1. Yes a lack of serial number doesn't mean anything for a Hofner but there's something about the headstock that doesn't seem quite right, pity there's no picture of the nut. As you say most of it looks OK, good price too.
2. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271053165502?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_919wt_922 Is this a real one the tuners look like Van Gents not seen these on a Hofner before?

4. Could you pm me his details too please?
5. I've been looking at reviews and I think they are not quite what I'm really after. I like the strings on my Selmer but don't know what they are.
6. No I had a maximum price that I put on it, I think it would have needed a lot of work and these come up fairly frequently at a reasonable price in better condition.
7. It's a Watkins or Wilson Sapphire. I'm going to have a bid as I did own one years ago and it had a nice neck. These were well made instruments but the pickups were comparatively weak compared to US basses. A shortcoming common to several UK guitar manufacturers in the 60s and 70s.
8. OK thanks, what's the actual texture of the string like? You see on my bass there are E&A string with a steel coating like flat wound bass guitar strings and the D&G have a light gold/copper plasticky coating to them. I have some weedwackers but I don't want to put them on the 1/2 size as I fear they will be too low tension - I'm not too keen on their tonal qualities either! I'm not sure about the various DB bass strings but the Honey's do have good reviews. I'm looking for a string I can play rock'n'roll with occasional slap and bluegrass on.
9.
Ahh cool, Promenade is my local too, so let me know when it comes in...unless you buy it, of course! The sunburst one looks great.
Will do - I think it's the sunburst on order, if there are any QC problems Gary will sort it out with Gibson before its put on display.
10. Fascinating, thanks for posting this!
11. I just did a trade with Liam for a superb little Selmer upright, very good communication and easy to deal with. What more could you ask for? Many thanks Liam!
12. I recently sold mine for £645 it was virtually new with a bag. I'm afraid lovely though they are these don't have the same reputation as an NS or indeed an Eminence. Good luck!
13. What are these like are they quite a low tension string?
14.
Just to say if the neck is anything like the Status shark 5 I've got at the mo they are seriously easy to play it is ridiculous, have a super shallow neck bump on me
Thank, yes it is a nice neck, I too am a fan of Status Sharks as you well know! Good honest basses with fantastic necks.
15. Daz helped me trade with a fellow Basschatter by transporting a double bass up to Lancaster and taking a Precision bass down to the Wirral. Daz you are a good man! Many thanks, Ash
16. Got to say many many thanks to Daz on the forum for helping me out, what a star! Hope you found Lancaster's dreaded one way system easier on your way back to sunny Chester. Cheers mate!
17. I had one, very nice to play but it had a very weak B string and an imbalance in the sound across the strings. Could be mine was a dodgy one of course!
18. Fantastic so glad prog is on the rise again, would love to play an event like this sometime. In the meantime I'll try and get down there.
19.
Can't help but have you thought about meeting somewhere half way on a train station? Actually, we should get all double bass players here to turn up at the same place with their basses and cause chaos. Bet it would make the press!!
Bass protest group against the cuts perhaps? I've had a very generous offer from Daz above, hopefully we can work something out. We were going to meet up halfway as a last resort but I don't relish lugging an old bass on a packed train - there could be a film in here somewhere?
20. Sounds fantastic I'll pm you !bcheers
21. How old is it and where was it made? Thanks
22. Here we go - http://www.danarmstrong.org/londonbass.html That gives all the variants so you can compare yours to them. I have owned both versions and I prefer the look of the one with the shorter horns as it reminds me of the very first Gibson EBO bass. Good luck
23. There were two versions of this plus a long/short scale option. The second version had different shaped horns, it may be a camera angle fault but the horns on this look shorter than on both models. Has the bass been modified in any way prior to refinishing - also what is the neck joint like as these basses commonly need a neck reset as a result of a the glues drying out at the neck joint? Looking at the pics again this appears to be the first version as it has the 'London' logo on the fascia.
24. Wondered if anyone travels regularly between Liverpool and the North - Lakes/Scotland/North Lancs and could help me out? I want to transport a half sized double bass from the Wirral and get it up to Lancaster - I'm a non driver and my girlfriend is recovering from an operation at the moment so won't be driving for the foreseeable. The bass is a trade but I can post my part of the deal easily, both myself and my trading partner are uncomfortable dealing with couriers with such a large delicate item and thought it worth enquiring on the site. Obviously petrol costs will be reimbursed and beer tokens and good will a plenty will be bestowed upon anyone who can help! Cheers
