1. Mostly riding my bike, avoiding homework and playing computer games on a Spectrum. I wouldn't pick up the bass for another 6 years.
2. Great thread Rushbo, I'll play when I get some pics taken.
3. There's a really beautiful painting of that bass in someone's attic somewhere...
4. I put both of my basses together for less than £100 each and gig the, both fairly regularly. There's probably some folks on here that can beat theat though...
5. I've had some great sounds out of a Nux Modcore. Cheap as chips too.
6. Offer them to a local FE college that run a music course - often there's very little budget for that sort of thing, or see if a local music shop has a roster of young students who might need them.
7. Unopened new RHCP album? Probably best to keep it that way...
8.
What if it was one of Adam Clayton's?
Then you'd not mention it, and sell it as 'nearly new'.
9. Get a digital desk - have a rehearsal without said 'sound engineer' (and I use the term loosely), get a level that works for everyone, then save it as a preset. Job done!
10. Why not just use a good pair of headphones?
11.
I used to buy Bassist magazine back in the day, when it ceased publication I tore out all the transcriptions and put them in a folder. Still have that folder and Waterfalls is in there.
I remember that issue! I don't have them anymore, but I recall spending quite a bit of time learning that line ( at the tender age of 18ish); I didn't need it for any gigs, I just thought it was a great line. Turns out I was right!
12. No I wouldn't. The simple reason is if a 'big name' player has had it, then they'll have used up most of the notes.
13. Programmable pedalboard controller - user defines which pedal(s) get activated via different switches? They probably already exist though.
14. Me too: beautiful, slim necks (with black blocks and binding) and a lovely, snappy tone. Best basses ever!
15. Nice rig! Welcome back.
16. Tried these recently, but I find them a bit too chunky. they're 0.050", 0.075", 0.095" and 0.110" and cut for a four-in-line (standard 34" Fender style) headstock. Seen about 3 week's use (home playing and amazingly only 1 gig) £17 including P&P to mainland UK
17. How much power do you need?
18. Playing with exceptional drummers is a really rare treat - every moment is to be savoured.
19. Exactly; you can tell a good drummer, a bad one won't listen!
20. I'm running an SWR SM400 with the 'mid scoop' taken out. They've been out of production for about 20 years though
21. I've got a 1st Gen BF Compact, and never noticed any lack of low end. We play pretty loud (both guitarists have 100W valve amps, and drummist's kit is the size of Pluto) and I can do everything I need to with a single cab.
22. Not bad. First gig (with this band) for nearly 2 months. Pub was in the middle of a refit, so no carpets or soft furnishings; very ringy room. Good to get some new material played live and breath a bit of life into it.
23. We do a few Maiden numbers (Trooper, Hallowed, 22 Acacia Ave) at the moment, and I love every single note of them. 'Arry is a god. If you're going to only listen to one Maiden album for the rest of your life (not that I suggest you do) then it'd have to be Live After Death - it's like a 'greatest hits' but with more background noise.
24.
Thats because he has used a Jazz bass since 1980
Apart from a brief dalliance with a Wal from 1985 to 1991(ish)
25. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Rics use 300kΩ pots (everyone else uses either 250kΩ or 500kΩ), so that'll contribute a subtle nuance into the mix. FWIW I've always loved the sound and look of Rics. Tried an original 1979 one once, and haven't wanted one since; the least playable neck I ever tried.
