I got it from WD Music it wasn't a great fit at first i had to sand a little round the pick ups but was well worth it, I'm in a ska/punk band and hardly a gig goes by when i don't get offers for it.
Ta I'll "check" that out .. My mate's Ska band is covered in checkerd stuff and he's just got a jazz ... Tattsyrup Ska band
 2.
Hi Guys, While bored on my way home last night I wandered into a local pawn shop and hanging on the wall was what looks like an 80's Warwick Fortress One.... How would I be able to tell this is an old one? I have had many Warwicks myself and this is different in the way the headstock has smooth edges and the old school truss rod adjust cover but after checking the rest of the bass there was nothing that really gave any more clues... It was listed at 400 quid and is in good condition. In dire, dire need of a setup but apart from that in good condition. How much do these go for as if I can make a quick buck I will purchase it! Or shall I steer clear? Thanks
Here's a Fortress One from the bass museum site for comparison .. Fortress One
 3.
On my P and other P bass alikies that I've played with (my preferance is for side exitting jacks) I wire straight form the jack to the bridge as its the shortest piece of wire and its permanent. Soldering simple processes is not rocket science and a cheap soldering iron and solder is a shed load cheaper than a trip to your local 'shop. There is plenty of advice already on this section (search for soldering) and I believe on a thread somwhere that there was a link to a you-tube lesson in simple soldering for complete noobs!
I think that was from my cry for help on soldering .. Anyway yes the bridge earthing wire traditionally goes to the back of a pot. Re soldering I'd suggest getting the Maplins Gas soldering iron. It's transformed my soldering - I used to really hate it and fail and make a huge mess and then buy more pots or pay someone to sort it out. Now it holds no fear for me. £25 well spent... and cheaper than 10 mins of a luthier's time. Actually they are in their current sale at £20 so that's even better... 4.
Just ordered an old (80's) US P-Bass body and it's the start of my project. The plan is to strip the black paint off then respray it bright yellow, then put a Bad Ass bridge on the mofo then put a checkerboard scratchplate on (like my Jazz in my sig) finish it off with a Fender Maple neck with block inlays. Haven't decided on electrics yet. This is my first project so i expect it to end up on eBay in 2 weeks for £20 in a total mess. Pics to follow.
Sounds good ... Where did you get the checkerd chef's trousers plate, mate? Ideal for my mate's ska band ..
 5.
No 5hit? check that rusty old bracket out! How about a jig saw and piec of angle iron and a snare drum.... One person rhythm section Actually had it been done nicely with a Hohner B2B and one of those dodgey keyborad guitar alikies fro the 80s it may have had some credibility..... as it is, my dog Meg could have done one better than that ....
I think the guy made it look just as he wanted it to. See how good it looks on the video with your eyes closed ....
 6. Yep It sounds like a it's put up or move on time for the strummers.
 7. +1 Excellent in performance. That's from MAKE magazine. It's brilliant. People make all sorts of useful, useless and just bonkers things out of all sorts of stuff. http://www.makezine.com/
 8.
The problem is 3 of us think we'll be ready, the other 2 don't and refuse to play gigs until they feel 'ready'. The drummer is confident we'll do it, as are me (bassist) and the singer. It's literally the 2 guitarists.
Yeah I got that But what specifically do they think is the problem, what is not ready? Once your identify that you can fix it.
 9. I always bang in a youtube search when someone recommends something on this forum too. Nearly always there. For learning stuff for depping I use Youtube and Chordie if there's any tricky or hard to hear things. Some of the Chordie stuff is just plain wrong but there's usually a pretty accurate version as well .. and lots have the key changer as well so you transpose the chords with one click http://www.chordie.com/
 10. Just in case 5 plug daisy chain, £2.95
 11.
" we've not got enough songs, they're not tight enough "
So what is the problem? and do you mean that one guitarist won't play gigs or rehearse before the end of August? If he's not got a very good reason I'd say that was a resignation ... Just another thought: the drummer is often the key to being gig-tight. Bands are often spolied by drummers faffing about between tunes, waiting for others to be ready etc .. Just go ta-da!!!... at the end of one song and then count in the next one. That way your guitarists can relax and build on the foundations you are providing.
 12. New guitarists required....
 13.
tell them you'll play without them.
+1 Then rehearse your set without him. Make sure you rehearse well and for a gig performance not to learn the songs, that's different. Include the set intro, "last" song ending, encore and talky bits (minimise these). Choose your strongest 25 minutes and focus on it from now 'til then. Record and/or video your dress rehearsals and change the things that don't work. Set up in your rehearsal space as if it was a gig stage ie the front person performs away from the drummer and rest of the band, not facing them. That way you'll have to have cues other than eye contact. Your front person, at least, should be looking at the audience and not the other band members. Time your set accurately so you have time for the encore you will get (as you'll be taking 20 mates to cheers their heads off and to demand an encore, won't you?). Have at least one song in teh set you can drop if you start late but have to finish on time. Play the "last" tune well before your scheduled end time to leave time for the encore. Have a strong song for the encore. That's the lasting impression people will take away with them. Take 3 tunes out to an open mic night beforehand to see what it feels like. And make sure you have fun ...
 14. ESP could do with a UK name checker though... This is the Halibut and, fnaaar, fnaaar, The Bottom Bump

 16.
Having now gigged with my new 1212L I can say it works very well, it coped where I thought it wouldn't, it looked lost on a massive stage but I really don't want a big stack behind me anymore. It is a unique sound but you hear yourself amongst the guitar amps for a change instead of blending in. My only concern is Low B, it does lose a bit here but I cannot grumble for such a tiny package and the volume is huge it could run and run. It works very well with Markbass heads, can dial in some great tones I just have to get used to it but hope this time this cab will be a keeper as my back is thanking me in spades. I had doubts but this is great, my next step is trying my 40 effects pedals through it, btw the MXR+ compliments this well and just evens out things where needed.
Glad it's working out for you, Smash ..
 17. Get the combo and one of these for big gigs when you have PA support an you use the combo as a monitor
 18.
It might be worth checking if the holes aren't for XLR sockets rather than jacks - they could well be. If they are, the hole will be about 23mm in diameter. Let me know, because I could send you a pair of Speakons to fit. I''ve got some new ones I don't need.
What a very nice offer. If you can, use a speakon co sthen you'll never mix up yoru speaker lead with a guitar lead They don't pull out easily either ...

 21.
You guys are way off. Desmond Dekker Poineers Pyramids (symarip) Dave and Ansell Collins Jimmy Cliff Harry J and the Allstars Maytals Thats Ska!
Actually those people are mostly well known for their reggae rather than ska. Ska generally has a walking bass line (on a doghouse in the early days) Reggae has a lot more space in the bass.
 22. Like the medium pace Hit me in the background
 23.
I use a LMII with 2 Bergantino 1x12s and it's nice and compact and very loud too.
My MB LMK with two AE12 Bergantino 1x12's does the job too .. Not cheap but worth it.
 24. Oh and I never play the intro. The guitarist always has that down anyway.
 25.
How to make yourself look stoopid. Did he really put perfectly good pickups in the bin? Even if he had a valid reason for not liking them he could have sold them separately. The duncan designed pickups on basses I've tried (eg daisy rock) have all sounded very good to my ears.
Oh I think there's quite a bit more to that auction that causes questions about that guy's grasp on reality. He seems to have forgotten that second hand things are generally worth less than new things.
