1. Just completed a slightly convoluted deal whereby Pablo, whom I've never met or had any dealing with before, sent me a rather large sum of money, so that I could go buy an Akai deep Impact from a guy just down the road from me, which I then forwarded on to Pablo. The whole thing was a pleasure from start to finish - with prompt, informative and friendly comms throughout, and everything done exactly how he said he'd do it, when he said he'd do it. Deal with confidence folks. The only downside? I'm now GASsing for a Deep Impact !
2.
Ian, thank you very much for all your help!
No probs Pablo - glad to help. Hasn't done my GAS any good though...damn you !
3.
Typical superb Basschatter, well done that man!
You ain't seen the amps yet...!
4.
How about setting up a temporary thread for amp loans? There are some superb people on here. If somebody has their TC away for repair, they put up a post on the thread for where they are and when they need an amp to bail them out? I am sure plenty of us will help a local member if we can. Cheers, Karl.
I was thinking along those lines too! I've currently got three amp heads here that I'd gladly loan if anybody's stuck.
5. After the recent experiment with felt picks, my cyber-wanderings led me to http://www.ukulele-plectrums.co.uk/
6.
If you're worried, try the bass through the active input which may give you more control with the gain knob
+1 If the bass has a particularly hot (high output) pickup, then using the active input basically just attenuates the signal a bit and makes the preamp stage a bit more controlable.
7. I'd have thought that for active you'd want instrument (screened) type leads, while passive would be best served with speaker cables. BICBW...
8. Active/passive bass? Does the amp have two different inputs? Despite what the needle's doing, does it sound OK?
9. Me, I''d strip the old stuff off and paint it with something like the Tuff Cab paint that Bluearan sell.
10.
Due to various things going on I haven't touched my basses in about 2 months. Plugged one in today...and I can't play. Not a thing. No rhythm, no nothing. And what's more, I don't want to play. I've no interest in bass or bands. It's all completely gone.
I've had similar. Somewhere around '02 the band I was with at the time kinda drifted apart for a number of reasons, and after our last gig I didn't even pick up a bass for some 7-8 years. Just couldn't be arsed, which was possibly part of the reason for the band folding. I noodled around at home a bit with an acoustic guitar and developed a dirty banjo habit, but had no urge for the bass at all. Just stacked all my gear under the stairs and left it there... ...until mid 2010, when some mates got in touch asking if I'd be up for a one-off gig for a laugh in a local pub. So I did it, and had a whale of a time. The one-off scratch band is still together, getting more gigs than we can do, and I think I'm enjoying playing more than I've ever done. As others have said, if you don't wanna play, don't. Life's short mate - do stuff you do want to do.
11.
I bought a white P bass from a shop that I shall not name! and it was THE worst bass I've owned. It felt very cheap, factory set up was awful, frets were poor and rough at the ends and overall for £493 it was a bad investment. It didn't come with a fender bag, the shop gave me a cheap shoddy bag when I asked where the Fender bag was that was supposed to come with it. I had it overnight and took it back the next day and exchanged it for a different bass altogether.
Similar-ish story here - I was looking at things at that sort of price point a while back, and after trying several MIM Fenders in a couple of different shops I just couldn't convince myself that I'd be spending my money wisely. Ended up taking a punt on a used Tanglewater Classic J from here (at half the price) which I'm very very pleased with.
12. What's the width at the nut, and what're the heel dimensions please ?
13. Yeh - I thought BDI-21 too, and hasn't Loz already got one?
14. I bought a 2nd hand Zoom B2 for those occasions when a bit of fuzz/wah/flanger/whatever is called for, but won't get used enough to warrant a dedicated pedal.
15.
Ive found the more ive used picks the less they slip. I think there must be something in the technique that develops naturally as it doesnt really happen anymore
+1 I find that the less I think about it, and grip the pick like there's no tomorrow, the less It tries to get away.

17. Bought a rack bag from Dave, in a totally painless & hassle-free transaction. Cheers buddy.
18. Oh - in that case, feel free to drop me a PM. Peacehaven?
19. Scrub that - different Cambourne. (can't see location on the mobile site)
20.
What does a Hartke LH500 go for these days? Even brand new they can't be much more than £300. Get a used one for maybe £200. Great value and great amps.
Currently 248 quid from Thomann ! Not everybodys cup of tea obviously, but I love mine. An awful lot of amp for the money IMO.
21. Drop me a PM if you like. I'm 15 mins drive from Cambourne and only too glad to help out if I can. Assuming it's Cambourne near Cambridge...!
22. Half of 34 inches, I suspect...nut to twelfth fret ?
23. Are you assuming you need a 15 to get the lows? Don't.
24. About 12 seconds here too, before the protection circiutry kicks in (out?) and it's usable. Is it the same if you power it up without a speaker connected?
25. Bloody fabulous amp. Lovely & warm, super clean, and loud as f***
