1. Missed the post on this Derren, not far from me either. MUST check Basschat more regularly.
2. Have you tried turning the DB through 90 degrees, slimming down the body, shortening the neck and fitting a pickup between the bridge and the neck joint? Works every time for me.
3. You could do a whole lot worse than a Dave Hall DI/EQ. They can be phantom powered from the desk and will allow you to EQ the DI out and the feed to your amp independently. I love mine. It's always with me on any gig just in case. http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page42.html
4.
Actually it was 'I bet this turns up on Basschat'
I reckon it was more like "great, now I have to pack up his gear as well as the PA."
5. That's badness. Just badness. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:92044]
6.
i think hi ho silver lining should be a lawful excuse for GBH
True dat. Whenever I dep for bands I'll always ask for a setlist in advance. Usually I'll make an excuse about "Oh, Hi Ho Silver lining is offensive to short people, goldsmiths and tailors - so on those grounds I respectfully request its withdrawal" or similar to try to avoid playing it.
7. All the best with your new gaff, Ian. hope you and yours get settled quick-pronto.
8. I've been in the reverse situation. I'm wholeheartedly a finger player, though I was once doing a studio job and I suggested that I use a pick for one particular track, which was very much frowned upon. I won in the end, and everyone agreed that it DID sound better within the context of the track. Bit of a moral victory, as I had cramps in my thumb for hours afterwards. Hey Ho. As bassists we're there to serve the track. That's it.
9. Ooooh, nice Taurus!
10. I'm an artist. I've been to college and everything. Seriously though, I tend to write all the stuff too, so I've got a foot in both camps.
11.
Got hard disks full of those
Ooooh, a boxset.
12. I tend to write in Sibelius, then bounce the MIDI file into protools. From then on I'll just replace each part as and when the opportunity arises. Most of my drum tracks come from easy drummer, whether it's importing loops or a MIDI drum kit (I know, it's cheating, but in my defence, how many drummers do you know who are happy to switch between irregular meters all day?). The guitars are generally done by my brother in his lounge (nice, big room) using Mid/Side mic'ing (generally), then the keys, bass and vocals are done back at mine - usually at my kitchen table - from then on I leave them for a couple of weeks. When I go back to them if I still like the track/arrangement then I'll push it forwards, if not, then it's one for the "we thought this was all sh*te when he was alive, but now he's dead and we still need to recoup" album that'll be released 'post mortem'. What a happy thought.
13. Well done that man, I absolutely love my GR, best filter I've had.
14. Yup, it's an Uumph special. Sold Pending.
15. Tiny wee silver true bypass looper. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:91722] It's the one at bottom right - just below the big Dave Hall box of treats. £20 posted to mainland UK Brilliant for taking 'tone-sucking' pedals out of the loop (currently it's got an old big muff in, and I use the looper to remote switch the fuzz circuit on and off).
16. Bright Onions Triple Looper still around? If so then I'll take it. PMed
17. "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" by charles Mingus is just beautiful, one of my all time favourite 'slowies' also "Darling Nikki" by Prince.
18. "Evilive" by the Misfits. Appalling quality recording of some almost-falling-apart horror punk performances. The bass tone is superbly dirty and the attitude is incredible. Jerry Only used to have his bass tuned E,A, E, A just in case he broke one.
19.
They've seen it all before and played by better players so NO Jaco and definitely NO slapping! Try an arrangement of this:
Didn't Jaco do one of these already? http://youtu.be/Zd6DTRywF7Q

Boss LS2

Ok, what's the deal with the LS2? I'm toying with upgrading my looper to one that has two independent loops, and will allow me to blend in the clean signal. Am I better off (though not financially) getting a boutique/custom jobby or is the LS2 "all that"? answers on a saucy seaside postcard please.
21. Just upgraded my Protools system, so I've currently got a spare M Box Mini Details here: http://www.dv247.com...ols-8-le--37080 Doesn't have the software, but the specs for the s/n and I/O are the same. Complete with USB lead. I can post to UK for £55. Any takers?
22.
This http://basschat.co.u...mer-ct/page__hl So I bought it last month It's the best bass ever.
I saw a picture of that on another thread recently, and meant to compliment you on that particular instrument Nigel. I'm not normally a fan of Warwicks, but that, sir, is a beauty. I'm more than happy with my 5 string Blade - one of the few constants of my setup - but I'd never say never...
