trade offers welcome. zolkowpreamps_223_v2_bekotes_hu.pdf
  7. Absolutely stunning, and must say your photography showcases it far better than the studio pics!
  8. That boire 4 is dreamy...
  9. The Octave Divider is a brilliant clone so can't wait to hear this!
  10. You may be in luck, i'm in full dither mode so its there for the taking 🙃
  11. In a weird situation where I have £1k-£1.2k to spend on a new bass and I just can't find anything I want in that range 🙃

      Two options:

      1. Just put the money aside until something appears

      2. Find a luthier who'll build something that you do want, pop the £1200 down as a deposit and save up the balance while you wait for the build to complete...

Option 1 makes most sense, option 2 is best though, of course.

I travelled around 300/400 miles to various locations in Scotland/York/Leeds/NE to try out gear that was either in stock else where, or unique to locations.

Took me 2 years to spend the money and I'm still not happy as the shielding/ground is still an issue (fking Charvel is doing my head in).  So I feel your pain.

I did think about making a Custom bass. - Lambo Orange Jazz, Roasted maple 12' Radius Neck with black hardware and Delano pickups + John East Pre-amp.  (I still do...)

My list after a long time came down to:

And now I'm quite enjoying a Musicman SUB I picked up for £200 quid.... Swings and roundabouts!

Firstly, @Ruarlbeat me to my suggestion ;)
Secondly, I'm with @eude- if there's nothing grabbing your attention currently, then hang on to the dosh until something crops up.
Otherwise you may end up getting something you don't gel with.... and sod's law - something you really fancy then turns up!
option 3 though, is that I'm sure I should sell something ha ha

  12. Need to raise cash so up for sale is this brilliant PSU. You know what it is, basically the best PSU out there for powering your pedalboard. Perfect working order, velcro residue on bottom, comes with box and cables. Also includes 3 x 8800 parallel adapaters for combining output MA to power the Neural DSP Quad Cortex, which is what I mainly used it for! PSU is around £210 new and the 8800's are about a fiver each, so I think this price is fair. Pics will be posted a little later on today, but its just a power unit at the end of the day Cheers Edit: Withdrawn for now as my alternative solution to using this doesn't work 🙃
  13. That's lovely! Don't see many around like that. How old is it?
  14. It's a real looker! What is the benefit of the scalloped frets? And is the relicing limited to just those two edges on the front?
  15. Looks lovely! It's it staying natural?? Hope so as that's going to pop like nobody's business when oiled!
  16. As someone still part of such a metal scene, can confirm not a lot has changed in that regard!
  17. Indeed! Though a Japanese luthier build here would be quite surprising Factory built basses in the Far East are very linear these days, in that the more the big "Western" company pay them, the better the bass is!
  18. No he didn't? I am intrugued by these, are these a Far East jobby or do Nordstand build them? Assuming the former as they seem very keenly priced!
  19. I'll look at it the other way and be disbelieving about how expensive they are now! I think I paid £1,100 for a new NG2 in what must have been around 2014/2015, and at the time I thought that was a HUGE amount of money for a Far East instrument. And now they're over £2k...
  20. “…fatter necks actually are better suited for proper playing technique (thumb in the middle of the neck, playing with tip of curved fingers)." Define fatter? And what shapes are these necks? As C/D/V/Asymmetric etc all have very different feels as far as the thumb goes. Are slimmer necks better suited for certain carves? And how does nut width enter into it? Take a 6 string bass, how fat are you wanting that neck, as they are usually very flat in comparison to a 4? As a standalone sentence, your claim here isn't substantiated. "The distance from the pushing fingers gets smaller to the string and the hand gets a better grip or “strength” thanks to a more solid contact to the actual neck." I honestly don't know what you're trying to say here to refute it. If you can reword it I'll have a go! "Less “air playing” equals less distance, more strength, less movement with the resulting increased control…thin necks are not “faster” or “smoother” or “better” for anyone but someone with REALLY small hands aka: children” " Again, for me the nut width/width of the neck and the carve shape has a much greater impact on all of this than the depth of the carve. How "fast" a slim neck feels is entirely subjective to the person and their playing style and technique. Certainly not just for people with REALLY small hands.
