1. Shan't bother you with the whole story, but the band I'm currently with was essentially thrown together for a one-off gig. The setlist was pretty much decided before I got involved - uninspiring and not at all my cup of tea, but easy to get to grips with in a short time. So I did it...and loved it, and over 2 years down the road I'm still loving it. The material has changed quite a bit in that time. We've introduced some stuff that's more up my street, and we're still doing stuff that I'm not very keen on but the others are. Bit of give & take, eh? I look on it as a chance to play some styles etc that I probably wouldn't touch otherwise. Me? I'd do it, or at least give it a crack.
2. I've had a couple of pairs of the in-ear jobies, and I've been disappointed with them - both in the sound and build quality. I've a couple of pairs of their proper headphones though, which I really like - one pair must be 20 years old now, and still going strong.
3. 160 quid? 85 quid from thomann... Sure you're not confusing the SM58 with the Beta 58? (which can be had new for 130 quid...)
4.
I don't think it's through speakon. I think it's through the effects send on the back. There should be detail in the manual
That'd be my guess too - effects send (preamp out) of one, into the effects return (power amp in) of t'other. As said though, check the manual...
5. With 2 x 8Ohm cabs, the available power will be split equally between the two - so 110W into each. Personally speaking, if I liked the sound of the 15 and simply wanted more of it, I'd go with another 15...
6. Looks essentially the same to me - just a slightly different layout. re: the inputs - yours has 2 inputs, while the manual shows a single input and a switch. So instead of leaving the instrument plugged into a single jack and pushing a button to switch between the two, you'd need to unplug the lead from yours and pop it back in the other jack socket. It doesn't really matter which one you use - just go for whichever one sounds best. Personally, I'd prefer the 2 jack arrangement, like yours has. As others have said, the jack plug hanging out the back should be connected to the internal speaker. You'll need to pop it into one of the speaker outputs to make it work, or leave it unplugged and you can use external speaker/s you wish - minimum load 4Ohm, so a single 4Ohm cab or a pair of 8Ohm cabs. The internal speaker will be 8Ohm, so you'll get less than the max. power from the unit if you only use the internal speaker...something like 200Watts, I'd guess.
7. Westone Thunder 1 - it's not for sale though.
8. IIRC the power connector on these is on the back, while the "head" is mounted vertically with the controls on top. In which case, should you remove it and mount it in a home made sleeve, you'd have the controls on the front and the power connector on top! Workable, I guess, but odd. And once you start chopping it about, it's essentially worth four fifths of bugger all. I'd keep it as is, or sell it and put the money towards something more suitable.
9. Well...I've used 'em for 2 gigs now. I play a mixture of fingers & pick, depending on what toonz I'm playing - with the current band, that amounts to about a half dozen with a pick, per gig. My initial thought when I got hold of these was that the plastic in the middle is pretty thin - much thinner than the picks I normally use - and I found them a bit too bendy for my liking, and that, combined with the extra thickness of the felt, made it all feel a bit strange and "hit 'n' miss" for me. As others have noted, the felt started wearing away very quickly for me (steel round strings...), and after a very short time was worn away to the extent that I was effectively playing with a normal pick. Then, towards the end of the second gig, the tip broke off. I'm glad to have had the chance to try them, and hats off to Gareth for doing the legwork allowing me to do so, but I'll be sticking with my usual (big & stiff) plastic ones.
10. I fit all of my gear, plus the bits of PA that live at my house, with room for a passenger, in an X reg Corsa
11. It's for the DI - either pre/post EQ or ground lift. Nothing to do with the speaker outputs.
12. Mine arrived today, just in time for tonights gig Cheers matey - thanks for doing the legwork, much obliged.
13.
This was it: http://www.dc-develo...ll_PedalAmp.htm looks nice, but PRICEY!!!! £690!!!
ISTR seeing something along those lines in the for sale here a short while ago... Edit: found it... http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Can't see what the asking price was, as the OP has removed it (grrrr...) but according to the link in the post they're 150 quid new.
14.
Isn't new content for...well new content? And if you've posted an ad, you've read it? Any updates to the thread then would appear in New content. I thought?
I thought too! When I post anything, the thread goes to the top of the list as the newest, but it's marked as though I've already read it...which I have. I've always assumed this was as intended, and makes perfect sense to me.
15.
TBH the Epi VJ & similar aren't really practice amps, and if you crank one loud enough for overdrive it will be too loud for most households.
I sold a WEM Power Musette a while ago, for exactly that reason. Lovely sound, but to get any amount of break-up it had to be driven far too loud for home practice. Replaced it with a Peavey Valve King Royal 8. It's not up there with the WEM tone-wise, but it does sound remarkably good for what it is (and what I paid for it) and as a home practice amp it's much more usable.
16.
I`ve seen a few bassists play wrong lines, but I`d never go up to them and tell them
If you want to tell me about my wrong (actually, I prefer "different") lines, the back of the queue's out the pub, and up past the butchers
17.
one of those bands i WANT to like, but struggling to (if you know what I mean)
Wanted, struggled & failed miserably...
18. I'll have a couple if there's any still up for grabs and it's not too much hassle.
19. I'm up for it, if you're still looking for interested parties.
20. http://barefacedbass.com/technical-information.htm ---x--- For breaking-in new woofers:

25Hz Sine Wave.
When a high performance pro-audio woofer is fresh out of the box its suspension is very stiff. This means that the woofer is over-damped in the low frequencies compared to its design parameters, resulting in thinner bass response and lower efficiency. It also means that the woofer is under-damped in the mid and high frequencies, resulting in worse control of the higher frequency break-up modes and thus a harsher sound. During the first few hours of high SPL use the suspension loosens up and settles into its long-term design parameters. Unlike a brand new car you do not need to baby the loudspeaker whilst it's still 'running in' and in fact the louder you play it, the quicker it'll loosen up (but don't be silly, modern amps are powerful!) Play a few loud gigs or rehearsals and your cab will reach its destination tone and performance. Alternatively, play the 25Hz sine wave above through your rig, with the volume turned up so that the air movement from the port feels like a desk fan on low, not like a hair dryer on high. If you have a steel grill cab you'll see the woofer(s) moving about 1/2". Leave it like that for as long as you can bear the rumble - three hours will get you a good distance along the break-in curve, which is reversal exponential, so the first five minutes make as much difference as the last fifty minutes. ---x---
21.
huh?? how the hell whould the font style make a difference(as long as you can read it) to someone choosing this amp or not?. Btw way ...great amp :-) and great font :-)
The important bit here is "as long as you can read it" I first saw (as opposed to read) the OP using Firefox on a Linux system. Some of it was sort-of readable, but it was full of markup stuff and I couldn't make much sense of the content. Switching to my iPhone - it appears as tiny italic script, which was as good as unreadable. I guess in both of these cases there was some font substitution going on due to the original MS font being unavailable. It's only now, almost a week later, on a Windows machine, that I'm able to make sense of the OP. Just saying... Nice amp, BTW.
22. The only HH bass gear I've used was a best forgotten loaned head and 1x15 cab many years ago. It was awful - not a patch on the Acoustic kit I was using at the time.
23.
I've just received a JJ ECC833 to try in my LH500 - no real need, but I'm curious and saw it recommended somewhere. Hope to get chance to slot in in over the weekend - I'll report my findings back here.
Whoops - typo...that should have read ECC83s Popped it in at the weekend - at noodling around at home volume it sounds a bit different, but not massively so. Perhaps a bit warmer and more rounded in the lows, and the highs don't sound quite as shrill as the Sovtek 12AX7 that was in there. Definitely quieter though
24. ---x--- If you live near Brighton you can arrange to collect your cab rather than have it couriered. ---x--- http://barefacedbass.com/ordering-and-availability.htm
