  1. Just finished up building and boxing an F Deck high pass filter and can honestly say it's a real game changer through my Ampeg rig. Most of the time what it does isn't audible, but speaker excursion is visibly reduced, meaning my rig is operating more efficiently than without it. Wow.
  2. The difference between the crybaby and the bass version is indeed the 10nf (0.01µf) to a 68nf (0.068µf). a 47nf (0.047) will get more low end, but a 68nf will be better. It certainly won't damage anything.
  3. Best be quick, I hear he’s not long for this world!
  4. John Giblin for me please - he's single-handedly responsible for some of my all time favourite bass playing.
  5. The major Influences on my Dad's side were the Beach Boys and Dire Straits, my Mum is a Queen fan, so it's all good in the hood. Along the way I picked up thrash metal, prog rock, disco, funk, Jazz etc...
  6. Do it. I love playing fretless, more so than my other two fretted basses.
  7. Agreed. He's played some of my favourite lines over the years, and is also a sickeningly good raconteur.
  8. My route would be a controller keyboard and an iPad/laptop to generate the sounds. That way you're not tied to a single block of sounds, and can swap the 'brain' as the material dictates.
  9. Tried to find a decent video of these online, but both of the ones I've seen were by people who perhaps didn't know what the knobs do.
  10. Then of course there’s Geddy Lee…
  11. Fingers for me. I’ve always used fingers and tend to gravitate towards music that favours finger style, but every now and then you’ve got an Ampeg and a P bass and if you’re playing a solid quaver rhythm it seems wrong not to.
  12. Not exactly a floor -filler, but 'Army of Me' by Björk is an obstinate strong enough to hang your hat on... Probably done on a 303 originally by the sound of it too.
  13. Bring down the birds/ groove is in the heart - herbie Hancock and dee-lite respectively. chameleon - herbie Hancock’s headhunters.
  14. A fretless Wal for £700 in the early 2000s.
  15. Pretty much anything will do the job. Obviously check that the desired output is OK with the impedance of your cabs - a 500W amp will deliver 500W into a 4Ω cabinet, but you'll get about 350W into 8Ω, and even less into a 16Ω cabinet.
  16. I always ever used my Ampeg svp pro preamp into the fx return of any other amp when we gigged with shared kit. other bassists were happy I didn’t change their settings, I was happy I didn’t have to.
  17. Just looked at the website and they don't fir Fender P bass necks. I would have thought that being arguably the best selling bass design of all time that's a bit of a swing and a miss from a design perspective.
