1. Thanks everyone! It's Ash but I don't think it's swamp ash in particular, my Jazz is though and I love it, but it is heavy. Bass is about average weight - lighter than my jazz but heavier than my Lakland. The more I look at the grain the more I like it. Did some posing with the Jazz later so might upload a pic or two...
2. Just bought a Fender Sandblasted P, so thy solves P bass GAS... Also would like: Better cabinet, preferably an Ashdown classic to match my head Decent chorus pedal Dingwall Super PJ Ashdown ABM IV Too much other stuff to list
3. Just picked up this... Pretty sure it's the one on the Fender website, serial number matches the stock image of that on GuitarGuitar! Really really enjoying playing it, looking forward to my next gig!
4. Ahh so that's why my bad doesn't look like the one on their website, very nice indeed! Snap really - first bass I have ever bought blind, and especially at that price point. Used it through a few of my Ashdowns now and it's sounding bl**dy good. All my lock bass geeks like it too which is always a bonus. I think my friend has his eyes on the blue one... (He has a MusicMan Stingray Classic and Sandberg Basic 4).
Hey Lorry, I plumped for a sandblasted crimson P-bass a few weeks back, also from GAK. It was the first time I've bought a bass this expensive without trying it first but I have no complaints. It's the first US Fender bass I've owned and I'm massively impressed. Very resonant, pleasingly light weight but not to the point of feeling insubstantial. Sounds great. Here's some pics of mine (disclaimer: the colour is not quite as garish as it appears in these pics, at least not to my eyes, although I think some people will find them garish either way )
5. Cheers everyone!! I read some reviews on talkbass and they made it sound like it had trenches in it. They're deep and it's definitely not flat when you run your hands across it. It's very very cool! I have also found out that my basses serial number matches the one that's pictured on guitar guitar, which is taken from the fender website. Really chuffed as this means my exact bass is the same one pictures on the website!
6. It's here!! First impressions are great - the finish is lovely and the bass plays really well. Haven't had a chance to plug it in yet but hopefully later on. I'm not very well today but this is just what I need to cheer me up. I'll get a shot of the back later too as it's stunning!
7. I sold a 2003 MIM Precision which I had found in a right mess. He was black with a rosewood neck. I installed a Gotoh 201, SD SPB-3s and a black pick guard. I sold him middle of last year to fund a G&L tribute L2000 from my friend which H&S since plummeted in value. I like the G&L but I do miss my Precision. This has now swayed me to buy the Sandblasted Precision Fender have just released, so I look forward to personalising it a bit and making it one of my own I'm enjoying seeing that some of you are finding your lost loves, maybe mine will turn up one day!
8. I'm surprised to see so little about them on here actually as they made quite big news at NAMM and Guit*rist have just reviewed the Str*t and T*le models. There's only 12 of each model/colour coming to the UK so very excited!
9. Hi all, After a few days of changing my mind and not sleeping, I've ordered the Sandblasted Precision Bass on Crimson from GAK. Very excited to have another PBass in my collection. I was just wondering if anyone else has played or ordered one? I've done a naughty and bought it blind, but could resist owning a limited edition, and the aesthetics are awesome! Delivery is due on Friday so will get pics uploaded soon! Cheers, Lorry!
10. Guy has always been really quick to reply in the past when I have had questions. Maybe there's still a bit of a backlog from when they relocated to a new premises recently. I really like the CTM-15 and are looking into them as an alternative to my CTM100 for smaller gigs. I agree some clarification may be needed about the nature of the valves, but they sound great and that's the main thing. Hopefully Guy will get back to you soon!
11. Had a trip down to GAK yesterday and couldn't resist a Pedaltrain mini at a bargain price. Really basic board, just wanted to have a tuner, pre-amp to use in case the CTM100 fails, and a slot that I can swap pedals between. I can imagine I'll normally use a chorus or some sort of modulation there
12.
from playing amps with valve pre's for along time this little thing really does blow them away, sounds aleast to me very full and breaks up lovely, yes some noise comes when you crank the gain but this happens on alot of amps. played thru my full pedalboard today, which includes alot of fuzz, dirt and also a overdive/boost handles them all very well, yes ive had to change settings on a few but thats to be expected with a new amp. as you can see from my sig im selling a few bits to grab the 100w
Great rig, I really want one of those cabinets! You know you want the 100
13. Wow I completely missed this thread picking up again! I've never been so happy with an amp in my life. It always sounds fantastic and although it's only 100w, as Merton said you get the back end working lovely which adds to the fun. I find it plenty loud enough especially with PA support, through just a 2x10. I've also been impressed with it paired to a single 15, so I imagine it'll be absolutely fine with an 8x10. I haven't tried it with pedals at all yet, BUT, I think I'm going to treat myself to a PT Mini for Christmas. Not many effects you can use in a 60s pop band!
14.
I'm really sorry, hadn't noticed that, I wouldn't have posted this otherwise.
Haha no it's not you, it's Thomann
15. That's why I put mine up for sale. It's honestly a cracking bass but doesn't have a soul that shines through as it's own, like my other three do
16. It's a cracking deal but I'm also quite annoyed as I have mine up for sale at the moment at £350 (paid 575 new 18 months) and have had to take it down. Looks like I'll be keeping it for a while. Amazing bass though!
17. I would also be very interested to know what tubes you used. Good point Merton!
18. I would definitely take all these points into concideration - the mags have a great set of mid controls which still make the bass sound natural when pushed and again, there's always ashdown cabs for sale to give you the extra sound dispersion
19. Hi there, Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure it's a boost pedal that you're after. I have experience with both 180, 200 and 300 watt MAGs and I would say what you probably need is actually a more powerful amp. My 300w MAG and ABM cut through with my old rock band really we'll, but I struggled with the 200w mag combo. You can pick up the 300w versions in the amps for sale section on here and also places like gumtree really cheap. I also converted a MAG combo into an ABM combo by swapping the amp sleeves over, so there's some food for thought. I don't know much regarding boost pedals, but you'll need to put it in your effects loop for maximum affect, but will risk popping a speaker if you drive your amp too hard! Best wishes, Lorry
20. Actually I'm afraid I'm gonna have to pass because of the distance, sorry to mess you about. Cheers L
21. Hi Neil. Is this still available? Possibly interested but could you tell me the measurements of the top please so I can check my head fits? Cheers Lorry
22. I really wanted an LB30 but ended up with a CTM 100. Best decision ever. I can't imagine the LB30 being loud enough for the average gig without a really good monitoring setup and a sensible sized Pa.
23. All I can say is buying a CTM 100 is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I turned up for a gig at a beer festival on Saturday and some guy shouted 'holy s*** he has a CTM' so their reputation is preceeding them
