1. I use a CTM100 with a three piece band (hard hitting drummer) and don't have any problems. PA just helps to balance things overall - i don't rely on it for volume!
2.
Hey Kevin, Yes it seems as though a sleeved version was sent instead of the standard rack one doh. This is easily rectified though as once out of the sleeve its the same head it just needs a lid and rack ears which we do as a kit. I can get a kit sent to you asap and its a very simple 10 min job to convert it then you should be sorted. As an apology for the hassle I would like to send you an Ashdown T shirt and a free Dr Green or Ashdown FX pedal of your choice... Let me know if this is ok and apologies once again, gremlins in the warehouse!
This is exactly why i use your products - that's very noble of you, sir!
3.
My 13yo ABM 300 has just popped it's valve stage, but still sounds awesome and ashdown are happy to fix it for me. If you think about how often cars are repaired, I'd say 13years without trouble makes them pretty reliable.
Because they all have different flavours and are all awesome! The MAG combo is for rehearsals and 'quick setup' gigs, the CTM100 is the main head, with the ABM300 as back-up. I swap the MAG and ABM chassis out of the head and combo depending on what mood im in I'm sorry to hear that stingrayPete1977, I've always had great customer service from them and find them very helpful (mMrshall on the other hand, i can't slag off enough after the trouble i had with the MB range). I run my heads though a Genz cab, who's amps I'm also keen on.

5. I have three Ashdown heads because they're awesome and reliable. I'm glad to see more and more artists are signing onto their roots.
6. Ohh wow. Looks like I'll be getting a bank loan...
7. Update! Having great fun gigging with my CTM100 head. Truely fantastic amp for what I do! Also, I've just bought my friend's G&L Tribute L2000 in the fantastic blue sunburst finish. Unfortunately this means saying goodbye to my old, Rex the Precision. Pics up when I'm back from holiday!
8. Haha wow - I love GWR stock (although im more a roads than rail person). I've still got lots of Mamod and Wilesco engines in the loft somewhere - they didn't get that much use as i was lucky enough to be playing with full size engines. My dad's just started making a half size Burrell Gold Medal Tractor that Little Samson Models produce the drawings/casting for (shameless pump for Edward). I've worked on all sorts from Ransome's Traction Engines, Burrell Road Loco's (we used to co-own Duke of Kent) and most importantly... 9. Im gonna go with Merton's rig... Or maybe mine when i get a new cabinet later in the year mwahahaha XD
10. I'm agreed. It's just fantastic. I've got a full rehearsal the next two Friday and I big gig Saturday night. Also going to be trying out a yamaha promix 01 and a pair of bose 802s we bought so lots of new toys!
11. Awesome rig, Cheers! Looks like I have some more saving to do: d'oh
12. Just out of curiosity are there any steam engine enthusiasts on here, or just me? I've not been lucky enough to play at GDSF yet but regularly attend as an exhibitor
13. It's more to do with the size of the room and my loud drummer! We aren't that loud. Yeah it says on the website the Di comes off the transformer, so I'm hoping it'll sound nearly as good as mining the cab. Merton, what cabinet do you use with yours? Cheers L
14. My Skyline 44-02 after a recent set-up:
15. Just to let you all know the set-up went really well last weekend, and the bass plays fantastic! The wire wool methods works fantasically, but it does leave a lot of mess. i don't mind though! Couple of camera phone pics: Cheers everyone!
16. It's true - and it just moves the air in a different way. When i stand in front of the cabinet with the 100, it's like being punch in the leg every time you hit a note. You juts dont get that with the same cabinet and the 300W heads. It was just about loud enough for a full blown rehearsal, but I want to see how my PA handles it, and check the DI sound. Should be fun!
17. Hi All, Happy New Amp day to me (well, technically Wednesday)! I took a trip up to Birmingham on Wednesday to pick up a shiny Ashdown CTM-100 all valve head. I thought i would make a thread as i know theyre rare beats on here. I must say I'm really impressed with it so far. I was a bit worried that the 100W power stage wouldn't be loud enough for my three piece band, but coupled with my Genz-Benz 2x10 cab, it doesn't have any problems at. The sheer force it uses to push the air doesn't even compare to my ABM & MAG heads (300W each), even though it isn't as loud. I love the valve growl from both the preamp and the power stage, which pushes nicely. I little more clean headroom on the output stage would be nice, but I'm not picky as it sounds awesome. As Mark Gooday says in the CTM300 video, it doesn't do radical EQ changes, but if you're like me and want a vintage valve amp tone, then there's more than enough flexibility to cut through the mix at gigs. The 'Deep' switch gives a really thuddy low end tone, but scoops the mids just that little bit much to cut through live. The 'Bright' switch makes the top end really bright, and is very 'zangy'. Mellow seems to pop a lot of mids (and therefore drive) back in when on the Deep switch is also pushed in, but i don't notice it so much without - maybe I'll notice the difference playing live. So far I've only used it with my Lakland 44-02, with the pre-amp set flat, so still have the Jazz and Washburn to try. i'm looking forward to plugging in my Precision most! I'm really looking forward to my next gig on May 10th, to see what it sounds like through the PA. 18. I picked up a CTM 100 yesterday, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the volume it does produce when hooked up to my Genz 2x10 cab. I had a short rehearsal with my 60s trio and found there was enough power on tap. As long as I kept most of the mids in (which I do anyway) it sits in our mix very nicely! I think you'll probably be fine with two guitarists, especially if you have Pa support too..

20. So finally took the plunge today and bought an Ashdown CTM-100 head from the top ten at Pmt Birmingham. My prehistoric ABM300 popped it's valve stage at a gig a few weeks ago (sobsob), so I thought I'd fulfill my dream and get a valve amp. Had a quick rehearsal with the band today, and I must say that I'm incredibly impressed, as far as first impressions go. I'll get some pics and some sort of review up soon!
21. Awesome, thanks for the recommendation
22. Brilliant, thanks for the tips. I'll report back when I've done the set up! Cheers L
23. After a bit of research, I think I'm going to try the 0000 grade wire wool method after masking the fretboard. Hopefully that will be safe!
24. Hi all, I haven't had my Skyline 44-02 out much until recently, and it could do with a fresh set of strings and a set up really. I do all this sort of thing myself and for others, but I'm a little bit concerned about cleaning the frets, as the maple neck seems fairly unfinished to me. Normally I would mask the neck and use careful amounts of brasso, then clean the fretboard afterwards, but I don't want to make everything turn into a big horrible dark smudge. Has anyone got any tips or advise? All help much appreciated! Thanks in Advance, Lorry
