1.
Er, do you think they can hear me now?
I always get annoyed when i see people with MB4210's I had THREE blow up on me in the space of a fortnight, and Marshall couldn't give a s**t. Luckily, the shop were very helpful. The 4210/115 rig is what i was originally aiming for. Nice rig though
2. Hi everyone, I'm Lorry, I'm 19 and live just outside of cambs. I've been playing in Rock covers bands since i was 15. I've been very unsettled since leaving a band last July - The band reformed after spending 9 months finding new members, but things are moving very slowly and we haven't gotten back on the road yet. I'd like to stick with them, but I'm extremely bored! Meanwhile, I have been doing some session slots with a couple of bands in the Peterborough/Cambs area, just to keep me busy. Really i'm just looking to test the water and see what else is out there. Ideally i would like a band that is gigging as much as possible! Normally, I play covers, but I dont mind playing originals if the band is right. As well as a bassist, I work as an engineer/techie/projects co-ordinator and carry out tech work/repairs on guitars, amps, pedals, PA etc as a hobby - which would be a big benefit to interested bands! I also play abit of guitar, and have a gig-ready guitar rig. I am currently Technical Adviser on the committee for Fenland Jam, who promote music to young people across cambridgeshire but holding workshops and jam session. Age is not an issue for me, i have worked with people from the ages of 16 to over 50, but preferably you would be over 18 otherwise gigging would be an issue! My equipment list (for bass) is in my signature. I currently have my own transport, but don't really want to travel for more than 30mins for rehearsals. I'm interested in most types of Rock, Blues and also pop & punk. I'm really not into metal, anything screamy, and definately not into the cambridge indie scene. My influences are bands like: ACDC Thin Lizzy Led Zeppelin Guns n' Roses/Velvet Revolver Whitesnake Airbourne Aerosmith Green Day Blink-182 The Ramones The Jam Bon Jovi Gary Moore Joe Bonamassa I'm up for giving most things a go. If you would like a chat, please dont hesitate to send me a PM, and we can talk more. Many thanks for reading this, Lorry - 'The Rockin' Roadie'
3. Bump for a mutual friend. I think i scared Nick yesterday when i drove past him at a junction!
4. Ouch this one will hurt... First Bass Owned: Cruiser by Crafter P-bass copy 'Go To' Bass: Lakland 44-02 'Your' Bass: Fender Precision
5. Bump for a gorgeous bass!
6.
Nice basses... nice bears too!
They belong to my mum, nearly all of those shots are taken in our spare room
7. I dont think the Taurus is traditional shaped at all... When you look at it in the room next to a Jazz or Precision, it looks totally radical - The bass side horn is huge!
8.
Been meaning to post this for a while. Signal chain is: Line 6 wireless > Custom Loop and Tuner Mute > (Loop out) > Custom Bass Boost > MXR Octave > Bass Big Muff > Small Stone > (Loop in) > SFX Thumpinator > Amp The other stuff on there is a mic splitter (under the thumpinator), in-ears transmitter, 18v power converter for the in-ears, Diago power supply (under the converter). I'm also yet to put a mini mic pre-amp on there, which will squeeze on top of the in-ears next to the wireless. I wanted all this extra stuff actually on the board rather than elsewhere at the back of the stage, makes things much simpler!!! The MXR Octave is the only one of the four effects that isn't being upgraded at some point, although I plan on putting it in a blended loop (don't know where that will go though!!) similar but simpler to the x&m as Octaving the low D string (I'm 99% of the time in drop D) is unnecessary and the tracking struggles a bit lower than the A. The Bass Boost is great but I shall tweak it until I die probably. The Muff is being replaced by a home-made Green Russian clone with a clean blend. The Small Stone, as much as I love it, will ultimately be replaced by a home-made Phase 100 with umpteen mods on it. That's all pipeline stuff though, and my wife recently giving birth has hampered my bid for total home-made glory. Haha! Tuner is out of line obviously as I found it sapped like a mofo! Was going to get the pitch black but simply added a tuner output on the loop pedal so the tuner is completely separate. Thumpinator. If you don't have one, buy one. First thing I would replace if this lot got stolen.
Nice board, and great explanation
9. I've just gone from this: To this: I decided to take the Wah off of the board. Its a good pedal, but i use it once in the set, and even then its only for the sake of it. Plus it sucks quite a lot of high end. I'll probably keep it for abit before selling it though. The Bass Driver has been replaced by the Muff, which gives a much better sound for what I am after, but the digitech is still a good all rounder for a newer pedal geek/bassist. The cables are by Planet Waves, and are a marked improvement over the cheapy Proel leads, best buy so far this year i think! The twin footswitch for my amp goes in the space under the Clone Theory - I havent got round to velcro'ing it yet. Cant wait to try the board at practice, sounds great at home!
10. New pics as promised! Im going from the pedalboard above, to this! The only thing thats missing from the picture is the twin footswitch for the amp, which goes in the space under the Clone Theory. The Muff Fuzz is fantastic! Definately an improvement over the Digitech, will is still a good all round pedal IMO.
11. I cant really give a valid oppinion, as i only had it for three weeks. It was a great bass. It felt nice to play, it was simple and effective. The neck pickup was incredibly warm, and the bridge pickup was rounded and defined. I have recommended this bass to people since. The guy who bought it from me seemed fairly chuffed with it, he played it live on the radio a week later! But as you will know - Go try one yourself, its the only way to know!
12. Updates! I've returned home from the BGM Show (Cheers Nick & Co!) with an EHX Bass Muff and some Planet Waves patch cables! The Digitech is definately going, and I think the Wah will follow - Its a nice toy, but i dont use it and it has a huge footprint. I might shuffle my board round to accomodate my footswitch. A fantastic day was had by all, some great gear and performances (even my girlfriend enjoyed herself!).
13. Hey All, Just wanted to say a big thankyou to Nick and everyone that was involved for a fantastic day! Cant wait for next year! Cheers L
14. I have very mixed views on these, as an MB owner, and I also recieved bad customer service from Marshall. Ive had an MB30 combo for years, its great and i love it to bits! However, i ended up with THREE broken MB4210s in the space of a fortnight, and Marshall didnt care at all. I then had to upgrade to the MB450H and MBC115, and the crossover in the cab blew after a week. They never returned my calls, and I got a short email reply once. The amps themselves aren't up to scratch, and are nowhere near as they could be. Overall, they arent bad, but you get what you pay for, the built quality isnt great. Clean channel is abit sterile, but i love the classic channel. I feel Marshall have really let me down. I think im gonna go back to Ashdown...
15. I think both of those basses look great! Nice to see some love for Squiers aswell
16. Im also hoping someone here can shed some light on this cab. Im thinking about using it with my Marshall MB450H. Lets hope Fender have a stand at the London Bass Show next month!
17. Thanks - I try and look after them the best I can. I do all my own setups, modifications and repairs, etc, which I also find really rewarding
18. Hi everyone, I'm trying to set up my Fender Marcus Miller Jazz IV, but I cant find the right size key to fit the bridge - does anyone know what size I need? Me and my dad have searched our whole machine shop and cant find one small enough - its really annoying!! Cheers, L
19. I've noticed alot of users on here have a thread where they post their gear pics, so I thought maybe its time I had one too! Alot of change happened at the end of last year, so I'll start from there! Started off with these... -Fender Marcus Miller Jazz IV "Roxxanne" - Had this since 2007/8 -Washburn Taurus T-24 "Ryta" - Given to me by fellow basschatter Fatboytoo/Richard - who has since passed away ='[ -2003 MiM Precision "Rex" -Epiphone EB-3 "Red" - my first 'proper' bass, back in 2005 (I think) Then also borrowed a Lakland 44-02 and a Warwick corvette from Richard. It was clear to me that the 44-02 would not be going home, so I sold off the Washburn and the Epiphone! Leaving me with... But then Christmas came around, so I finally got round to upgrading the Precision! So far I have had alot of good feedback about the Precision in the Precision & Black Basses threads - cheers everyone! Yesterday was the first decent sunny day, so I decided to take some more group shots... Amp wise, I started off with an Ashdown Electric Blue 12-180, which served me well for a couple of years! Then moved on to a Marshall MB450H with the matching MBC115 cab. Its not the most amazing amp in the world, but it works for me. Amp will probably be the next upgrade, now I'm happy with my basses! Pedalboard is straight forward. Korg Pitchblack, Boss OC-2, Weeping Demon, Digitech Bass Driver, Boss GEB-7 and an EHX Clone Theory. I did have an AKG wireless unit, but when I started to use the Lakland regularly, I noticed it sucked ALOT of tone! They are housed in a Kinsman pedalboard, and powered by a wall wart with a 1 spot daisy chain. Need to upgrade the cabling - but currently using an Elixir lead instead of the wireless! It might not be the most amazing collection in the world - but they're mine, and I try to look after them as best as I can. Any comments or suggestions, feel free! More updates will of course follow, thanks for reading, Lorry
20. Looks fantastic! I love the Red + Black with matching headstock, looks awesome! Nice one OBBM
21. Mine took a few weeks - Dont worry, they'll turn up!
22. About 3 years ago I played in a 'young originals band', playing a sort of punk/indie mix with a ska edge? It wasnt really my thing at all, but I learnt alot from it, and had a good laugh. Since then, I havent played in any originals bands at all, it put me off for life! At least playing covers I cover my petrol costs! In the past I've done the odd bit of session work, most of it not being my first choice of genre, but it has opened up my eyes to how the bass player 'fits' with other genres of music. I've picked up techniques and fills from songs I wouldnt have known existed otherwise. I suppose at the end of the day, you're always on a constant learning curve!
23.
Right, my own efforts - the photography is a little dull, as muggins here didn't think to charge the camera previously; economising on the flash is never the best idea. Jackson Kelly KBX: Lakland Darryl Jones: Charvel 575 from 1986: BC Rich Platinum ST:
What a fantastic collection you have there! I'd be more than happy to own any one of those! Borrowed a Lakland DJ4 for ages and loved it, but the Charvel catches my eye the most - Fantastic!
