1.
twas a joke shame you don't slap though as the fender MM and lakland 44-02 are two of my favourite basses to slap on. Proper old school!
I know don't worry I learned to slap when I was younger, but soon grew out of it. The MM is a fantastic bass, whether slapped, picked or played with fingers - I;ve noticed a couple of meta;/hardcore bands use them aswell, which shows the great range of tones that they can deliver. The MM is 'My' sound - I'll always keep hold of that bass! The 44-02 is fantastic as well, I can get pretty much any sound I want out of it! I was hoping to see a few more at the show, but never mind!
2. Haha sounds great! What date are you thinking of at the moment? I'd love to go, but I run a recording/rehearsal space, and also do a live events management/sound engineering apprenticeship with a charity, so free evenings and weekends are tight! Cheers, L
3. I know this sounds like a silly question, but what is a 'bass bash'? I missed it last year so I'm not up to speed. Is it a bit like a regional variation of last weeks bass show (minus the slap fest)? Cheers, Lorry
4. I must admit, I would've sent a circular email round if I was in that position...
5.
surely anyone who had a "great time" is a slapper
Wrong, very wrong! I'm a classic rock and blues bassist - I don't know the first thing about slap bass, and i have little interest in it!
6. Hi All, Nick Wells borrowed a bass from me a week or so ago (he's a big fan of my Miller!). He more or less said what Maxcat posted above - they're working on some big changes, and there's lots of brilliant ideas brewing. I think it's just a case of being patient until issue 3 is released, which hopefully will be soon. Nick is a great bloke, and I have a lot of faith in him - I'm sure everything will be fine, but I can understand why everyone is annoyed! That's my opinion anyway, Cheers, Lorry
7. Okay thanks for the suggestion. However, it does it with my Jazz, Precision and Lakland, so I'm assuming it's something 'electronically' wrong. I'm going to get my friend whose an electronics engineer to take a look at it. Luckily, I've realized it isnt as noticable when i use the classic/valve channel, so I can still get away with playing it, without getting annoyed! Cheers, L
8. Hi All, I have a Marshall MB450H running through an MBC115 - I've had a lot of problems with the MB series, but i wont go into that now. After having my cabinet fixed the week after I bought it, everything has been running fine. But recently I've noticed that my tweeter is starting to crackle when I play anything in the higher register, or if I 'attack' the bass harder than normal. I'm pretty sure its the tweeter, as when you turn it off at the back, the problem stops. I've opened the amp up, and checked the board and the (rather inadequate) connecting cables - all seems fine. I haven't got the Eq on the amp or bass (Lakland 44-02) set to any extremes. I;ve also noticed that the amp seems to generally be lacking in top end recently. Does this sound like I might need to fit a new tweeter? Has anyone got any ideas as to how I might solve the problem? Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated! Many thanks, Lorry
9. I went on the Saturday and had a fantastic time! I went last year so I knew what to expect, and took ear plugs with me" My dad and I had a nice chat with Sheldon Dingwall - I've never tried a Novax fretted bass before, but it was amazing! My girlfriend had a chat/picture with TM Stevens, who we have met before. I picked up loads of stickers and freebies, which always makes my day During the day, we chatted with lots of other people - I found the overall atmosphere was great, and everyone was really friendly I tried out lots of different basses, and although it was still noisy, i could just about hear what was going on! Overall, I had a great time and can't wait until next years show!
10. Nice to know there's some other people out there using Marshall gear - I don't see many bassists these days! I had a lot of problems at first, and Marshall let me down, but now i'm pretty settled. Need to get back into a band though (I run a recording studio and work for an arts development charity). I'd like one of the 4x10s to go with my 1x15, but I'm also considering going back to using Ashdown at some point! Cheers, L
11.
She's a beauty, RcknRoadie! And well, if it starts with a B (The S/N), its a 85-86. I didn't know these were made before the 90's! I always thought they started making these at the end of the 90's. Mine's a 94-95.
Thanks, Vanderveen! I think the dating system is different - It can't be that old. I think mine is probably more early 90s than late 80s! Can anyone here shed any light on this? Cheers, Lorry
12.
My pride and joy :-)
Is that two of the newer MBC410 cabs, or the older style DBS cabs like the head? i have the MBC450H with the matching 1x15 - I would be very interested to know what the 410 is like
13.
Mine at the moment, thinking of buying a power amp so I can use them all at the same time.
Whats the Marshall 8x10 like? I have the 1x15. Its okay, cheap and cheerful
14. Wehey!! Some love for the MM Jazz at last! I have one - It's a B serial number, does anyone know what year this is? I've been told its an older one and that's about it! Meet Roxxanne (aka 'my first car') - she's been my main gigging bass for the last three or four years. Bought her for my 16th birthday - secondhand but virtually unplayed by a collector. Absolute bargain!
15. This is Ruby, my 1989 Squier Stratocaster (with an S9 serial number). She came into my possession through a friend. At some point, a previous owner installed a rotary switching system, which also adds series/parallel wiring, as well as neck and bridge together. Fantastic little guitar - Plays better than any American Standard I have tried. I would be absolutely lost without this guitar :') Rosie is a 2003 Fender TC90. Unusual bit of kit - made in Indonesia, set neck, strange neck shape and SD P90s. Plays nicely and has a fantastic sound! This guitar was also bought from the same friend Ruby came from. It wasn't intentional, just pure coincidence! At the moment I have really bad GAS for the new Gretsch Electromatic Double Jet in Gold! Just for the record, I'm a bassist who plays guitar as a Hobby. Bass always comes first!
16. They look fantastic - I'd love one if I have the money. Even the Rumble series make my bass sound tonally 'better' than most £1000+ amps I have tried.
17. This is Roxxanne, my Marcus Miller Jazz IV. Bought her as my 16th Birthday present - was a second hand bargain from a collector. He had about 4 guitars and this bass, but he didn't play, they just hung on the wall looking pretty. Decided to move and I picked it up for a bargain price! Had her nearly 4 years now. Great sounding bass, plays really well. Main gigging bass ever since! It's a B serial number - I couldn't find anything about these, so if anyone has any idea of the year, I would love to know. Cheers, Lorry
18.
Wooden pg! Never seen that on a P before.
I quite like it, it's different
19. I'll never touch a 4210 - I had THREE go dead on me in a fortnight - I wrote to Marshall and they didn't care at all. i felt really sorry for the dealer because it wasn't there fault and they kept apologising. Marshall ruined my Christmas that year =[
20. Mine is strung with Rotosound 66s, I'm tempted to try flats though as I'm a big Cliff Williams fan and I'm wondering what the tonal differences are!
21. I posted my Precision near the beginning of the thread, but a quick repost while talking about bridges... My precision started as a bog standard MIM Jazz (its a 2003 version). Needed a lot of TLC when i first bought it, but eventually I upgraded it with SPB's and a Gotoh 201 bridge. I like the 201 - I haven't noticed any tonal difference with it, but it just feels more 'solid' and stable that the BBOT, which was fairly worn out (the G-saddle bent off to the right). My Marcus Miller Jazz has a Baddass 2 bridge - I've never needed to tinker with it much but like someone else has just said, you don't seem to get much for your money. The 201 was diffinately better for the £40 I paid for it! That's my oppinion anyway L
22. I think the Tele looks great. Providing they sound and feel okay, I wouldn't mind investing in one if I had the cash... Not as keen on the Jag, but I like the 70s vibe. I would like to see another bass with perloid block inlays and white binding like my MM Jazz.
23. Superglue wasnt any good, trust me. I even put industrial carpet glue on it, and that didn't work!
24. I feel your pain! I'm still having problems with mine aswell. It looked great in the shop, but as soon as I put pedals on it, the carpet ripped straight up! Staples and carpet glue seem to be doing the trick, but its not idea. I might cut a piece of wood to the same size as the bottom of the case, then cover that in carpet and screw it to the base of the case. Here's some new shots of my board taken a few minutes ago. The Phase 90 is a new addition, and I've cleaned all the connectors between pedals. Next up, I need to make an In/Out box with a bypass switch.
