1. My first 'Proper' gig rig, was an Ashdown Electric Blue 180W 1x12 combo, with my Marcus Miller Jazz IV, and a Yamaha RBX270J borrowed from a friend, until i bought my MiM Precision! Nothing special, but it went over an EL34 loaded JCM900 stack, a Master Lead 50 halfstack, and a loud drummer no problem at all! Wish i had never sold it...
2. My Favourite signature models have to be the Duff McKagan and the Marcus Miller IV. The Mike Dirnt my friend owns is also pretty cool! Lakland DJ4 is also high up on my GAS-list. But... am i the only person here that HATES the Mark Hoppus? All i can say is - thank god i went to try one out, and didnt just buy one off of the internet blind. I would have sent it back instantly!
3. Okay guys - Count me in! Unfortunately i cant pay in advance, but do you know what the price will be on the door? If i have room, I'll probably take my Marshall MB450H/MBC115, the Lakkie, the 2 Fenders, and maybe the pedalboard! I've had a chat with Nick and he's very interested! Cheers L
4. I bought a pedal off of him a few years ago, and got to know him. His office is very close to my house, so that comes in handy sometimes! And yeah, hes such a fantastic guy - his enthusiasm for bass really is infectious!
5. Fantastic - sounds good to me! I just hope im free on that sunday, Unfortunately i work most sundays, and band practice when i'm not, so i will have to talk to the guys. I have a few friends locally that might be interested in going aswell. EDIT: I've just mentioned it to Nick Wells of BGM, he's over this way. Cheers L
6. So what happens with these bass days? Do people bring gear along and everyone tries each others stuff out? I live in Ely, so its not far, but i have a feeling my band practice is on that date. Cheers Lorry
7. Behringer pedals are good for trying out effects when first starting a collection, but i wouldn't recommend them in the long run. I had 5 or 6 that i used with guitar and bass, but i'm down to just a couple now. For chorus, i use an EHX Clone Theory, and its great! Although some people complain about the noise, it's not that bad. Maybe you should look at the EHX Nano Clone/Small Clone? Cheers L
8. Nice to meet you - Its great to meet another bass player from cambridgeshire - Doesnt seem to be many of us on here! Lorry
9. Looks fantastic! Much, MUCH better than the new RW sig! Its time like this that i wish my Precision had a maple neck/FB.
10. I own both a Precision and a Jazz, and i feel i get on equally well with both basses. I learnt on a P-bass copy, so thats where I'm most at home. During my band's set, i start off on the MM Jazz, then go to the Precision for the second set, and don't notice much. However - when i then go back to the Jazz for the third set, the neck feels wierd! I find the neck on my Lakland 44-02 seems to be a good half-way point between both necks
11. Glad you're happy with the pre-amp, I'm currently toying with the idea of upgrading the preamp in my Marcus Miller Jazz. By the way, that bass looks fantastic! Im sure it sounds amazing too!
12. Another update - I never really did get rid of the Precision - so everything has worked out well! The Epiphone and the Washburn both went to really good homes, and i've made enough to be able to pay for the Lakland withotu selling the precision, so thats what i have done! For christmas my parents have bought me a Gotoh 201, and a set of Seymour-Duncan SPB-3's for the P-bass, so i'll still have a three bass attack force! More updates after all teh work gets done! Happy christmas one and all!!!
13.
I was having a look at the Laklands in Guitar Guitar today and they really are quite expensive for what they are! I mean, they look nice enough but there was one there (not even that attractive either) that was £1199 or something outrageous like that! Cor blimey!
This is indeed true, but if you were to compare a Lakland to a similarly priced Fender, apparently the Lakland has a much better build quality! ...or so i'm told anyway... The secondhand prices are quite low, which is also very attractive!
14. Nice to know that there is quite a big Lakland following here! Maybe one day I'll get another to join my 44-02
15. At this rate, I can definately see myself turning back to Ashdown!
16. Would this be a direct drop-in fit for a standard MiM Precision (2003 model)?
17. Hi Mike, Thanks for getting in touch. I've had a look on your facebook, and you have some fantastic songs, however, Its not really the sort of thing I'd like to be playing - I'm more into covers than originals, and ive never played any sort of Prog before, so i'm probably not your guy. I did notice that you use the Blue Barn, which is fantastic, i've done quite abit of work there with Chris, past and present. Your best bet is to put an ad up on www.joinmyband.co.uk in the cambs section, as there are normally a few bass players putting adds up. Im sure you will find the right person there. Thanks again for the offer, and i wish you all the best! Cheers Lorry
Hey Lorry, We're experienced musicians but have only been playing & gigging as Derecho for a year, and we have big plans and ambitions. We're looking for a replacement bass player as ours is returning to the US in Feb. We're based in and around Ely/Newmarket and after having gigged a lot at the end of this year we're building a gig & recording schedule for 2011. To quote the blurb: "Derecho is an experienced 4-piece alternative rock band playing original music with an edge. Sinister and emotional lyrics are delivered through powerful female vocals and reinforced by driving guitar, bass and drums, with additional subtleties from keyboards. The combination provides observations on the realities of life that are both quirky and searing. Our influences range from 60s rock through the punk era to modern day progressive music." You can hear our stuff at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Derec...ck/413737410581 and/or www.derechorock.com although we've changed drummers since the recordings were made. Let me know if you'd like to talk further. Mike.
18. I bought this 44-02 from a friend, about a month ago. Haven't had chance to gig with it yet (My band has spent 4 months trying to replace our singer =[ ), but it sounds fantastic at the local jam nights i help run! Deffinately a lakland convert here! Nice basses everyone, keep them comming! Shiny frets
19. Hi everyone, I'm Lorry, I'm 18 and live just outside of cambs. I've been playing in Rock covers bands since i was 15. Currently my band is having alot of trouble finding a replacement vocalist, so i'm looking to test the water and see what is out there. Ideally i want to stick with them, as the quality of musicianship is very high, but this is the second time we have lost a vocalist, and i'm starting to get fed up of sitting around. I've spent 2 years playing in a Classic Rock covers band called Trick of the Light, we played alot of gigs around the country and had a great time! We decided to rebrand after losing our lead guitarist, and our vocalist, the latter of which we still havent replaced after 4 months of auditioning! I'm just looking to test the water and see what else is out there. Ideally i would like a band that is gigging as much as possible. As well as a bassist, I'm trained as a sound engineer (both live and studio) and carry out tech work/repairs on guitars, amps, pedals, PA etc as a hobby - which would be a big benefit to interested bands! I also play abit of guitar, and have a gig-ready guitar rig. I am currently Technical Adviser on the committee for Fenland Jam, who promote music to young people across cambridgeshire but holding workshops and jam session. Age is not an issue for me, i have worked with people from the ages of 16 to over 50, but preferably you would be over 18 otherwise gigging would be an issue! My equipment list (for bass) is in my signature. Although not currently driving, my test is Jan 2011, and transport is not an issue - but would prefer to not stray too far from Ely. I'm interested in most types of Rock, Blues and also pop-punk. I'm really not into metal, anything screamy, and definately not into the cambridge indie scene. My influences are bands like: ACDC Thin Lizzy Led Zeppelin Guns n' Roses/Velvet Revolver Whitesnake Airbourne Aerosmith Green Day Blink-182 The Jam Bon Jovi Gary Moore Joe Bonamassa I'm up for giving most things a go. If you would like a chat, please dont hesitate to send me a PM, and we can arrange an audition or something. Many thanks for reading this, Lorry - 'The Rockin' Roadie'

21. I have an MM Jazz IV and i don't have a problem with the stock pre-amp. I might upgrade it one day, but theres nothing wrong with it. I would like a cut option though...
22. I play alot of Duff's basslines, and i get on well with my EHX Clone Theory, although i know alot of people arent keen on them because of the noise. In a live situation, the background his isnt noticable, so it doesnt bother me at all...
23. This is a repost from 10 or so pages ago - I've just started turning my mind to waht i could do to the board to finish it off. Ideally i would like to find room to put on a home-made patch bay, with a bypass. I could also do with a bypass for the Weeping Demon, as that sucks alot of top-end out. The cables will also need upgrading. They are all Proel cables that came in 10 a pack. I will eventually buy some angled jacks, so i can make better leads using some decent Proel cable i was given by a friend! A DI would be handy for if my amp dies!
24. Fantastic collection - thankyou for sharing! Im VERY jealous of all those Precisions!
25.
It's a 1x15 with a tweeter. I wanted a 2x10 but the used market is small where I live and this cabinet was available for a reasonable price.
Ahh fair enough Im using the 1x15 Marshall cabinet, it does the job but it isnt great. Was hoping to upgrade it but ended up buying a Lakland! I had been looking at having a 1x15 and 2x10 but apparently the two shouldnt be used together?
